Back to May 2013, graduation! I graduated with a bachelors in community health education #che and a concentration in strength and conditioning. I went on to take the tests to become a certified strength and conditioning specialist #cscs and a community health education specialist #ches . It took me 5 years to complete my degree since I switched majors. I went so hard during each major though that I came close to the credit limit (yes there is a limit, I would have had to pay double tuition at that point 💰). Most of my semesters I took 17-18 credits, I had 1 semester at 21 credits and one at 20 credits. I needed to get permission from the dean to take those extra credits. I competed for my first time when I was a sophomore, and I also worked throughout school #billsgottagetpaid . When I feel overwhelmed, I remember what I have done. The grind was REAL and it’s real now, just different. School+work+working out can be done, it just requires planning and determination. Como discutido no post anterior, a escala RPE e a escala RIR (mais fácil e objetiva de ser usada na minha opinião) são ótimas ferramentas para otimizar a gestão da fadiga, em se tratando de treinamento.

Vamos a um exemplo prático com a escala RIR, que em português significa "repetições na reserva", ou mais precisamente, quantas repetições faltam para se atingir a falha muscular concêntrica na série  a ser realizada. Se no programa de treinamento é especificado realizar 4 séries de 10 repetições de um determinado exercício com 2RIR (ou 2 rep para a falha), significa que ela deverá escolher uma carga que a permita realizar 10 repetições e no final da série, ainda "sobrar" 2 repetições que ainda poderiam ser feitas.

Mas o que isso quer dizer? Qual seria o objetivo prático dessa ferramenta? Isso quer dizer que o esforço relativo ou intensidade do esforço (intensidade relativa) que deverá ser realizado(a) nessas 4 séries é algo próximo (mas nem tanto) à falha (em torno de 2 repetições para falha). E o maior objetivo é justamente o gerenciamento da fadiga ao longo do treinamento (tanto no curto prazo, em termos de microciclo, quanto um pouco mais a longo prazo, em termos de mesociclo). Isso porque vale lembrar que quanto mais próximo da falha muscular se aproxima, maior é a fadiga gerada (ela vai se acumulando exponencialmente). Se não houver um correto gerenciamento da fadiga (e a escala RIR é uma das ferramentas para isso), a performance nos treinos será afetada tanto no curto quanto no longo prazo. 
No curto prazo, a nível de sessão de treinamento, as séries iniciais até a falha afetarão as séries finais. A nível de microciclo (semanal), a fadiga acumulada do treino do início da semana poderá afetar a performance dos dias posteriores. E mais a longo prazo, em termos de mesociclo, você poderá atingir o estado de overreaching não funcional (não planejado, como o próprio nome diz), antes da hora que foi planejada.

Com isso, fica claro que vale a pena incluir tais ferramentas na periodização do treinamento, visando otimizar a gestão da fadiga, para que assim possa haver sustentabilidade da performance nos treinos ao longo de todo o mesociclo. (Não só em 1 sessão)
