tbh I didn't realise this was a thing until I watched a clip from The Last Leg this morning. I've seen a lot of articles since then criticising Jack Whitehall for taking
this role but honestly, I see no issue with it. •Yes, as far as I'm aware, Jack Whitehall is straight but acting is literally about playing someone you are not. When it comes to straight people playing gay people, it goes on all the time, as does gay people playing straight people. Stop policing acting.
• "he acts too camp", camp gay people exists so this is hardly an argument but Jack Whitehall in almost every role I've seen him in is camp, it's part of his posh boy act.
•"It's a mile stone in LGBT history and so the role should go to a gay person", if Jack Whitehall plays the role well then LGBT young people will hardly care that the actor is (probably) straight. If anything, surely it show that straight people are comfortable with the idea of gay people.
•"they should have thought more carefully about the casting", it is literally part of people's jobs to think about who to cast, of course they thought about it and, in my opinion they haven't made a bad decision.
