Most investors want “Growth stage” companies NOT startups or “early stage.” There are probably 10 growth stage investors for every 1 early stage. This is why raising from yourself, then FFF and then Angel investors to go from idea to growth stage is important. Growth stage is when you 1) have a product 2) have a team 3) have someone using, subscribing or paying for the product and you are trying to GROW that business not get it off the ground. Think of this stage as “theory stage” vs early stage being “hypothesis stage.” In early stage you:
1. Make an observation (the market)
2. Form a question (the problem)
3. Form a hypothesis (the solution)
4. Conduct an experiment (you business)
5. Analyze the data and draw a conclusion (traction, product market fit)
Then you become GROWTH STAGE when you want to scale that theory and apply it more broadly. You are not experimentally totally with peoples money (although some tweaks are bound) you are moreso scaling a business that was proven to work in the early/seed stage. This is why you see $500k seed rounds but $20million Series A’s! Test with 500k. Scale with Series A. Grab more market share before others catch up. The focus is not on profit but scale, customer acquisition, market share. Investors typically like to make 4-6x their money in 3-5 years in growth stage companies. We underwrite to accomplish those goals (what value can i invest today so that if they meet their growth targets I can cash out at 4-6x in 3-5 years). So your projections are important and your financial model. Hurry and your business out of hypothesis and into theory and get all the money out there waiting on you! How do you ask? Well...that’s why you make the big bucks at the exit, if you can figure that out! 🤷🏾♂️💰🙏🏾✊🏾👨🏾💻
Sometimes I feel as though I work to play. It feels really good to reply, “umm, no reason... because I want to”, when asked why I’m off to here or there. I work smart to be able to do so. And I have an awesome support system that enables me to as well. Either way, it’s good to take a break and get away to be who you want, wherever you want, with whomever you want, especially solo if you want.
Guess what?! It’ll never be the ‘right’ time, your kids will always need you, your job will always have stuff going on, your partner will always want you near. Take time for yourself. It’s not expensive at all. Look at what the alternative costs you. IJS.
My mission is empowering women. We give ourselves little credit and very little leeway. You can do more than you realize if you work efficiently and effectively.
TAKE A BREAK!!!!!! Too many women are coming to me burnt out and overwhelmed. Life is too short to live it for everyone else and to put everything and everyone before yourself.
Ok. Back to the regularly scheduled programming.
Oh & if I bring you back a T-shirt, that means yo te amo 😘

SWIPE: Vacation can really test your relationship, especially when you run into unexpected challenges. We had our share of mishaps with flights and navigating a Spanish speaking country but the impromptu photoshoot brought the petty out
Yo, I wish you could have heard the conversation my husband and I had when he took these pics. It went something like this
Him: Babe, keep your eyes open and look that way
Me: You know I blink in all my pictures. The sun is too bright. Just take the damn picture
Him: Who you talking too?
Us: 😂😂😂🤦🏾♀️ .
SWIPE to peep my side eye though. 😩😂 it’s all love 💕

Are you struggling to make progress on your goals? Is your life turning out differently than you expected?
If this is you, I believe I can help you... AND I can help for FREE! Keep reading.
When I was in high school my family was struggling and we ended up living in a shelter for a bit. Although I was depressed, I still had hope. Despite my predicament, I didn’t stop dreaming
I used to write the wildest dreams in my journal. I wanted to be a motivational speaker (even though I was scared of public speaking), I wanted to be a jet setter (traveling around the world to experience new cultures and expand my horizons), I wanted to write books and create a lasting legacy (even though I wasn’t very confident in my writing skills)
If you’ve been following my journey over the last few years you’d see that many of those dreams have come true. I’m actually living the life I used to fantasize about in high school and I want to help you live your best, most fulfilled life
On December 10th I’m hosting my #LevelUp seminar live from Barcelona and I’m going to share with you the system I’ve used to make progress on my goals in the face of loss, death, financial troubles, toxic relationships and everything in between

“I knew as soon as I finished school I would leave, which is exactly what I did, like millions of other Irish who left the land of their birth permanently to seek a better life across the sea. And yet I know this idea of escaping racism is an illusion. The UK is inarguably racist on an institutional level, but living [in London] has at least given me the opportunity to find a community of others who experience the world in a similar way to me. It has given me breathing space, where I am no longer defined as “the black girl”—an exhausting existence—but rather, there are other black women around me.”
- Emma Dabiri (@emmadabiri) for @here.mag 👏🏿👏🏾👏🏽
We felt this on an existential level; the struggle of being “the only one” is TOO REAL. This is why The Well exists—being the only one in the room, in your department, in leadership, in the office...it’s exhausting AF. But a supportive COMMUNITY of women who understand what you’re going through can make ALL the difference.

Amazing speech given by @drshinisomara at last year's, @theiet Young Woman Engineer of the Year awards! This had a huge part in me pursuing my passion of teaching STEM to children, and since the last award show I have successfully run two self-funded workshops in Nigeria teaching STEM and I'm currently working on an exciting project with some amazing people to teach robotics in West African Government schools!
Nothing is more rewarding than teaching children and having a direct influence in shaping their career in STEM. I have seen firsthand the challenges and limitations young girls from poorer backgrounds in Nigeria face when trying to pursue an education, yet alone one in tech. Alot of developing countries still have families that believe a woman should not have an education, but rather her role is in the kitchen/to bear children/working menial jobs to provide money. As much as this upsets me, the solution is not to whine about it but to show young women that they CAN do it all, have a family, upskill themselves constantly, look and feel great and STILL have a career in STEM which will in turn provide for them and their families. WE NEED TO BREAK THESE STEREOTYPES ESPECIALLY IN THE BME COMMUNITY!! I hope to one day be in a position to build my own tech hub where young girls (and boys) can be free to be as inventive and creative as they like irrespective of their background!
Today, I will be returning to the IET for their 41st award show and can't wait to hear about the great work female engineers are doing across the globe!
We love our #UAM Fam & this is exactly how we feel when we hear your feedback and read your reviews!

“We don’t have to chase our dreams alone. (📸: @michellelarrise.co )
It’s important we find people along our journeys that share our interests and have common goals. Brainstorming ideas on your own is great but being able to bounce ideas off other like-minded people can offer you amazing perspective and open doors in the future. @myfashionbreak and @micaelaverrelien are some of the badass boos that continue to inspire me and that I’m lucky enough to call friends.. thank you” 💜
#WomenInTechWednesday “Memo to the Silicon Valley boys’ club: Arlan Hamilton has no time for your BS”
Meet Arlan Hamilton, just four years ago, Hamilton was living out of a hotel room she shared with her mother. Today she’s a Venture Capitalist who has deployed $4 million across 100 companies led by underrepresented founders through her venture firm. She’s also raising an added $36 million to invest exclusively in startups founded by black female entrepreneurs. (She’s calling it the “It’s about damn time fund.”) Hamilton aims to close the funding gap for women of color, who receive only 0.2% of total VC dollars—and others are taking note.
With her venture firm, Backstage Capital, and a new $36 million fund for black female founders, Arlan Hamilton is changing entrepreneurship in the U.S. Hamilton’s firm specializes in funding non-visible groups within the tech sector like women, people of color, and LGBT founders. Arlan’s prospective “I think it’s time that there is a fund that invests a significant amount of money in black women, bullishly and unapologetically to move the needle and to set an example.”
