✦ With all of the clamor about this anime and it’s “unmatched nature”, there’s no need to mention that it’s far from being the darkest of series (especially through its borderline comical delivery) although it could build itself into being the first entertaining mature-fantasy anime to have come out in a while, which I feel is something overlooked since everybody’s caught up on the rape / depth factor / etc. It’s a step for the recently scarce mature scene in anime.
Days of Horror - Day 15: Berserk (1989-Present)
I have long ago dubbed Berserk as the sad dad genre of anime. I absolutely love Berserk. The manga, games, anime, 3 movies-yes, I even love Berserk 2016. How do I even explain this series?
So basically, it follows the story of a man named Guts who has lead a very tragic life. Nothing goes right for this dude. From being sexually assualted as a kid for the cost of a nickel, to accidentally getting his friends involved in an all you can eat buffet where they're the buffet! Fuck. This dude can't catch a break. For every step he takes, he's forced to take 2 steps backward.
The story goes through Guts' entire life, from his birth, tragic upbringing, mercenary work and becoming the Black Swordsman, and it's truly a compelling story. It's part horror, medieval warfare, romance: it truly has a lot to offer in terms of entertainment. What I love most about Berserk are its atmosphere and the lore behind all the demon shit. The way the demons are portrayed is fantastic. They're arrogant, but elegant, and act as kings (because they technically are). There truly is too much to discuss when it comes to Berserk, considering there's about 3 decades of story and a huge cast of colorful characters, both good and evil (and even some in between). The manga artwork is amazing, and despite the clunky quality of the new series, there is still a great story to be told if you can deal with the CGI. I mean the original anime hasn't aged too well, but the 3 movies based on the Golden Age arc have a great balance between hand drawn and CGI.
I will say that the most popular story told through Berserk is the Golden Age, which is what most people will see getting into the series; however, if you manage to get past that, you'll find yourself pulled deep into a world of dark fantasy and tragedy unlike anything else you'll ever experience...that is until you watch Goblin Slayer xD
#inktober 15- Guerreira (warrior).
Caska, Berserk.
