Spent my day at my old stomping grounds Ryerson University which is where I spent 4 years earning my degree in Nutrition many many years ago. They now have services available to the public that excites me!! NeXT labs offer the most precise and latest in exercise testing, body composition and assessment in energy expenditure. I was joined by Mary a client who too wanted to have her assessments done. Using the BodPod we had our body compositions done and in another room our resting metabolic rate. It was a great experience and can't wait to share this my clients to offer the most precise methods in determining caloric needs and body comp! Two hours of boxfit followed by an easy 30min run this morning. Fuelled by 1 tablespoon of almond butter and 3 Brazil nuts, and no hunger until about two hours after the run finished! Looking pretty knackered but jumping for joy inside 😂

BUT..I was surprised when Coach @mmarconi1 sent some side by side pics to me earlier today (pic 1). Definite visible progress still happening...even now, when it’s not expected. Not bad for this little powerlifting mama in her 50’s.  Pic 2 is a reminder of where I started 2+ years ago.  Living proof that it’s never too late to start making positive changes with your nutrition, health, and fitness.  And the best part?  I’m just getting started.✌🏻❤️💪🏻

My friend Jason here did a #Biosigniture with me today. I found #cortisol a hormone that is caused by higher levels of stress in the blood. Research has shown, Prayer, Meditation & Yoga can help to reduce stress.

According to our friends at #exos 80% of doctors visits today are linked to stress, with only three percent of these cases resolved by some of the above that has proven to help. "Cortisol is produced by your body’s adrenal glands, which are located just above your kidneys, as a safeguard against emergencies.

Cortisol is released into the body in response to stress and low blood sugar levels. When it’s first released by the adrenals, its goal is to suppress inflammation and make blood sugar levels rise, so your body is prepared to battle whatever is stressing it.

An excess of cortisol circulating in the blood is good for emergencies but very bad when it circulates for a long period.

The high blood sugar levels caused by a constant barrage of cortisol promote the storage of fat in the abdomen.

High cortisol levels also causes gluconeogenesis, which means your body breaks its protein reserves into glucose (carbohydrates) to be used as fuel or for storage. It also mobilizes the fat from its storage elsewhere in the body and moves it to the fat abdomenal reserve.

Great 1-2-1 coaching session with my client Pete.

Seeing the continuous progression from this bloke on his journey is special in itself.

In this session we focused on rack deadlifts more so as these will predominantly work strength to your hips, glutes, hamstrings and back which of course are good foundations of the body from glutes and hips and hamstrings all supporting the posture and the lower back of course.

We then furthermore moved into upright rows later in the session using a kettlebell to help sculpt tissue and develop good strength in and around the shoulders.

I know as a beginner the temptation to lift heavier weights almost becomes an obsession from session to session , especially given the ethereal, nubivagent experiences during “newbie gains” , we’ve all been there🏋️‍♀️ But when you bought into the Broad Shoulders mentality, you mentally assured yourself you’d never be deceived by the subjectivity that is omnipresent among individuals  in the “fitness” game. AND, that goes for you too👶

You see, in the conquest for Progressive overload, we may not even be doing more work, rather, the same work just in a compromised manner. Our muscles will not be forced to do more over time if our form is sloppy as the first foundation & corner stone to which everything is marked off tested against is removed🤷‍♀️ Correct form ▶️acquires better neural pathway grooves ▶️less chance of injury▶️more progression over a longer period of time ✅
We give ourselves the very worst conditions to do more over time if we are constantly injured🤦‍♀️ Don’t be your own worst enemy. Check your ego at the door📍

Back to #training with @frankenlegs this morning after a month off due to putting my back out. Since then I have been diagnosed with lumbar facet arthropathy (degenerative osteoarthritis in my L5 vertebrae). The diagnosis was a bit of a shock, but now these issues with my back make sense. Back to #training  with @frankenlegs this morning after a month off due to putting my back out. Since then I have been diagnosed with lumbar facet arthropathy (degenerative osteoarthritis in my L5 vertebrae). The diagnosis was a bit of a shock, but now these issues with my back make sense. Today I tried something new 👉🏼 a new gym. I am a person that is not good with a big change. Once I get in a stable routine I start of find my groove and am able to push myself further...so this definitely threw my workout off today...but didn’t leave before I worked up a good sweat and could feel my heart pounding 💦 •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

stair stepper - squats - deadlifts - cable squats to good mornings - hamstring curls - cable walking squats - finishers: hip thrusts - dumbbell squat pulses - glute kickbacks & my daily pull ups 💪🏼 I’m at 7 quality pull-ups #goals •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
I also used a body composition scale for the first time #eva and this was pretty dang neat. Neat to see my body compiled into these numbers, but I wish I had a set of these from before I ever started #workingonmyfitness. One day out from my first show ever back in 2013 to one day out from my most recent show a few weeks back! I’ve clearly added a substantial amount of muscle to my body which accounts for the weight gain. It should also be noted that my condition is far better which simply wouldn’t be possible without having gained muscle and taken time to build (and EAT properly) during my off season. .
Change doesn’t happen overnight and change doesn’t happen if you aren’t willing to do the work. Be prepared to gain a bit of weight off season. Be prepared to work. And be prepared to commit 100% every day year round. And FFS whatever you do, don’t obsess over your weight (But also don’t fall off during off season! 🚫)

Essa situação acontece quando você pratica musculação ou atividades físicas mais intensas alinhado a uma boa alimentação, onde você possibilita o aumento dos músculos e possivelmente a perda de gordura corporal. Entenda que, 1 kg de gordura ocupa muito mais espaço em nosso corpo do que 1 kg de músculo. Ao perder 1 kg de gordura corporal e ao mesmo tempo ganhar 1 kg de massa muscular, certamente irá acontecer uma redução da área corporal (a diferença que você vê nas roupas), mas o peso da balança não muda. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In the early phases we worked cals up keeping body fat in check, at about 9 weeks put we pulled the trigger and attacked bodyfat pretty aggressively.

