What you practice on the mat will translate to happenings off the mat and how you deal with them. Yoga is a tool kit which partly enables you to cope better in everyday life and situations. This is why I come to practice. After my practice everything feels lighter, clearer and somehow easier to handle.

Esta semana el foco estará en los equilibrios y no podía faltar Bakasana. Aquí les cuento el paso a paso de esta postura que amo por lo que me costó. En principio, aunque no puedas despegar los pies del piso, tenés que poder "armarla" correctamente, esto es: tus manos deberán colocarse a una distancia media, un poco por delante de tus hombros, abiertos los dedos entre sí, como en #adhomuka, pero agarrándose del mat como patas de pájaro a una rama. Buscá con la mirada un punto de apoyo (como en toda postura de equilibrio esto es fundamental). Montá la cara interna de tus muslos sobre tus brazos (donde están los triceps), y tratá de juntar tus muslos, mientras tus brazos resisten esa fuerza. Ahora levantá tu cadera sin despegar las piernas de los brazos mediante la fuerza de los aductores, y empezá a trasladar el peso desde tus pies hacia tus manos. Activá mulha y uddiyanabandha, tus abdominales y tu intención de volar. Al principio, tratá de despegar sólo un pie, después el otro, finalmente los dos. El cuervo es hacia arriba! No hacia adelante ni hacia abajo. Nunca saltes porque no sabés dónde vas a aterrizar 😱 Aún así, si necesitás tranquilidad en este punto, podés poner un almohadón en el piso, delante de tu cabeza. No olvido mis miedos e inseguridades al comenzar nuevos retos, como cuando recién licenciada en derecho conseguí un trabajo en Chicago, o cuando volví a la universidad a estudiar pedagogía mientras trabajaba, o cuando decidí que sería profesora de yoga. Mis alumn@s y supongo que tod@s los que me estéis leyendo sabéis de que hablo. En yoga, conseguir hacer un asana que pensabas que sólo los del circo del sol podrían, no es lo más importante, aunque una corriente de energía medio alocada te recorre el cuerpo cuando sucede, lo mejor es la conexión que creas con tu ser interno, tú tesoro, y todas las consecuencias llenas de luz que de ahí emanan. 🎤🏖🏁 Day 2️⃣1️⃣ of  with ➡️ Vertical/Standing  or  at the wall 🏁🏖🎤
After yesterday’s post, I feel this one is going to fall short regardless what I write... let’ see if I can do a semi-good job here: hamstring flexibility, as any kind of flexibility, requires consistent practice and attention to it. Often times, I see people scanning around the room, comparing their Splits to everyone else’s and, trust me, that rarely brings anything worthy. It either inflates our ego (‘mine are the best ones!’), or immerses us into a depression-like state (‘I’ll never get there!’). Both take us out of our bodies and put us into ‘judging mode’, which is as far from yoga as we can get (well, we can go further, but you get my point!). Instead, next time you do this pose in a group, or even alone, close your eyes and take a journey into your body. Go beyond the obvious ‘duh, my hamstrings are tight!’ and peel to the next layer. A few questions that could help: can you relax the breath? are your shoulders dropping a bit? are you keeping less weight on the arms? can you level the hips just a tad? if you put 1-2 blocks under the front leg, can you rest more comfortably?

Often times, I see people scanning around the room, comparing their Splits to everyone else’s and, trust me, that rarely brings anything worthy. It either inflates our ego (‘mine are the best ones!’), or immerses us into a depression-like state (‘I’ll never get there!’). Both take us out of our bodies and put us into ‘judging mode’, which is as far from yoga as we can get (well, we can go further, but you get my point!). Instead, next time you do this pose in a group, or even alone, close your eyes and take a journey into your body. Go beyond the obvious ‘duh, my hamstrings are tight!’ and peel to the next layer. A few questions that could help: can you relax the breath? are your shoulders dropping a bit? are you keeping less weight on the arms? can you level the hips just a tad? if you put 1-2 blocks under the front leg, can you rest more comfortably? In today's home practice, I managed to hold parsva bakasana (side crow) and one legged crow (eka pada bakasana) for the first time in almost a year. There's a big part of my ego that wanted to be able to do postures like this again so I was definitely happy about that. Beyond that, today's practice taught me a big lesson. I haven't practiced asana very intensively in the past three months and I haven't done concerted "core" work at all. This was June 2017 so a few weeks after my YTT with @dylanwerneryoga and I was the strongest I had ever been. And it showed! Wondering how long it will be before I get this one back... .
My top tip for this one is to focus on the “lower to chaturanga” part rather than the feet-back part... as your shoulders get further below your hips/feet it’s easier for them to travel back. Your chest will end up much lower to the floor than a normal chaturanga but that’s what you want, at least to start with 💪💪💪

