Tip #1 - Have real human connection

One of the ways we manage stress is through connecting with other humans.  Nothing can replace our need to feel "seen," and additionally, as we "see" others, they "see" us.

Instead of using electronics while around our loved ones (and even people we don't know...GASP) allows for human connection.  Play a board game, cards, go for a walk with your spouse, smile at the person on the subway, tussle with your kids, or talk about meaningful things while looking at each other not while scrolling through your phone.
.
All of these provide connection.  It doesn't need to be long in order to work.  I often carve out 15 min windows with my kids (together and or individually) where we play and do what they want to do screen free.  It feeds their souls b/c I see them!  And guess what, it feed mine too.

Shooketh - today I achieved two huge feats in CrossFit- first off I nailed a PB on my Squat Clean 40kg 🙌🏼 and then I managed to complete a WOD within time at RX weight 💁🏼‍♀️

I am also proud of myself today because I successfully went to a supermarket, did my shopping and (as a bonus) I didn’t have a meltdown and walk out without any food
.
Today has been a good day 👌🏼here’s to hopefully a few more like this one this week 💃

So I did it. I finally went back to class. I haven't been since Gayla passed. I was seriously unmotivated. And then when I wanted to go, my anxiety kept getting in the way. So, there you go Gayla. When we are mentally unwell, most of the time, and in my own experience, we have to get worse to receive treatment to recover from getting worse. The world would be a much better place if we were just listened to and supported when we need it. Not just when we hit our lowest bottom. Early intervention is VITAL. 👌🏼

When we are physically unwell, we get treatment to prevent us feeling/getting worse... When we are mentally unwell, most of the time, and in my own experience, we have to get worse to receive treatment to recover from getting worse. The world would be a much better place if we were just listened to and supported when we need it. Not just when we hit our lowest bottom. Early intervention is VITAL. 👌🏼

I’m aware this is a couple days late, I have been out of action and been doing some seriously needed self care but I still feel like it is important to share my thoughts and feelings and show my support to all out there that face struggles everyday. Mental health comes in all shapes and sizes, there’s not a one size fits all, it’s not always what people expect it to be. You can be genetically ‘programmed’ with it or it can be caused by a trauma, it can effect you every single day or it can come and go, it can be absolutely debilitating and outwardly obvious or something hidden and you can still ‘function’. What ever way it shows it self, one thing everyones mental health has in common is it is- VERY REAL. I know this not only through knowing people having a mental health battle but also on a more personal level. It is not something I talk about publicly very often and I won’t go into things too deeply even now, but i know how scary it can be, how absolutely exhausting it is, how a simple word or song can create a storm in your head that may take weeks to work through, how you doubt yourself, how you punish yourself for thinking the way you do, how even though you know what you’re thinking isn’t actually how you really feel but it is easier to give in to it and you start excepting it as truth, how your prayers are consumed with pleas for it to subside, how even when you are having an amazing day your heart is in pain and the palpitations are so distracting, how you start to question if this is how you’ll always have to live, how you worry about worrying, how is effects your self love, how anxiety starts to define you, how the word anxious makes you anxious, how anxiety can start to effect your physical health, how you start to question previous life decisions, how you become aware that even certain foods can bring on the dreaded feelings and how you would do anything to rewind back to a time before anxiety became part of your life. However on the positive side I also know that behind each bad day there’s always something wonderful in that same day, that mental health is not your fault, that anxiety passes, that sometimes anxiety is there to protect you

But here I am! So happy to have found my way out of the darkness and to have found a solution to creating a healthier and more fit lifestyle 😊

I am no longer struggling with my anxiety and wanting to avoid the world. I am no longer struggling with making healthier choices for myself and my family. I am no longer struggling with low energy and not having the motivation to get my butt in gear to lose the extra weight I had gained and to get my health back in check.
