Finishing up the twill weave basket made with black walnut, white ash, and a red osier dogwood ring and sewn with basswood. @katiegrovestudios .
Today felt like one of those days that I’ve dreamt about. Weaving with women, sacred harvest of a basswood, swimming naked in the Rondout, good company and conversation... And it’s funny because I’ve had a really rough week since healing class this weekend—
But then yesterday something shifted
— I was feeling really awful and hazy and exhausted in the morning. I thought I may even want to leave work. But then I was sitting with the kids, and I started breathing and checking in with myself. I noticed that I was creating so much pressure to be and feel something other then what I was feeling. So I decided to ask myself what I needed and what my body wanted.
Breathe, stretch, lay down.
So I did, and the girl next to me started stretching with me and remarked “this is so great” and continued to say how nice it was to start the morning off stretching.
So, because I listened to my body and what I needed, I also was able to tap into what someone else wanted and needed. And honesty, things shifted pretty instantly from there on out and my day continued to be a spontaneous flow and feeling and seeking what was wanted in the moment.
This comes back to basket weaving because baskets go through this “ugly basket stage” where you feel like it just isn’t going to work out. But then we listen to the basket and keep weaving, and it does work out, and it’s beautiful.
So moved to see this incredibly beautiful work by @delissawalkerartist at @ciafcairns this week! So honoured to have known Nan Walker - one of the richest times in my life.... She would be so proud of you Delissa! 💚
I just love my random weave basket that I made at a fantastic weaving workshop run by @anahekemetua at her studio in Mullumbimby. Anaheke will be weaving her magic and facilitating random weave workshop as part of @fibreartsfestival in November. #basketweaving#bangalowpalminflorescence#workshop#randomweave
Basket Wall. This arrangement averages 53” from the top left corner to the bottom right. The big circular basket in the center measures 15 3/5”. (Notice some vintage wear on that basket from the picture.) 6 Baskets, 2 trivets are included in this set. $32 plus postage.
Vintage Miniature Peacock Chair. I love seeing these as plant stands. Price reflects the breakage in the back, and hot glue marks throughout...it looks like something made from lace used to be attached to the chair (see last two pictures.) Height: 15.5” Width: 9.5”. $10 plus postage.
