๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ’ปWe know a healthy gut is key to our overall health. Those trillions of bacteria in our gut make up whatโ€™s called our โ€˜microbiomeโ€™. The bugs talk to our brain & affect our mood (90% of our serotonin is made in the gut), our immune system (70% of our immune cells are made in the gut), our hormones (gut bugs can recycle hormones like estrogen back into our body when we were actually trying to get rid of them), & so much more. There are bugs known to cause weight gain/loss & others associated with autoimmune & neurological conditions, along with environmental triggers.

๐ŸฅฆWhile the science of our microbiome is still in its infancy & we are learning new things everyday, we know that a key to overall good health is a diverse microbiome. So how do we get a diverse microbiome you ask? We actually donโ€™t need to over complicate it. Eat a variety of foods, especially all different types of plants (veggies). Eat the rainbow! Each plant has different nutrients like polyphenols that feed our good bugs & regulate the growth of bad bugs. That doesnโ€™t mean every meal needs to have  everything, but across a week eat a variety of plants. Those veggies (non starchy) should make up half the volume of your meal.

Which brings me to my first tip: . ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ’ปWe know a healthy gut is key to our overall health. Those trillions of bacteria in our gut make up whatโ€™s called our โ€˜microbiomeโ€™. The bugs talk to our brain & affect our mood (90% of our serotonin is made in the gut), our immune system (70% of our immune cells are made in the gut), our hormones (gut bugs can recycle hormones like estrogen back into our body when we were actually trying to get rid of them), & so much more. There are bugs known to cause weight gain/loss & others associated with autoimmune & neurological conditions, along with environmental triggers. . ๐ŸฅฆWhile the science of our microbiome is still in its infancy & we are learning new things everyday, we know that a key to overall good health is a diverse microbiome. So how do we get a diverse microbiome you ask? We actually donโ€™t need to over complicate it. Eat a variety of foods, especially all different types of plants (veggies). Eat the rainbow! Each plant has different nutrients like polyphenols that feed our good bugs & regulate the growth of bad bugs. That doesnโ€™t mean every meal needs to have everything, but across a week eat a variety of plants. If you already have a strong practice and feel confident with your planks, nothing will challenge you more than a rear-facing plank on the reformer. .
. On a lighter spring (Iโ€™m using one red here), not only will you have to be absolutely sure your core is engaged and your hips are stable, but your shoulder stability will be challenged as well, especially when pressing the carriage out. .

I gotta tell y'all.... Choosing a name for my small, yet powerful studio was hard! I researched it, I checked with other companies, I deep dived into synonyms, antonyms... The thesaurus and I became quite close there for a while.  Synonyms for effort, gumption, ~~~
Here and there, a name would seem nice, but just not quite it. So, I made a list of possibilities and began to narrow it down.  Reformed, Rise, Raise (yes, I got stuck in the R's for a bit) Flourish, Thrive, Vigor, Harmony.... Just not quite what I was looking for.

I liked the idea of Chutzpah (ie hutspa, meaning unmitigated gall or nerve) but can you image that one from a marketing perspective?!

What's in a name? Thank you, Mr. Shakespeare for stating me down that path of thinking. To quote Adam Alter at the Big Think, "[A name] is often the first thing you learn about someone and we form judgments about people very rapidly.  And those first impressions can set the stage for future interactions."

British born Luke started his fitness career at the prestigious Champneys health spa, training and teaching fitness classes to all ages and abilities. A qualified and experienced Personal Trainer and Pilates instructor before joining Reform, Luke originally trained in classical matwork with STOTT Pilates before adding Dynamic Reformer Pilates expertise to his repertoire through Ten pilates in London and the Reform in-house academy.

In his spare time Luke likes to spend time in Berlin, where he enjoys the cityโ€™s art and music scene. He is also a keen runner, and takes part in weekly 5 km park run events. At present time, Luke has a personal best of 18 minutes which he is striving to beat.

You can find Luke taking classes and private sessions at both our Newmarket and Mt Eden studios.

Iโ€™m an organization nut. Not because Iโ€™m a super clean/organized person, but because of the exact opposite. If I have a system and a method I know where things go when the time comes to put stuff away and I have a lot less anxiety about it as a result. This is my small home studio, and I do mean small. I had to make space for everything by organizing up instead of around. The garage organization isle at my hardware store came in handy. Ladder hooks for rollers and ultra fit circles (2-3 rings fit), regular wall hooks for my Pilates Arcs, and a hose hooks for my assortment of mats. My studio has been functional thus far and now that I finally feel really organized, itโ€™s time to make it cute. This was homemade caramelized red onion hummus; beetroot roasted in lemon oil, smoked paprika & caraway seeds; carrots roasted in lemon oil, cumin, coriander, smoked paprika & chilli flakes; quinoa cooked in vegetable stock. Plenty more for the rest of the week too, probably with a few additions to mix it up a bit ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ˜Š

I have a few new followers so i thought I'd re-introduce myself and give you a back story of how and why i fell into this career ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ it's kind of a long read, but im not a simple short story

First off, my name is Erin. I just retired at the end of July from teaching preschool at an incredible hippy dippy Reggio Emilia school. I LOVED my teaching job. But i also LOVE health and fitness and helping OTHERS get their lives on track. 
Because i loved both so much, but teaching was full time, it got wayyy more of my attention and energy. And while it was definitely worth it, i still felt a major tug in my heart to further persue coaching. So i took a chance: I turned this past year into my "finale year of teaching", went out with a bang and followed my weirdo little heart to work from home.

But how did i get into "health and fitness"?? Well... I was a pretty chunky kid. My go-to after school snack as a kid was 6 servings of instant mashed potatoes. I would go to the fridge multiple times a day just to squirt syrup into my mouth. I would eat helpings upon helpings at family parties until i could barely breathe because our southern culture revolves HEAVILY around food and thats what we're taught and encouraged to do. "Eat until youre positively stuffed- then eat some more!" This approach to eating of course all stems from a deep place of southern family love as most of you know, but... I ate like that constantly. 
Though i was prescribed to Adderall in the 5th grade (shout out) i secretly didnt consistently take it until high school. I HATED the way it made me feel: quiet..clammed up....twitchy. For a kid who was already a complete shy WEIRDO who had trouble expressing her thoughts, adderall was like taking 50 steps back in my social skills. 
But in high school, getting better grades became more serious. I started taking it consistently. Fast forward to senior year: i was SUPER thin. I did not eat during the week and would binge on weekends (when i wasn't taking my medication). I hated how the adderall made me feel, but my grades were UP and i was SKINNY ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ [CONTINUED IN COMMENTS]
