Have you ever wondered how swiftly - neighbors, family, friends - folks who hardly know you or your situation, are quick to offer counsel! Just because they saw a fleeting moment of your situation, they then think that they know your past, present and future! That's what happened in the #acrimonymovie The worst kind of counsel is unsolicited counsel! Little wonder the bible says, "first of all remove the log of wood in your eye before you remove the speck of dust in your neighbors eye"! #monthofreflection#blindleadingtheblind
We call sports figures heros and pay them millions but veterans and police and the people that fight and keep our country safe make less then hero wages. Why do we idolize players of a game rather then heros and fighters of our country. Freedom isnt free and for the jerseys hats and games everyone obsesses and spends money on, while sitting on there fat asses drinking beer and eating shit food ....i digress. Maybe just maybe we worship false "gods" and are distracted by a game a hunger game while the real world heros fight the greater battles while we all stay stuck to the silver screen. In any regard thank you for the heros and people that fight so those that cant and wont, wont ever have to.
Can we talk, y’all? Should we all be feminists?
I was 1st introduced to @chimamanda_adichie via one of her @ted speaking engagements, she instantly captured my attention with her ability to clearly articulate her thoughts in a way that was humorous but also made you think...and she is an amazing storyteller...So when I saw this book in @barnesandnoble I was eager to see what her thoughts were on feminism in a world where gender roles no longer exist and sometimes it feels like gender no longer exists. As a doula, I am all about women’s rights, by profession I am a woman’s advocate during a vulnerable time in her life...does that make me a feminist?
Society and media lead us to believe that feminism means you don’t shave your armpits, you wear suits instead of dresses, burn your bras with your pots and pans, do everything a man can do and do it better (I thought that was just being a woman 😉) and never, ever let a man tell you what to do or lead you in any way. Headship? What’s that?
But, I shave my armpits and other things for that matter, I don’t wear suits, why hide these thighs, you won’t catch me without a bra, I love to cook for my family, I believe that men are physically stronger, but with my mind (due to my lack of upper body strength) I can do anything and I believe in the Bible, the New World Translation’s view of headship...I am on the other hand outspoken and opinionated, based mostly on solid facts and not my own ideas, I’ve been known to do as I please (within reason) and I can be slightly over the top (or whatever 🙄)
So where does that leave someone like me?? In this book, @chimamanda_adichie digs into real life experiences of her own that many women and girls experience day to day that are unfair and hurtful...but she never expresses herself as an angry black woman, an angry woman or an angry human being, she sheds light of the injustices and society’s role in it all...(and she’s flyyy, y’all)
So should we all be feminists? That’s not for me to say, but...
Should we all be aware of how society shapes our thinking? Yes. Should we all be aware of our actions and how they affect others? Yes. Yes. A hundred times Yes!
