Santa Monica Brew Works. There is a lot to love about Santa Monica Brew Works. The brewery isn’t too far from the beach or downtown SM. The beer is, to say plainly, really good. I tried the Buffalo Ninja, barrel aged variety. It was delicious satisfying with a chocolatey smooth taste. However, the beer here is very expensive for a brewery. The Buffalo Ninja was $10 for 10 ounces, and, as you can see from the picture, it’s about a third head. For $10 for a beer, give me the whole beer. The interior isn’t anything special, but there are plenty of tables and a couple of tvs to watch sports. Overall, pretty good for one beer at a time, but expect to break the bank. 7/10. #santamonica#beach#barrelaged#brewery#beer#craftbeer#brewery#losangeles#ipa#beachbrew#santamonicabeach
This #BBA#lastRites by @ironfirebrewing is absolutely fantastic. As it warms up the chocolate and bourbon opens up, making this a truly fantastic beer. 2015 is still my favorite vintage, but this is still damn fantastic!
2014 Founders Backwoods Bastard. The barrel has mellowed a lot on this beer as it aged. Not a lot of heat but plenty of caramel, raisin, and vanilla. You get a touch of barrel heat on the finish. It’s good, I think it’s better non-cellared or less than a year old as it has more barrel character. Lots of sediment but you don’t get any of that in the mouth feel as you drink it. #barrelaged#founders#backwoodsbastard#beer#beerstagram#craftbeerlife
Deck Beers indulges in another one from 2 Crows Brewing in Halifax. Sadly, the label took a beating in the cooler. This is Dandy, a gin barrel aged sour. This is the first bottled beer I have seen from 2 Crows. Really enjoying this one. Aged two months in gin barrels it yields some excellent citrus flavours, among the best I have had. Finishing slightly tart, this is very well balanced and crafted. Full measure to 2 Crows. Dandy is Dandy! 5.1% ABV #deckbeers#coldbeer#beer#craftbeer#2crowsbrewingco#ginbarrel#barrelaged#sourbeer#novascotiacraftbeer#dandy
Every Saturday I clean off the kitchen island that is our weekly “catch-all”. This week was especially messy🌪, so we needed a little incentive 🥃before getting started. 😜 .
Today’s incentive was especially tasty and abundant. We tried all 5 expressions from Jefferson’s Reserve WOOd Experiment Collection. Each experimental bottle played with different types of wood and char levels. It was super fun! Which ones do you like? Can you guess which ones were our favorite?
