Day 3 of the #INTOTHEDEPTHS challenge .
Today we deep dive into our childhoods and look at the habits we developed to create emotional homeostasis (or rather, keep up the feelings we were most used to - or comfortable with- as a kid.) .
As far as I can tell it seems like “abandonment” is a common theme with adopted kids. I always felt different from my adoptive family. After my dad left, I blamed myself and adopted the story of being unloved and unwanted, on top of a sense of unbelonging. .
This led to a multiple decade chase of “belonging.” Somewhere. With someone. Anyone. .
And because I was used to NOT belonging, I searched out and attracted people that would eventually leave and reject me. Every. Single. Time. I could then keep living my story about being abandoned and unlovable, my comfort zone. My emotional homeostasis. . .
Five years ago I started the journey of belonging to myself. Being wildly loved by myself. Accepting and sticking by myself through ALL of my own bullshit. I can see such a huge difference in my eyes between these pics. The left, she’s still searching. She’s still living the story that she’s not wanted and doesn’t belong. . .
And while I still have multiple layers of gunk to sort through, when I look at myself now I see a woman who knows she’s always right where she’s supposed to be. Always on time. Always loved. Always belonging. . .

Its hump day mid-week. I'm slowly finding my abs....they have been hiding for years. Like sometimes I've been hiding. Hiding from decision. Hiding from life and changes. Hiding from evolving to where I want to be. I just never thought i could my self doubt i was always in my own way. My boyfriend awaken my soul and heart. But a couple of months ago my life changed. I started this journey to becoming a better me.I'm handling stress better, taking me time, balancing everything. Sometimes it's hard and I'm not gonna lie I take rest days. But that's ok because I keep going. And because I'm human. If I stop I do better the next day. I've been hiding health wise too...recently family have had medical conditions that if they took care of their health they might have not had to deal with what they are dealing with. It was a huge wake up call and a kick in my bootay. Now I'm eating healthy. Fueling my body. Dont hide from these choices in life embrace them. Embrace being the best you. Setting goals. Even I want to accomplish new goals this month. Even while I'm in the journey. I now want to challenge myself. I have a group of ladies who are pushing themselves each day to be a better you. In a closed accountability group online. We share our day together, workouts, life struggles, recipes. It's no judgement. Like a group of ladies you were always searching for when you needed a girlfriend to talk to but never could find one that was into the same goals as you. The workouts over 40 of them. Even though I love my body it does not mean I’ve always felt comfortable in it.
And that’s ok!
It does not take away from the love and respect I have for it.
If I do things like workout and eat clean it doesn’t mean I hate my body or that I’m not body positive.
It means I love myself and the skin I live within so I take care of it.
Just like someone would take care of their car.
Put the right fuel in it and you can drive all over.
Same idea y’all!
I would never shame some one for the way in which they treat their body or how it looks.
I’m not even saying that my way of self care is the right way. Shit, I know there are sooooo many ways to take care of yourself! This is just how I do it. This is how people that join me do it, sometimes with modifications because we are all different. Our bodies are different. Our mindsets. Our beginnings. It’s all so different and that’s why I’ve made it my job and responsibility to help people figure out what it is that will work for them.
This whole thing has been an interesting journey that has brought some pretty epic experiences and humans into it. I’m thankful for the lifestyle switch that I made over 2 years ago! -
