Incredible day exploring just a few of the beautiful temples in Angkor Village, Siem Reap 🇰🇭 This photo is of Banteay Kdei which means "Citadel of Chambers"
Many visitors say they feel "templed" out after walking around a few temples but I think I could stare at them for days. We chose to do half days visiting so we don't try to fit too much in one day and it's been perfect for us.
If you have the time then grab the 7 day ticket ($72pp compared to $62 for 3 days). Although we won't be using all 7 days we will certainly be coming back to visit more in the next week and I will be sure to bring my journal to draw some of the intricate carvings that decorate the temple walls.
Banteay Kdei is off the tourist path somewhat and as a result we got the temple virtually to ourselves this morning. We would highly recommend including it in your itinerary if you are visiting Siem Reap! .
This statue of the seated Buddha is inside the Banteay Kdei, just outside of Siem Reap, Cambodia. It was constructed in the late 12th century by the Buddhist warrior king, Jayavarman VII. This was one of the better preserved, and more elaborately decorated, statues that I have come across. #cambodia#banteaykdei#buddha#worldtour2018#colors#incense
Banteay Kdei was my favourite temple in Angkor. Over time the nature surrounding it has run wild, almost becoming a part of its ancient structure. It’s far less crowded than Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm and Bayon, and if you visit it early enough in the morning, you’ll have the feeling as if you’re the one that’s just discovered it for the first time. The quiet and overgrown jungle around this secluded and underrated temple will be the only company you’ll have.
There are other notable structures in Angkor, such as Banteay Kdei and Baphuon. The latter is a three-tiered temple dedicated to Shiva, near Bayon. I think it would take 3 days to have a decent tour of the whole park. This trip was a DIY so I read a lot about the temples, and fortunately, I had a kind and well-informed Tuktuk driver. #BanteayKdei#Baphuon#AngkorThom#Angkor#Cambodia#WorldHeritage#WorldHeritageSite
