I know, I know, #safetyfirst but #chile is definitely the land of #hitchhiking which is super helpful since it’s also one of the most expensive countries in #southamerica
I calculated that we covered approximately 1760km depending on the kindness of strangers and the most we ever waited was about half an hour; probably due to the fact that I was traveling with another girl. Plus we were offered water, cookies, smokable greens, accommodation and the opportunity to practice Spanish. And every person who picked us up was a lovely human being. Thank you Chile 🇨🇱🙌🏽
9 weeks. 6 countries: USA🇺🇸, Panama🇵🇦, Costa Rica🇨🇷, Colombia🇨🇴, Honduras🇭🇳 & Belize🇧🇿 and now this trip is almost over! 😯
14 hostels, two hotels, one beach hut & a backpacker resort 🏖🏘🏡___Many, many rides on buses, boats, taxis, tuktuks, cable cars, planes & golf buggies 🚘🛫🚌⛴🚠___A temporarily cancelled credit card 💳, two blocked mobile phones📱, one cancelled flight ❌& an unexpected change of plans (going to Colombia instead of Nicaragua). An estimated 92 insect bites 🕷 (per person) and lots of R'n'B (rice & beans).___We hiked through jungles, national parks, private reserves & cloud forests 🌴🌳☁️🌿, flew in a tiny 10-seater plane 🛩 and drank gallons of yummie locally grown coffee ☕☕☕___We explored Mayan ruins, watched giant cargo ships pass through the Panama Canal, sipped coca tea and tried exotic fruits like tree tomato & guanabana 🥑🍍🍌____We chilled at beaches🏖, paddle-boarded, did yoga over-looking the ocean, rode the waves 🏄♀️ & snorkled with nurse sharks in the crystal clear Caribbean waters (and I found Dory! 😁). We saw volcanoes 🌋, visited museums 🖼, soaked in hotsprings & tracked down wildlife 🐒🐸🦀🦎🦋 In short, it was the adventure of a life-time 😀🌎😀🌎😀
In a couple of hours we'll already be back in the USA and the Central- & South American part of our backpacking trip is officially over! We still have almost 3 weeks to go though before we land in our new home New Zealand 🇳🇿😀 So if you have any tips for Atlanta, Boston or Seattle please share them in the comments ☺ xo Kat
