Gaufre Chicken Cordon Bleu / Gree Shakshuka / Lamb Chops / Pirouline Pancakes
Sometimes it pays to revisit known winners; especially when they exhibit the consistency of La Maude. Weekday or weekend, empty or packed, early or late, it's always the same stellar experience.
Kicked of the meal with a classic that had been in my sights for quite some time. This waffle fried chicken creation is pure win. Fluffly sweetened waffles smothered in brown butter gravy under which lays a treasure trove of diverse cheeses, crunchy/juicy fried chicken nuggets, and smoky ham. Salty savory combination pulled off successfully (home fries could be improved tho). These rich spoonfuls were well punctuated by the zesty and herb forward shakshuka. Its potpourri of vegetables with various textures + crunchy almonds is impressively cohesive; perhaps, the baguette could use stronger toasting (slightly gummy) but overall definitely worth trying.
In terms of specials, I was grinning ear to ear. The lamb dish is one of their most popular yet it had escaped me on a previous visit. Tender lamb chops with "manageably" gamey notes covered in a lightly acidic romesco sauce. Accompanied by homey scrambled eggs, plump shrimp, and pleasantly fried/crisp polenta chunks, it is a heart warming concoction.
But I wasn't ready...for these pancakes. Shut every door in the house except the one for the ambulance. You know when something is so good, you eat it with anger? Yup. A sight of banana cream golden stacks gushing with hazelnut truffle (nutella-ish) ganache already provoked strong lunging motions towards the plate. But the first bite, of crunchy chocolate filled pirolulines hidden between these disks of diabetes was positively brilliant. And then, I made the mistake of scooping the jammy bruleed banana chunks on top. Lord, take me now. I want these always and forever. Best "non-plain" pancakes I've ever had. Period.
Self-recommending. Just go.