I can do some “fancy” postures.. #bakasana variation  #sidecrowpose here on the reformer (don’t try this at home 😂) BUT the mark of a good teacher is compassion, PATIENCE, being an educator, being positive, being AUTHENTIC! This I do have, so those times when your mind plays tricks and tries to tell you you’re not good enough.... etc etc... well ain’t true. 🙌🏼 We all need reminders. I’m so lucky to have many clients that have been with me for many moons, and people that support and follow me, for this I’m grateful. When a client tells you: “my pilates time is sacred, I love it.” Or: “Wow, I smile thinking about your yoga class, you’ve helped me so much, you really care”. Or: “You always mix it up, I love that”....,Well that’s my job, and I’m grateful. If you don’t give your 150% then whatcha doing?

Jugar nos conecta con ese niño que aun somos, nos hace olvidar un instante las responsabilidades, las preocupaciones, las obligaciones y nos acerca al disfrute, nos cambia la mirada, el ritmo de nuestro corazón, entramos en calor y hasta cambiamos la expresión de la cara, al jugar🎈

Por todo eso y porque me encanta jugar, es que muchas veces en mis clases, les propongo a mis alumnos, elegir una postura que les guste...y jugar.  Siempre con respeto, sobre todo a nuestro cuerpo, escuchándolo y sin exigencias que puedan lastimarlo, pero permitiéndonos el arte de expresar, libres de alineaciones, alejados de la perfección, en busca de ese asana que es mas atrevido, mas desafiante, que nos pone de cabeza o nos hace sostenernos en el aire.

Para poder sumergirnos en lo profundo de nuestro ser, es una gran idea sacarnos un rato a pasear, probar formas, caernos y levantarnos, transpirar, intentar, intentar, intentar todas las veces que tengas ganas..hasta lograrlo (o al menos lograr lo mejor que puedas hoy, ya ese es un gran logro), y cuando lo logras, sin pensarlo, te aseguro que volves a ser ese niño que por primera vez anduvo en bici sin rueditas o se largo a caminar por si solo...la emoción puede mas, y viene desde bien adentro, llevándote en un instante a ese lugar tan profundo en tu interior que solo vos habitas🧘🏼‍♀️🧘🏻‍♂️

Pd: El día del niño estuve ocupada jugando, con mi niña a flor de piel, por eso, hoy, te deseo ¡Feliz día! pero te deseo mas aun, que encuentres cada día, un ratito de juego, aunque sea breve, que te haga poner los cachetes colorados del entusiasmo. ¡No te quedes con las ganas de jugar!☀️

We don't have to weigh our successes and failures against what someone else is doing.... I hear people say "I'm so jealous of you" all the time! The truth is you don't have to be... You have the power to shape your life exactly how you want to. Don't waste time thinking about how good someone else's life is.... Focus on yourself... Explore yourself, love what you do, grow beyond what you've thought has been possible... Because it is... Your life can be however you want it to be. You are the creator! And you are your only competition!

This picture of me doing bakasana (somewhat!) is a representation of the number of years I've struggled to own my own journey... I had a fall on my face 5 years back while attempting this pose... And ever since that time, I never could really do this pose... i guess it was mainly because I was very scared subconsciously... consequently, I used to feel small and not good enough seeing everyone else easily get into this pose... I used to feel like a "fraud" as a teacher because I couldn't do something so 'easy'... But now I realise that what I was overcoming wasn't just a physical barrier but a mental one and that takes time to get through... I realise that It's okay to do this at my own pace... I don't have to be better than anyone else... Our struggles, our strengths, our weaknesses are so different isn't it...?
