Over the weekend we had the opportunity to go to the #tilthalliance conference to both learn and share what we have learned. It was incredibly inspirational to meet so many talented farmers, researchers and advocates; to share their stories, collaborate and innovate.
The thing is, when you attempt to align your values for the betterment of our society and planet; she often responds if you're willing to listen.
"It's a great day for ducks..." was a mantra of my grandpa's growing up. At 35° and raining sideways, today certainly fit the bill.
It was also a great day for proving the validity of #polylowtunnels and winter varieties.
We will be at the #bellinghamfarmersmarket on Saturday's with this beautiful lettuce plus so much more all year.

Here in North Seattle, it's all about the "convergence zone"
Because of the geography of the region and the prevailing winds, weather is incredibly localized. At quarter after 9 we've got blue skies while downtown Seattle is socked in... Who knows what will happen next?
Excited to announce that I will be joining the 2019 Bellingham Farmers Market Board of Directors. I am thankful to everyone who voted for me and tremendously eager to work alongside some incredible folks this next year. #bellinghamfarmersmarket
A few dried roses tucked in fresh hops & herbs from my garden.
Fresh flowers aren't off the menu yet, but they are definitely waning! In preparation, I've been drying all sorts of local blooms to keep us going through the winter.
TBH, I have a real deep love for dying and dried flowers. There's a special kind of beauty found in the decay, like a wisdom or faint memory.
I keep falling in love with each stem as they transform, and there's a few I know I'll have a hard time parting with. There's a few that have inspired an entire cake design. There's a few that are just waiting for you to call me up and claim them.
I've mostly stocked up on roses, but also have a good amount of hops, nigella pods, and a few wild & twisted zinnias, echinacea & snapdragons. Plus my usual stockpiles of homegrown petal sprinkles in a rainbow of options.
Just let me know you want some dried floral love on your special order cake, it will absolutely make my day. 🌿🖤🥀
Charity banquet season has begun! I'm always excited for opportunities to play around with new designs and help some fabulous organizations while I'm at it.
This olive oil & citrus cake with rosemary-orange cream cheese Italian buttercream went to the @whatcomhumanesociety auction.
This is my favorite time of year for a lot of reasons. Here in the NW it's the beginning of wet season, but that also means the beginning of fog season, coffee season (as if I took a break 😂) and wood stove season.
Mile long to-do lists have been shuffled aside for mornings spent sipping pour-over on the porch, watching fog rise back out of the valley, breathing deeper, waking slowly.
By winter, I get restless and impatient with the cold and an overflowing of inspiration born just now, in the misty still mornings.
If you've read this far, I should also let you know that Gathered won't be at the Farmers Market tomorrow. Can I make it up to you by being at 2️⃣ markets next week? I hope so bc it's true!
Anyone else LOVE a good shrub? ❤️
Or are you thinking...”umm, what is a shrub?!?”🧐 I get it...people question me all the time when I talk about how amazing they are! But if you love fun drinks and enjoy health benefits too, you need to know about shrubs...trust me!
A shrub is a preserved vinegar, infused with fresh fruit and herbs....and they are the perfect mixer for a mocktail / cocktail. Simply mix 1 part shrub to 10 parts still or sparkling water...so good!
And not only does the shrub add delicious flavor to any drink, it also offers countless benefits!
Raw Organic Apple Cider Vinegar Benefits:
✔️Aid Digestion and Detox
✔️Strengthen immune system

Love the @mauishrubfarm_cascadeshrubfarm booth at our #bellinghamfarmersmarket ...got to pick up a few of our favs today! 😍
“What’s one thing you’d like to do today and let’s do that?” asked my husband this morning. The answer was easy: “Farmer’s Market!” He is normally not that much into it so I often go alone and that’s perfectly fine, I enjoy just pottering about by myself. But today we both felt the need to stay close and hang out, he carried my shopping bags and even indulged me with a fancy coffee 😉🧡
Sweet and Savory
Whether you're in the mood for an apple cranberry galette with vanilla bean pastry cream or a hand-formed ham and swiss croissant you will be able to get either or both the downtown Bellingham Farmers Market today from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. or at the Mount Bakery Cafe downtown or in Fairhaven.
Oh hey, I'm 30!
And I keep wanting to post some gratitude for all the people who came out and made the day so extra special, but haven't been able to find the words. My beau & my bestie planned a surprise party, some other dear friends wrote me a song called "the science of cake" and also I made this cake. And to be completely honest, I finished decorating it after a flask of whiskey with my coffee by the water, so while I might've changed a few things in hindsight, it also could have been a total hot mess. I guess grace really does come with age 😂
Flavors: earl grey cake with roasted plum & lemon-mascarpone Italian buttercream 🖤
I'm still struggling to get back in the swing of things after some time away, but I promise to have my act together for the market tomorrow (or at least mostly together)
It's gonna be a beautiful autumn day! Come say hi and peep the ✨full menu in stories✨
Happy Tuesday my babes! It's officially my birthday week, and I'll be checking out of social for awhile to celebrate the last few bits of my 20s and make myself a cake for once.
I'm not yet sure what it'll be, but possibly something like this dark chocolate smoked caramel cake with torched marshmallows, or any excuse to make some more fresh mallows 😋
These two entrepreneurs will be slinging their creations at the Bellingham Farmer’s Market tomorrow from 10am to 2pm. Callie will be selling her necklaces and jars of seaglass and Madeline will be selling her famous Slime. #bellinghamfarmersmarket#bellingham
Things are finally starting to slow down, my "to-do" list is shorter than it's been since May, and I'm sooo ready for foggy days spent drinking coffee and recipe testing.
Summer might be ending, but the Farmer's Market goes all the way through December!
Here's a look back at the beauty from this season, come find me at the market tomorrow for some autumn vibes on these slice cakes.
See you tomorrow, 10-3pm! Menu in stories.
When the season is over, local summer fruits keep going strong in the form of preserves, slow-roasted berries, and this majestically hued blackberry curd. My cupboards and freezer are filled to the brim, let's make some magic! ✨
