These Ozz Franca prints were in my grandparents house for all of my childhood. After my grandmother passed away, my grandpa got the idea to place googly-eyes on them. The results were hilarious. Unfortunately, my ceiling leaked all over my bookcase that these were on and caused water damage. I don’t care, I will always love these. The Ballet Duo lost their eyes a while ago, I will fix this tragedy.
Blackbird Rising is about overcoming negative situations by staying true to your dreams and following your passion. It’s about taking notice of signs and coincidences, messages from the universe which tell you which direction to go.
The song Blackbird followed me last time I exhibited at Holloway gallery, I noted it playing on the stereo as I exited my Uber ride from the airport to the motel. The next morning I woke up to the notes of Blackbird being strummed on an acoustic guitar on tv in the motel room, I began singing quietly along. I got up and checked out of the motel and wandered down towards the beach to explore, I stumbled upon a small street market and as I strolled through the stalls familiar notes drifted towards me. I followed the music to a group of young buskers playing Blackbird.
After suffering a decade of physical and verbal abuse which is finally coming to an end, my wings had been broken and I am learning once again how to fly with a little help from my friends 💜
