The risers are fast becoming our favorite prop for modifications and with good reason. They provide excellent support in pretzel, round-back, and curl to name a few. Keep reading to learn about the many ways our risers help students with different limitations and body types raise the barre.
How do you use the riser in class?
I mean how could I just ride past this sign?! Seriously though 180 miles in the saddle were absolutely made possible by my barre practice!! There is a lot of press out there about barre making you leaner and longer but it truly makes you STRONGER!!! Be in this fitness gig for the long haul!! Never done barre?? How are you learning Tall Spine and Postural Alignment in your BarrePilates™️ classes? Because how it is taught is imperative for best practice engagement and sustainable muscle contraction! BarrePilates™️ classes should be completely FORM driven—not an option to be anything else. So while music is nice and joyful, choreography should not be driving the bus. YOUR body biomechanics drive the bus. And great instructors know this and cue proper alignment and technique the ENTIRE time. Are you learning how to position head, neck, chin, shoulders, ribs? Can you sustain active transverse engagement vertically? How about hip and pelvic alignment? You should NOT be cued to work in tuck; it’s very unhealthy for the pelvis and SI joint! Stand tall and work the posture first. If you are not getting this every time you are in a BarrePilates ™️ studio, reevaluate. Are you interested in learning the ins and outs of running a yoga studio? We’re looking for a part-time Studio Assistant for our new Yoga, Pilates and Barre Wellness Studio launching in Twickenham, this August.
Monday, Wednesday & Thursday evenings; plus one or two weekend shifts. There is potential to grow in this role, especially as the studio grows.
Perfectly suited for a student or as an add on to another job, especially if yoga is your passion. Most importantly : confidence to deal with people and to be the welcoming ‘face’ of The Yoga Bar, an interest in health and wellness and an understanding of our ethos. Everything else we can teach you.

Ballet is he most rigorous athletic training of all. However, any reference to “Ballet” or “barre” as an alternative training or conditioning method usually produces the response - “but ballet is for girlie girls who love pink”. These emotional reactions are wrong. Ballet is most definitely not for sissies!
