One more day of island hopping and snorkeling, love it, can never get enough of sailing, it makes me “fly”!
I wish my below-average-photography-skills could capture the beauty of this country. Coming back after 17 years, exploring the mountains, the sea, the jungles, the desert, the colors, the music, the people 🌞 has been an incredible experience!
El hombre Melcocha or in English, the Melcocha man 🙃 A handmade sweet made of “melado” a sort of honey from raw sugar cane. You find a lamppost, clean it (I suppose) and you start whipping and whipping the ingredients (as can be seen in the pictures) until you create a long, sticky and very very sweet candy. If a customer comes along you ask her to grab a sugar cone (no amount of sweet is sweet enough), so it can be filled. You must also help with payment, as I did, cause his hands are busy. You HAVE NOT TESTED SWEET until you have had Melcocha! For #colombianspanish students, this is the origin of “melcochuda-o” - that sticky person who won’t leave you alone! 🇧🇷 Já vi no Brasil, mas posso dizer que a versão Caleña está num outro nível. Vem provar! #southamericatravel#calicolombia#backpackingcolombia#realsweets#feriadecali#turismonacolombia
Pablo Escobar. A name that many Colombian’s despise due to his destructive actions as the kingpin who ruled the world’s most complex and far-reaching drug trade.
Many people know about him from the Netflix series, Narcos. At the end of the first season, there’s a scene of him escaping from prison. This photo (captured and edited by @pema.travels) is on the trail he used to flee
I don’t want to promote the actions of Pablo Escobar, so I think it’s important to say this:
To Non-Colombians: most Colombian people HATE this guy with a burning passion. It’s understandable how you may be a fan of the Narcos series since it’s a well-produced dramatic show, but if you think Pablo Escobar is a cool guy, you’re ignorant. He was responsible for the death of thousands including many public officials, police officers, and innocent people.
Due to these horrible actions, many foreigners still perceive Colombia as a dangerous place, but the reality is much different. This country is vibrant and full of positive energy. Although Colombia has suffered immensely, it’s amazing to witness the positive transformation that has been happening in such a short time.
I just want to say that Colombia is a beautiful country and it should be known for more than Pablo Escobar.
The Cocora Valley is a stunning area of surreal natural beauty in central Colombia known for having the tallest palm trees (Ceroxylon quindiuen) in the world, and is also the national tree of Colombia. You can also spot many different species of hummingbirds, parrots, butterflies and other exotic fauna on the hike. This day was one of my highlights so far. #valledecocora#cocoravalley#colombia#waxpalms#backpackingcolombia
when the world breaks your heart,
find a way to fall in love again.
it doesn’t have to be with a person,
it could be with a poem,
a peach or a prayer,
but one day it will lead you
back to the source
where nothing is lost
and all is forgiven. - jose chaves✨
💖How i stay so lean on a holiday? I can ask that question to 😂 Even tho i did only trained 3 times this 3 weeks (planned more but didn’t worked out😂) & nutrition isn’t really at it best, but i guess it is not as bad as i think. I do eat a lot of fruits tho, must be the fruits 🍉🥥 😏🤪 No just kidding, 3 weeks won’t do a lot of damage to your physique! So don’t forget to enjoy as well and get back on track when you’re home (if you’re not away for months ofcs😝) 💕

Is it bad that most of my IG photos are of me wearing the same shirt? I travel with only about 5 shirts and at any given time 2 of them smell like a dead fish. Maybe it’s time to update my wardrobe. #notamodel 📸: @pema.travels
Spent another amazing day in Medellín doing the Comuna 13 Graffiti walking tour with @zippytour13 Once one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Medellín, Comuna 13 has undergone an incredible transformation and has now become a big tourist attraction. With the insights from our guide, who was born and raised in Comuna 13, we were able to understand the reality of the people living there.

Charco Azul is a neighborhood in the #distritodeaguablanca a huge area in Cali with more than half a million people - mostly immigrants from the Colombian Pacific region and unfortunately many also poor. If you want a different visiting experience go there! Charco Azul has a beautiful lake and now thanks to #charcoazuldecolores also a bunch of sweet graffitis... There’s a lot to explore in all of Cali and also in Aguablanca #backpackingcolombia#colombianpacific#culturadelpacifico
