LOT 253 - GMT 6542 with non radium dial and bakelite bezel, accompanied by a letter of provenance dated 1960 from Rolex to the original owner (a professor at University who found that the watch contained a harmful amount of radium) informing him that a replacement “white painted” dial & bezel had been delivered from Switzerland and was ready to be fitted to his watch. This would have been 1 or 2 years after the watch was purchased as new in 1958/59. Another example of this infamous recall by Rolex can be found on the wrist of @divetimer #WoKAuctionNov2018#WatchesofKnightsbridge#VintageRolex#VintageGMT#BakeliteGMT#GMT6542#BakeliteBezel
