I'm working with ideas of property and ownership in this piece. I bought a landscape painting from the thrift store and added a 'For Sale' billboard as well as a 'No Trespassing' sign in the foreground. Mankind's endless pursuit to explore and conquer has left the world divided into parcels. Who decided that a person can own land or that they have the right to sell it? And what gives me the right to purchase someone else's art and paint on top of it? Driving down any highway in Wisconsin reminds us how the forest gets carved away and advertisements litter the landscape - an ugly American Dream and the effects of Manifest Destiny. 'For Sale' - original painting by 'R. Tomas' and alteration by Beau Thomas, 2018.
