Worst conditions I’ve run in so far. Got caught in a massive downpour, hail and hellish headwinds but can’t expect race day to produce perfect conditions so gotta be ready for anything. Slowly but surely getting there.
Short cardio warm up and a light leg session. Will head back for the rest of my cardio later on. Now to get the house cleaned for inspection on Thursday. No let up in my life. Doesn't just rain. It pours.
What a morning down at Balmoral 🙏and what a way to celebrate the end of Winter FEAT!!! 🤛🏆Thanks to everyone who joined us today and congratulations again on getting through a solid Winter of training!!! 💪💪💪🏆
Focusing on the good.
Mindful Gratitude .
In life good and bad things happen to us every day. If you find that you tend to fixate on the one or two bad things that happen in your day and dwell on them letting them overshadow the good, you’re not alone. It’s how our brains are wired. It’s a survival mechanism of ours since caveman times to look out for danger like saber tooth tigers. But saber tooth tigers don’t exist anymore, other things like a fight with a friend or family member have replaced those dangers that faced our ancestors and these dangers threaten our survival in other ways such as feeling disconnected due the the fight which could potentially lead to feeling isolated. Acknowledging our emotions positive and negative is important because they show us what’s going on for us and when we tune into them, they guide us to understand of how to move forward ( e - motion) emotion. For example sadness is a way of letting go. I’ll explore the meaning of emotions and how to sit with difficult emotions in future posts. For now I’m just highlighting how dwelling on painful emotions, thoughts and feelings (a natural human response) can be destructive when we become obsessively consumed by them to the point that they don’t allow us to see all the little good things that are constantly happening around us losing our ability to be mindful. ⭐️ One of the best ways to override this natural tendency of ours to focus on what’s wrong is to bring our conscious attention to all the little good things that happen. The more we train our brains to be mindful the more instinctually we will be able to do this as we live out each moment of our every day. Until mindfulness is an inbuilt habit though - a great way that I have found helpful for gratitude training is at the start, end (or both) of the day write down 3 things you are thankful for and try think a little deeper about why to connect more deeply to it which makes the effects of the practice more powerful. Overtime science shows us this will help to significantly boost wellbeing.

Let’s talk about silver linings. We all know that the term silver lining is about when the sun shines behind a cloud and it outlines it with that beautiful glow of silver. With the metaphor being a negative situation (like a cloudy day) can have a positive aspect to it. Well it’s a funny one for me because living in a dry place like Bourke there’s nothing negative about clouds. The clouds and all that come from them is our silver lining.
I took this photo a couple of weeks ago when I was staying in qld. I grabbed my camera and yelled out to whoever would listen “look at the sun lighting up the horizon”. It spoke to me. Not just because of its beauty but because of what it represented to me. The week before I had written in my journal the following “I feel like I’m drowning. More so than usual. Like I’ve been pushed way out to sea and I’m starting to get too tired to tread water. I’m sinking lower and lower and I can’t even see the light on the surface anymore. It’s so dark. All around me. I smile and say I’m doing okay because they love me and they want to see that I’m on the boat on the surface. That I’m safe. But I’m drowning and I can’t see the light. It’s been too long. When will I see the light?”. To see that light from the sun shining so brightly onto the surface of the ocean to me was just the reminder I needed to keep on kicking until I reach the top. #jennifersjottings#findingjoy#beautythroughjenseyes#beyondblue#depression @__itsokaynottobeokay__ #itsokaynottobeokay#blue#ocean#sun#coolangatta
Looking at some old photos for some inspiration, and I came across this scan of a hard copy from 1991, as a 19 year old triathlete. I was actually really good at that sport back then, with “then” not feeling like it was long ago.
I would imagine I was in the top 5 of this Townsville, QLD race, as I would usually have a solid swim time, a very average ride time, and usually the fastest run time to make up the lost ground. So this is probably a picture of me busting me gut to keep too many good cyclists overtaking me. Even today, when I get a chance to get out, I’m still a pretty crap cyclist.
I have a pretty good reason now why I trained so hard and did so well- I’m so full of adrenaline and anxiety that at the time, with out knowing of the concept, I was intensely burning off the anxiety, craving the good chemicals that come with exercise. It still works, I’m just older, fatter, and slower now 😂🏊♂️🚴♂️🏃♂️
This week I’ve come to realise that we should never be ashamed of our feelings. We should never feel scared to reach out, to tell people how we feel.
No matter what has happened in our past, no matter where we are in life, please know that I will always have time for you. I will drop everything to be there for you. Even if we’ve spoken once. Even if we’ve never met in person. Even if we’ve had a fight. Your feelings are real, they are valid, and they matter. You matter.
I love you for exactly who you are xxx
For Loz, who brightened all our lives xxx
• MENTAL ILLNESS •
If I didn’t tell you, I bet you wouldn’t of known just by looking at me. On the outside I look happy , fine and confident but 90% of the time on the inside I’m drowning with fear , anxiousness and worry . So many of us are in the same position and unless we speak up no1 would ever know. It took me years to stand up and finally say something . I’m not better not even close but knowing my loved ones around me are aware makes me feel at ease. They are more understanding of my moods and my hibernation days. They days where it’s all too much , the days were I don’t wanna talk and the days I just am so so exhausted from it all. I’ve spoken out about it now for a year . I suffered for 3 years alone and in denial . Everyone suffered around me and although I’m the one with the illness it effects so many people.
You don’t have to be scared & you don’t have to be alone through this.
Confide in someone whether it’s a friend , a help line , a partner or your family 🖤. #speakup#mentalillness
This weekend, the Catholic Girls School Sports Association have dedicated Saturday morning Round 11 (18 August) and Wednesday Round 4 (22 August) to Beyond Blue Awareness. All players and coaches are encouraged to wear blue tape around the right upper arm at their match to display awareness and care. Loreto College is proud to support this initiative to promote awareness towards positive mental health. Our Senior B AFL 9-a-side team got into the supportive spirit by displaying blue at their match this week. How much blue can your team show this weekend? Send through photos of your team in blue to our College’s Sports Administrator, Ms Wilson, at firstname.lastname@example.org. #BeyondBlue#MentalHealthAwareness

Rock In Peace Jill Janus from Huntress. Very sad news to wake up to this morning. Remember the first time I heard the band in 2010 and contacted her to write about them. So giving of her time always very cool to talk to. Thoughts with her family and bandmates. Hugs and love to you all Blake Meahl. Will be cranking Huntress today.
It is with crushed hearts that we announce that Jill Janus—frontwoman for the California heavy metal band Huntress—passed away on Tuesday, August 14. A long-time sufferer of mental illness, she took her own life outside of Portland, Oregon. Janus spoke publicly about these challenges in hopes of guiding others to address and overcome their mental illness.
Janus was a truly special creative involved with numerous musical projects including her role as vocalist for female metal/hard rock cover bands TheStarbreakers and Chelsea Girls. In addition, Janus was co-composer and creator of an upcoming rock opera with Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s Angus Clark and had a decade-long career as NYC DJ Penelope Tuesdae. Her musical career began in childhood.
Beyond her accomplishments in the music world and her advocacy for mental health issues, she was a beautiful person passionate about her family, animal rescue and the world of natural medicine. She will be missed more than she could have ever known.
