Lets talk food.
I’m now 3 years post op and at the beginning of having my stoma I was nervous about eating food again. I was given as list of what I could and couldn’t eat. Reason being a certain foods don’t digest properly and will cause a blockage. So the likes of skins, nuts, seeds, salads, onions, mushrooms, popcorn, sweetcorn, but to name a few. Now everyone is different and what one person can tolerate another person may not. At the start I introduced things back into my diet slowly instead of all at once, incase something hurt me and I could eliminate one at a time. The key to this is chew really really well and make sure you drink a lot too. If you’d like to keep a food diary to keep track of your food intake. 3 years on I can eat minimal amounts of new things I couldn’t at the beginning. I now eat peanuts, mushrooms, coleslaw, onion rings, gherkins, small amounts of popcorn if chewed well, potato wedges. I enjoy pasta, pizza, Chinese, Indian(not too spicy)steak, burgers, sweets and chocolate😍chicken, lasagne. What im able to eat may not be ok for someone else. I can eat only small amounts of fruit and veg as my stoma doesn’t like it. I can eat carrots, beetroot, potatoes, banana, strawberries, kiwi, peeled/tinned fruit, also I’ve heard some people do blend their fruit and veg so they can get their 5 a day. I love my food and can’t get enough of it lol. So please be careful of your food and don’t over do it with new things. Everyone is different and this is my diet and I’m not a doctor so don’t take my word on this. I could talk all day about food 😂😂if anyone has any tips or advice on food with their ostomy feel free to comment below
