On a downhill slope, the posterior shoulder muscles have to work even harder against gravity, helping to reverse rounded shoulders. A great exercise to do before or after long periods of sitting! Do you even plank, bruh?! 🤓Planking is a great exercise that we see many people doing. There are several variations of good form in a plank. And then there is bad form. By planking with good technique you may be able to get even more bang for your buck! For example, there is a pilates-style plank (with a more neutral pelvis), or a gymnastics style plank (planche with a posterior tuck). @instara_fitness

We know from personal experience that there a few cues that really seem to help people get the most core activation. This is one of them! Regardless of your pelvic tilt, you can still apply this idea of dragging the hands back toward the feet. You aren’t actually moving the hands, or the body. You just press into the floor and try to pull the floor back to your feet (clearly you cannot, it’s just a way to activate). This should NOT result in a bearing down, or breath holding. It should simply recruit more activation from the core. .

As you can see in the image on the bottom it’s possible to plank with very little core activation if you have a huge anterior tilt and a relaxed core. Don’t do this. A neutral pelvis (slight anterior tilt), or posterior pelvis is going to light up the core the most. .

A stretch you SHOULD do especially if you sit all day. Lie on your back on a padded surface. Begin with your legs straight in front of you. Bend the left leg up and place the left foot on the ground near your butt. Bend the right leg up and rest the right ankle across the left knee.
Reach your hands around your left shin or left thigh and pull it towards your chest. Your right hand will go through the hole in between your legs.
Pull and hold the left leg, feeling the stretch in the right hip flexor. Slowly, place the left leg back on the floor and switch sides.

B A C K P A I N 😩 if you suffer from it, I feel for you! This is a new one for me, like my body knew I had finished teaching my last class so decided to put me on my ass and force me to rest. Yeah it’s debilitating and painful but I’ve learnt so much of dealing with it comes down to mental strength and attitude.  The more worked up I got the more debilitating it felt, so I kept reminding myself this too shall pass and that the pain is temporary which allowed me to relax a lot more. Putting myself in a space that could help this relaxation like a bath with meditation music and a candle burning or a massage (because you bloody deserve it) helped to go to that zen place in in mind. The next day I woke up tender but sooo much better... The power of the mind is a wonderful life hack✨🙌

Finally made it home. The 3 hour drive is always quite painful but I did get a shot of morphine before I left. That seemed to help a lot. Mostly tired now and trying to wrap my head around the crazy last couple days. I’m super thankful for my family being able to step up very last minute and take care of JJ for us! I guess there was a weird reason that I actually had all my Christmas shopping done early. I’m normally the one to procrastinate when it comes to that. 🙈 Time for some R&R and Netflix binge.

I understand that you cannot undo your hard work in four days. But the times when I am laid out because of my back, I slip into some sad ass frame of mind. I did some yoga and although a bit challenging, I finished feeling depressed and unsatisfied. Not trying to make this a downer post - just word vomiting for my own health.
