THANK GOD IT'S SUNDAY!!! I am feeling SO VERY GRATEFUL today! As I was hiking and having lunch with a friend on my birthday, last Sunday, my mom invited me over to her place in Tacoma today. First, we walked a couple of miles by Owens Beach at Point Defiance Park. On our walk, we saw lots of trails on the hillside that neither of us had ever noticed before. I got the video of some woodpecking or something happening up on a tree. Plus, on our way out of the park, we saw a lone deer in the grass. That was fun, just taking our time and not trying to finish by a certain time, experiencing the walk and Nature. When we got back together her place, she cooked breakfast for me. An omelette and waffles! DELICIOUSNESS!!! Then she proceeded to kick my butt in a game of Scrabble, 418-236. While I was there, I helped her take a couple of chairs and a TV tray over to an elderly neighbor who very recently had a fall and a broken hip. It feels AMAZING to be able to help out when people need it and DO IT! All I need all, I had a PHENOMENAL day at my mom's and now I'm at home, doing laundry, getting ready to go for a run and deciding what's for dinner. When I got home, I got a text from one of the pastors at church, making sure I'm doing well (since I wasn't there today or last week). I had also been invited to a group run this morning, but had to decline because Mom took precedence. All this A-M-A-Z-I-N-G stuff took place today and I'm over here asking, "What did I do to get the PRIVILEGE to live THIS LIFE?" Stay POSITIVE and GRATEFUL, my friends! Have a PHENOMENAL day/night! #tgisunday#mom#walk#pointdefiance#owensbeach#tacoma#birds#boats#ferry#vashon#deer#trails#run#breakfast#waffles#omelette#dietwhatdiet#helpothers#help#gratitude#kindness#empathy#grateful#positivity#shanenicolich#garyvee#VaynerMedia#amazing
his week at #RanchoReiso
July 15th 2018
Giant Sunflower - Our first Giant Sunflower has opened up and this pair of Goldfinches are among the feathered visitors who enjoy nibbling at the large leaves.
French Red Shallots- The last Shallots were pulled from the ground this week, and will be trimmed and dried for storage. In that 20 foot row we replanted with Kentucky Wonder Bush Beans.
Calendula Seeds - The flower harvest tapers down and we inspect some of the drying seed heads. We grow mostly heirlooms, and saving seed is a critical link in the garden’s continuity.
Cone Heads - the lingering effects of last week's heat wave are evident in both the garden as well as the animals. Levi and Maggie’s paws were scalded so they wore the cone-of-shame for a few days while they healed. Similarly, in the garden we picked off all the overheated peppers and tomatoes so plants could put energy into new growth.
Huichol Tobacco Flower attracts pollinators to the garden and we enjoy their unique beauty. They continue to give resin rich leafs and the plants are now forming seed pods.
Vine Plantings this week include 4 varieties of Watermelon in one bed and 4 varieties of Pumpkin in a second bed. Both beds are kept under heavy bird netting until the vines get much larger.
First Corn Tassels- The Hopi Blue corn in our 4 Sisters plot has sprouted their first tassels.
What's growing in your garden?
Hi, friends. These photos are the first ones that were sent to my new hoomans before I moved in with them. I came to live with my new Mommy & Daddy just last month. At my old home, there were some stressors causing me to pluck (a habit that afflicts a lot of birdies). My new Mommy & Daddy have promised me that they are dedicated to helping me grow my beautiful feathers back out. So far, so good. I really like it here (especially since Mommy is home with me all day)! Before you make a decision to adopt a birdie companion, please be sure to have plenty of time for cuddles and plenty of patience with us. Be sure to do research and always adopt (don’t shop)! I love you all. 💝💕💖
Just in case you’re wondering, this is how a Canadian Goose looks when he’s trying to stay awake during flight training. 😂😴 We’ve all been there! Thanks @besterlanda for the telescope spying! #canadiangeese#naptime#socute#sixdutchessfarm
So I'm digging up some plants in the front yard and I hear something creep up behind me a cat perhaps? #sandhillcrane#4fttall I've never been that close to 1 before he walked right up next to me and started digging around in the fresh dirt that I had getting the bugs out looked at me and left they are really not friendly and will do a lot of damage scary moment but beautiful at the same time #birds#nature
