2018 Nov-Dec School Holiday Programme // Beach Cleaning Trial @ East Coast Park

Really proud of our students for getting praised by the public for their hard work to keep Singapore beaches clean! 👏🏻
More than 4kg of rubbish collected in less than an hour
Thank you @kariningwersen for inviting us! ❣️
Mellow yellow! Our last beach clean if the year is this Wednesday (12th Dec) at Whitehaven's North Shore. Come along and join us, we'll bring all the equipment and rumour has it there may even be mince pies!
Today we cleaned up the beach. I have never paid attention to this even though we go to beach almost every weekend - tiny plastic can kill fish and animals. (Tiny are more dangerous as they are hard to see❗️) #beachcleaning#miami#kB#southbeach 바다에 쓰레기.
I found a lot of marine debris washed up along the beach today covered in goose barnacles. As it takes many months for barnacle larvae to attach to a solid surface and mature into these grown barnacles, these pieces were likely hanging out in the ocean for quite a while. .
Interesting factoid: the goose barnacle is named so because it was once thought a particular species of goose were born from these barnacles. Migratory patterns of birds were not understood at the time and since geese would spontaneously show up without any evidence of nests or eggs - Europeans presumed that they came from this type of barnacle. So they named the goose the barnacle goose and named the barnacle the goose barnacle.
Bonus Interesting factoid: Charles Darwin studied goose barnacles extensively and published research on the differences within the species in 1851. This helped lay the early ground work for his later book "On the Origin of Species" (1859).
➖A snowflake I created in 2017 from 241 single-use plastic water bottle tops found on beach cleans. I didn’t even use all the caps I’ve collected😵~
➖Not everyone is able to access safe, plastic-free water, but for all those folks that can...please choose to refill reusables💧~
➖You don’t have to spend a lot of money on reusable water bottles/containers:
•Repurpose glass jars with lids that you already have~
•Look for reusable water bottles at secondhand stores and yard sales~
•Discount stores like T.J. Maxx and Marshals here in the U.S. have fancy brand new ones at lower prices than some other retail stores. Where do you find your reusable bottles? Reusable water bottles make great gifts🎁~
➖Refilling your reusables is becoming easier every day! Special refill stations are popping up all over. Water fountains are another way to fill your bottles. Did you know soda fountains have a water tab? Another way to stay hydrated and plastic free, check out @findtap they have an app that shows you where you can refill your bottles all over the world💦~
➖It takes a lot of resources to create bottled water and even more resources to recycle those plastic bottles. Lots of fossil fuels being squandered for water. Choosing to refuse single-use plastics is another way to help slowdown climate change. Since China has stopped accepting our recyclable plastics there is an even greater chance those bottles you think are being recycled are actually going to landfills. If you choose to recycle your single-use plastics, please do some research to find out exactly what is happening to them💚~

Although on the surface, we see the same pristine blue waters...lurking underneath the surface, is a whole host of all but beautiful problems. Nearly half the world’s marine life has been wiped out in the last forty years due to overfishing, pollution, and climate change.
Save our Ocean protect our Planet 💙♻️🌊

That’s the number of single use plastic bottles Americans throw away every single hour. Plastic bottles may be convenient, but their use comes with heavy consequences. .
We want to live in a world where we can swim in oceans that are clean, bright, and blue!

How on earth does a monopoly house end up on the beach!? Beach cleaning may be wet, soggy, at times thankless and tiring but it is never boring! Our recent beach cleans have helped build up the national beach cleaning picture. Check out the link in our bio to find out how.
