June 24. Is this what it feels like to have 10lb testicles? In my pursuit of more pull-ups, I’ve started incorporating weighted pull-ups to my program. This was my first time at doing them weighted, and I gotta admit, it feels kinda badass. Even if it was only 10lbs. This is the last set out of 5, the first four sets I did 3 per set staying around RPE 8. I didn’t think I could hit 6 but who better to cheer you on as you go asshole on your program than another friend powerlifter? I like my celebration at the end. Last set RPE 9.9. June 3. After that amazing squat session I was hoping to have a strong heavy deadlift and bench session on Sunday but that didn’t happen. 230 squats felt heavy. Worked up to a single bench at 130 paused which felt ok and then failed the second rep at 127.5. I was supposed to do some real heavy deadlifts at 285 but ended up hitting 270 which was my previous meet PR, I though it moved ok and my coach had me stop there. Fatigued and unfocused. A bit disappointed but I’m hoping it just means I accumulated the right amount of fatigue in building my strength the past few weeks and after a light week I’ll be super strong on Saturday for the meet. I’m still learning the effects of training and fatigue on my body and how it affects performance. It’s pretty fascinating. Well, it’s that or I magically lost all my strength and Saturday will be a big ‘ol struggle. May 31. Ok I had to label these because they are out of order but I wanted to post the best one first. I PR’ed 3 times on squats today, with my top single at 255lbs. Which is a 24lb PR 😱 since my last meet in March (231 1RM). Squat gainz are strong this cycle. Full session went as follows:
Warmed up to 235 > 245 which felt better > 255 which felt great but the whole purpose of this session was to get a better feel of my new ceiling, not completely max out. I’m pretty sure I could have grinded out 260 or 265. > then back down to 2x240lbs and a couple of singles at 230. It got a little grindy by the end, I think there was too much time between the 255 and the 240s. Anyway.
