Domenico Clerico began producing wine in Monforte d’Alba in 1979, as those experimental winemakers better known as "Barolo Boys". His style moved more toward traditional winemaking at the beginning of his career, but he soon began experimenting with barriques, a more modern style.
For many years, Domenico's father grew grapes that were sold off to the local wine cooperative and local markets from their small 4 hectare farm in Piedmont. In 1976, his father asked him if he wanted to take over the company, so along with his wife Giuliana, and there's were they began their wine adventure. Some years later, he acquired an old vineyard in the Ginestra cru of Monforte d’Alba from which he produce his Barolo Ciabot Mentin, the most rappresentative wine of the estate. #drinkstories
Came back for the Gaja—cuz no way in hell I’m missing this. As advertised it’s made from the pomace of their Serralunga Sperss vineyard Nebbiolo (with a splash of Barbera just like the red from here). As expected it’s a big and powerful grappa with a pleasant burn but the flavors and mouthfeel are super clean and refined. I may have blind-guessed a floral-flecked pear brandy since it didn’t have a pronounced stemmy and seedy character one might expect in this spirit. Also got a malted milk ball nuance on the long back end that nods to it’s French oak aging. Excellent and complex stuff worth seeking out for any lover of Gaja wines or grappa in general.
Side note: these Kimura Glass “Tsuru” stems are delicate and freakin GORGEOUS and just went on my Xmas wishlist.
Thank you @pauline_vauthier for your time and congratulations to a stunning vintage! ——————————————————
Blend: 50% Merlot & 50% CF
Production: 40HL per hectare
When it comes to a wine like this, I am not quite sure how to evaluate because it simply leaves one speechless 📝 The 2016 is pure, in perfect balance, incredibly precise and lingers for minutes. I have not tried anything better to date 📸 #AlpineCellar

Cavallotto Barolo 1958. #barolo#wine#cavallottobarolo#legrandtasting#verticale#1958#vinoitaliano#langhe#piemonte

Vietti Barolo Brunate 2013
Back to Barolo.
Dried roses, garrigue, granite and tar, licorice and leather, then violets and varnish; dark pixies in cherry corsets, winging in helices and vortices. Medium bodied, aristocratic and alluring, in robes of raw strawberries and raspberries, casting long shadows of acidity, a trail of dusty, come hither tannin in its wake.