The key to Adams success , he wasn't out of shape to start to get this lean, you will ALWAYS carry more body fat than you think, we pulled off about 7 kg in this last phase.

Many years ago I worked the evening shift at a hospital and it wasn’t always possible for me to get a workout in. So on my dinner break I would first go to the stairwell and climb up and down the stairs for 20 minutes and then do body weight squats when I got to the top floor. There were 6 floors in the building and by the time I was done my lower body muscles were on fire 🔥 Afterwards I would fuel up on good nutrient-dense food to replenish my muscles. FOOD/MEAL PREP

It’s a controversial topic & is utilized by a lot of people and some say you HAVE to meal prep for success but we here at ASN 100% believe you don’t need to portion out 21 of the same meals for the week in order to succeed & IMO, this regresses a lot of people and doesn’t allow them to live a normal/healthy life nor does not teach them how to enjoy food and life in succession because “it’s not on my meal plan”. BUT I do believe everyone could benefit from some sort of prep each week!  Simply planning and preparing food in advance helps us stay on track easier.

It also makes decisions in time crunches (aka. you usually won’t have to make a choice when you’re rushed/hangry) easier.

Your food/meal prep ritual each week can include:

Meal planning
Washing/chopping vegetables for portioning
Cooking/preparing protein
Cooking meals in bulk (e.g. chili)
Preparing dry ingredients for meals
Sorting “snack” foods into smaller containers (especially if you will eat the whole bag if it’s not portioned out)
Planning healthy meals that someone else cooks (e.g. using a meal delivery service, deciding in advance what to order at a restaurant, etc.) Looking ahead to ensure you have strategies/a plan in place during the next few days, especially during challenging times (e.g. a busy week, travelling, dealing with a family crisis, etc.); which can be utilized by using most of the above ideas 
These practices are not portioning out your food into those containers for the week and eating the same thing every day.

These habits simply set you up for success. 
Especially those people who live a very busy life, it allows you to have a general plan/idea set in place for the week, and options available that are quick and easy to turn too in case your life gets busier than planned.

Is all this necessary?  No, you don’t have to do any of this to be successful either.  You simply need to find a routine that works for you and your lifestyle that will keep you successful week after week; however, if you are finding yourself all over the place and not able to stay on track, maybe adopting some of these into your week will get you back on track & help you stay there!

Before I left Birmingham and joined F45 my weight was hovering at 85kg, body fat at 12%. I was fit enough but felt sluggish in the mornings and tired very early in the evenings. After 4 months of training F45 more or less every day Monday-Friday, eating well but still enjoying life I decided to see if there were any changes. 
And the results are in
79kg weight 
7.7% body fat
69.3kg lean muscle mass
3.6kg skeletal mass 
4417 basal metabolic rate 
66.3% intermolecular hydration

And the most important things; I feel much healthier, alert, positive, happier, fitter, faster and stronger, and very rarely feel fatigued or lethargic. I get about 6-7 hours sleep before I naturally wake up feeling fresh and ready for the day. I still enjoy the weekends, formed some great new relationships and work/train everyday in a studio that I love 😊

Eating on the go can be a tricky one if you are not prepared and it can be very easy to go off track.  Especially with most stations and airports having all these convenient fast food and snacks.  Like anything, its about being prepared in advance.  Check out below my top 3 tips on how you can stay on track whilst travelling.

1) Pack healthy snacks that's are convenient and easy.  Things such as protein shakes, protein bars, greek yogurt, nuts, fruit, wraps etc.  You can also pick these things up from most shops which will be located in these public transport places.
__

2) Fast for a period of the day.  If you are travelling over a few hours and its not convenient to eat or there are not good choices then fast for the journey.  A few hours of not eating won't do you any harm and as long as you stay hydrated you should feel fine.
__

3) Eat a larger and more filling meal at the start of the day.  This will keep you fuller for longer and  If again, you are travelling for just a few hours then you should be fine.  This is something I do myself when on the train travelling to courses or different parts of the country.

This change really hijacked my morning routine so I had to change. I woke up earlier and stayed focused in the mornings in order to keep up with my new habit.

Discipline gave me freedom. Freedom to chase down my goals at full throttle.

After settling back down after the holiday and getting ready to kick back in, bad news rolled in the day we landed. I say bad news more frustrating..
The house wasn’t ready.
So to take my mind off things I’ve had a new goal setting meeting with the Coach @casperjespersendk for this years training schedule and also some Skype call with my web designer things seem to be moving in the right direction, unlike the house situation.

New goals now set until February time.
Should hear on the house in the next two weeks.
The website as well should have all the previous guides ready and uploaded by next week and everyone in the WPTCG on Facebook will gain access if they have entered the relevant details.

🔹Walked to and from work every day as my only cardio (goal was minimum 10k steps per day)
