I’m going to be laid up for a few weeks soon...working on my couch potato queue. Fellow BBC lovers - any recommendations? I like: dark, crime, food, France, psychological drama. Not in that order and not necessarily all together, though that would be interesting! #couchpotato#restandrecuperate#bingewatching#timeonmyhands
📺Homecoming is a psychological drama TV Series on it’s first 10 Episode season on Amazon created and directed by Sam Esmail (Mr Robot) based on a famous podcast series Starring Oscar winners Julia Roberts and Sissy Spacek also starring Bobby Cannavale,Stephen James,Shea Whigham Dermont Mulroney and Hong Chau.
The story is told in two differen timelines about a Therapist named Heidi working on a Homecoming center in charge of rehabilitation of Soldiers coming back from tours in middle east, in the other timeline slightly ahead in future she has no recollection of people who worked there and the events that happened that led to her exit.
This series marks Julia Roberts first TV Series, she has made an interesting choice. Sam esmail adds conspiracies and doubt in stories and he has matured from Mr Robot to a better developed and well depth series.
It’s hard to imagine this series with anyone else as Julia Roberts and her amazing charisma and presence to keep this slow burner going by bringing her “It” factor and makes us more invested in the story.
Another thing I liked was the stylish ambient cinematography, Great technique of scenery and nice frames also use of great score with hidden tributes to Actors previous works (Pelican refrencing another Roberts movie Pelican Brief 1993 and using Carrie 1976’s score in another scene and so many other scores of classic movies)
The short runtime of episodes makes this a straight to the bone story without lingering on the unnecessary and adding to the paranoia and the suspense and makes us all question from what we are thinking (a reminder of noir movies and thrillers from 70’s)
The show is a slow burner and takes 2-3 episode to find its ground and some who like fast paced stories might not like it but it’s worth sticking for cause it gets better and better all the way to the end.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ of five.
