David wrote his children from #sanaugustinetx on Jan. 9, 1836, proclaimingTexas “the garden spot of the world.” He had plans to settle and provide for his family in Texas, but would later perish in #bexar on March 6, 1836 during the fall of the #alamo . Elizabeth was later granted land for her husbands sacrifice and settled near #granbury .
This monument which sets atop her grave has her striking a familiar pose observed daily by her family, which she performed every evening in Tennessee. She looks to the west, hand shading her brow, looking for David’s return. #actoncemetery#actontx
