It's finally here! This weekend, join us at the Montpelier BioBlitz 2018: a citywide nature festival, an outdoor community celebration, and a 24-hour quest to discover every species living in Montpelier. During the 2008 BioBlitz, participants documented 30 of Vermont’s 112 recorded butterfly species, including this beauty, the Canadian Tiger Swallowtail. Who knows what we may find this year with your help!
The BioBlitz is put on by @northbranchnaturecenter, the City of Montpelier, and the Montpelier Conservation Commission, with support from a variety of organizations, including yours truly here at @vtecostudies! To see the full schedule for this exciting event or to get involved, please visit: BioBlitzMontpelier.org. ————————————————————

Managed to get to the bioblitz on the Great Orme this morning.
Glad I got to see and have quick chat to @chris.packham and his crew before they left.
Seeing Chris Packham made my day but I was even happier because I managed to walk to the summit and back down again without any aches. My knee and foot are now fully healed after 12 months :) #wewantwildlife#bioblitz#greatorme#chrispackham
At the first site of his Bioblitz tour of the UK, @chris.packham met The Wildlife Trust’s Penny Metal to hear about her love of insects.
Over 10 days, Chris and his team of experts will be visiting 50 wildlife sites in Scotland, Northern Island, England and Wales to highlight the extent to which the nation’s wildlife is under threat. -

This is a Comma butterfly sitting on a burdock plant. The butterfly gets its name from a white comma shape on the underside of the wing, and the crinkly shape of the wings help it to blend in with dead leaves and tree trunks while it is resting. They are common across the UK, and there are plenty around to see at this time of year! #bioblitz
Results from the microplastic survey of Pittville Park lake during the Cheltenham Bioblitz.
Sadly we found microplastics in each sample with 22 microplastics in the sample nearest the tributary flowing in to the lake. Notice the dark blue fibres in each picture? They are plastic synthetic fibres and now that they have been found in this lake it is likely that there will be plastic in most lakes in the UK. The last picture is what we picked up around the boat house using the @litterati app. #plasticpatrol#plasticsurvey#bioblitz#cheltenham#pittvillepark#survey#microplastics#microscopic#fibres#pollution#science
Great day today at @chris.packham 's #bioblitz in Prees Heath Nature reserve.
Really helped me to open my eyes to all these other living creatures besides birds, cause the truth is, when it comes to moths, butterflies, mammals or insects I really don't know anything about them so thank you #bioblitz2018
Moths: 1 Ear Moth, 2 Drinker Moth, Mammals: 1 Wood Mouse, 2 Bank Vole.
