Making elderflower cordial from elderflowers straight out of my garden 🌸🌸🌸 everything in my garden is going crazy and unfortunately it’s also making my nose go crazy! I was told local honey is great to build up your immunity with hay fever so in my next post I’ll show you what honeys I’ve been eating to help!
Broad beans, peas, carrots and beetroot.
I am trying to clear some garden beds in the veggie patch to start planting summer veggies. This is always a hard time as I don’t want to pull out the winter garden when it is still producing beautiful food.
I’ll be away for two weeks so I decided to pick as much as I can now then I’ll clear everything when I get back...
I think I have a plan...
The sweet ♥️-shaped delight. Our favorite since childhood and are usually harvested from our backyard. Dad used to save all fruits for me and Ate @lenniethepooh. This time, Mom saved it for J&J but they didn't like it. I'm the lucky recipient. Yasss!!! 😂 Thanks, Ma! 😘
First beetroots. Look at those colours 😍 I have not been very successful growing beetroots but it looks like this crop is coming along nicely.
I’ve heard people use the leaves for cooking, what do you cook with them? Are they used as if they were chard or spinach?
🍎 APPLES 🍎
It looks like we will have plenty of apples. Every year, the birds help themselves and make a bit of a mess...we are lucky we have enough to share with birds, neighbours, family and friends although I might try and net the trees this year.
There are 5 espaliered trees and I’ll need a big net...
Orange Blossom, in Spanish called Azahar really reminds me to Valencia, where I am from.
We were so lucky to have 2 established orange trees in the backyard when we bought the house.
They are very easy to maintain, an annual prunning, some fertiliser and a bit of water in summer.
The bees are loving the flowers and they smell amazing!
We are still enjoying tromboncino squash from last summer.
I left some of them on the vine for a while for the skin to hardened up, then stored them on a wooden pallet in the shed.
I am so looking forward to growing this fantastic vegetable again. 😍
Swipe to see its size compared to an apple!
Volunteer parsley. We have pulled out hundreds around the backyard. it was in a pot last summer and I didn’t realise the seeds would travel so far.
I let them grow for a bit the pull them out and use them in the kitchen.
How do you control herbs that spread so quickly?
Mmm...not sure how that bean seed got there. I can’t remember sowing beans in the middle of the footpath...😂😂😂 I however remember I sowed some in the garden bed where of course nothing has come out yet!
it looks so healthy!
Just hoping we don’t step on it 👣 👣
For the past 6wks we've been weighing and recording on the calendar all of our fresh fruit and veggies as we pick them straight from the garden. 4 chickens have produced 100 eggs, and the fruit & veg came in at 23kg. In addition to this amount, the rats and birds ate a few kg of tomatoes and paw paws while the fruit flies cleaned out the habenaro chillies and capsicums, and we also feed fresh greens straight to the chickens.
Not bad for 50m2 of raised garden beds in a town where the majority of people believe that nothing can grow.
