Daughter, one of the most precious title a woman can have. Because no matter what happens your parents will always have your back. So what does it mean to be a daughter in our Bangladeshi community? That definition is different for everyone but this is my story. .
Growing up you were overprotective of everything I did. But I wish I had known what I know now. For every fight we had because I hung out with the wrong crowd or wagged school. I wish I had known what I know now. Every cruel word said to you to really hurt you because you had warned me about the world, I wish I had known what I know now. I didn’t realise the type of woman you were raising. I was so short sighted! You’ve taught me so many valuable lessons in life which I’ll cherish forever. You gave me a new definition to being a daughter in our culture. You taught me the true value of preserving our culture; the right way, you got me into sports, taught me to drive and change tires, how to put together furniture, take care of finances, lead the pack and really be the man of the house. As much as you kept me under your wing you also let me fly. Our biggest test was when you let me leave home at 24 and really put everything you taught me to practice. After everything I’ve put you through I still remember the day of my Nikkah, you bawled your eyes out. I was trying to fight back tears but seeing you like that broke my heart. And my heart breaks every time I think about that night knowing what I’ve put you through. It really is true, parents love is unconditional. .

KALAMKARI SARI: kalamkari, or drawing with a pen, (“Kalam” meaning pen, “kari” meaning craftsmanship) is a block print art form in India and Iran, often used to depict ancient stories when it originated. I’ve studied such prints when I was (for some time) an art history major in undergrad, so I was naturally super excited to own a sari with such beautiful and vibrant work. These pictures REALLY don’t do the saree justice. At all lol.
It’s a great feeling when you look back and feel accomplished no matter how big or small the achievement.
The little wins can sometimes have the most positive impact.
On that note, I hope you all had a great weekend 😊
Shubho Bijoya from my family to yours!! Send this to your friends and family to wish them.
Has anyone else already started their countdown? Drop a 🙋🏽♀️in the comments if you have! As always, I would love to hear some of your favorite Pujo 2018 memories as well!
#60SecondRead - THANK YOU @oneyoungworld for the most inspiring, humbling and transformational 4 days I’ve ever experienced!
Selected to attend #OYW2018 as a delegate hosted at The Hague , along with 1800 young leaders from 190+ countries
The event is working alongside the United Nations and their sustainable development goals in areas such as healthcare, education, environment and many more
Speakers in attendance ranged from ex presidents / prime ministers, 3 Nobel peace prize winners, founders of NGOs / Companies and even actors / musicians
The biggest inspiration for me was from the young delegates in attendance, from every corner of the world. Many were able to significantly improve the lives of thousands of people, with minimal resources, through sheer determination and not letting others get in their way
If you’re interested in seeing more, feel free to watch my story where you can see some highlights from the event 🙏🏽
Next year, the event will be coming home, being hosted in London #OYW2019 ...and now that I’m a @oneyoungworld “ambassador” haha, let me know if you want more info 🙌🏽🙋🏽♂️
If you still think you can’t make an impact, then ask yourself...If not you, who? And if not now, when? We are never too young to make changes happen!

Fun fact: I spend a lot of my free time (when I actually have some free time) Indian reality shows like Koffee With Karan & India’s Next Top Model, and America’s Next Top Model (ofcourse!!!) 😂. There I saw @rajashree.singhaofficial who was really slaying the game & was so so close to winning the title, she then once asked me to make her an illustration and here it is!! Nowadays you will have most likely seen her walking the ramp at most big name fashion shows in India. Go Rajashree!
