Lovely meal at @westhousebiddenden in Kent - the Michelin-starred restaurant by rock star-turned-chef Graham Garrett. Modern cooking where bold flavours take centre stage in an impossibly quaint 16th century weaver's cottage. The star dish is this umami-rich grilled sea bass fillet with crunchy white asparagus & creamy caviar butter sauce.
Located only a stone throw away from the Nick Faldo designed Chart Hills Golf Course, The West House Restaurant With Rooms is the ideal place to relax and unwind after a fantastic day on the golf course.
The West House, housed in a 16th Century weaver’s cottage in the village of Biddenden in the Weald of Kent, is the Michelin-starred restaurant of chef/patron Graham Garrett. The West House, opened by Graham and Jackie Garrett in 2002, is a small family run restaurant with rooms, with a reputation for fantastic food, earned through Graham’s focus on excellent delivery of the finest ingredients.
Four bedrooms have recently been added to the venue to cater from the long standing demand from visitors. The bedrooms have been designed using a local, yet established and energetic team of interior designers. Each of the 4 rooms has been designed with a unique theme to suit different tastes. Prices are for a one night stay for 2 people and include our ‘Tasting Menu’ or any available Dinner Menu. The bespoke continental breakfast hamper is then delivered to your door the following morning, the perfect way to start your day before your round.
Bursting with character, the dining room has everything you would expect from a building of this style, such as weathered beams, wood fires and stripped floorboards. In contrast to this, the owners have managed to add a modern touch with the use of contemporary artwork, whitewashed walls and light furnishings. The food offered is simply fantastic, created by chef Graham Garrett and his team of talented chefs . When produce is so good, complicated delivery is unnecessary and inappropriate. So while a dish may be complex in preparation our style of food is relatively simple, a clean delivery of something very good to eat. The restaurant gained a Michelin star after its first year, and has held it ever since.

Thoroughly enjoyed this commission by @hewing_wittare to create a 1 metre diameter fabric machine #embroidered roundel version of their logo featuring co-joined #artists @florabradwellart and @elliecbarrett for their exhibition #thegeneralstore [a nod to Claes #Oldenburg ’s The Store 1961] taking place at Unit 16, Stephen House, 1b Darnley Road E9 6QH. Thurs 6.30pm-8.30pm opening; then daily 12-6pm until Sunday 24th June. The image of the co-joined artists is an homage to the infamous #Kent#Biddenden Maids, co-joined twins Eliza and Mary Chulkhurst, who gave out bread and cheese to the poor, a fable that features in the annals of history of the Kent region.
