Today was the day. Literally training since October to run my best possible race with these guys. Unfortunately due to weather (lighting) after waiting 70 minutes at the rope climb we decided to leave the course. At this point we were about 2/3’s done with all the best obstacles still ahead. The staff already announced that all spectators were asked to leave and wait in their vehicles. It was a huge disappointment for all the 8am start time racers. Ultimately I’m glad we left after waiting because eventually the weather got much worse before they decided to officially call the race 2.5hrs later after initially stoping us mid course. On the bright side, I passed every obstacle until that point and did ZERO burpees today. #spartanrace#austinsprint#austinspartan#rainday#fightmilk#spartansprint
It's a pretty crappy thing, to be wrongfully penalized and disqualified from a race. I'm nowhere near a podium contendor, but the fact of the matter is, I was hosed out of my first clean race. .
This has really been bothering me, to the point at which it's affecting my mood since it came to light. But, I'm going to give #spartanrace a hall pass on this error.
I know what I did, and just because there is a gap in their process with how race days are organized, I'm not going to dwell on it anymore.
So, for those of you out there who are not aware of how it works, keep these things in mind...(specifically competitive and elite racers)
1) double check the Results Tent, ALWAYS. You never know if you're going to be assessed somebody else's penalty.
2) you have a very limited amount of time to dispute anything with Spartan Races, so act quickly, the day of the race.
3) Spartan keeps very limited records. Video footage is only kept for the race day, and only available for review up until Awards.
4) they'll stand by the rules, even if they're wrong, UNLESS you follow the above 3 suggestions. .
5) they acknowledge that most racers are on the level, good and honest people, but they also know that "some are bad eggs". .
So, learn from my mistake. Don't just head to the showers and go home after a race. Soon as you shut off your GPS, go to the Results Tent and look at the Penalty Board, cause human error is still present at these events. .
And don't hesitate to provide the necessary, constructive feedback to Spartan Race directly. Give them a chance to improve.
#TireFlipTuesday I did not have the best form because I was tired from the day before but there are still no excuses for shortcuts. If your fellow competitors (👉🏻) want to take shortcuts and do 1 tire flip instead of the 2 required, be so busy giving 110% that you don't notice it until you revisit the video a few weeks later...like I did this morning. All you can do is your best, encourage others, and hopefully inspire people to do the same! 💪🏻
#MedalMonday 🏅3 races in the past 8 days!!! My body is beat after 24.6 miles and 76 obstacles but I'm already counting down the days until the next race! I loved making new friends and pushing each other to prove that we can do it even when we're thinking: "Not another hill"/ "If I get stuck by one more cactus, I swear..."/ "This is crazy..." Yes, OCR is crazy but it's the best kind of crazy! 💪🏻You'll only find progress at the edge of where you think you just can't go any further. ❤️
PSA 2 accounts was annoying so any training related shtuff can now be found here 🤗

Before I lost my headband 💔 RIP 😂 Definitely didn't rank how I wanted to, but for my first competitive heat I'm not upset about it. Some obstacles that I really thought I wouldn't be able to do or finish I did, so I'm so so excited about that. And some areas of improvement were identified, so I'm excited to start working on those. The OCR community is SO incredible & I would recommend it to ANYONE, especially those wanting to push themselves, grow mentally & physically as a person, and find some new friends (: If you're interested in trying a race let me know, I'd love to be your battle buddy!
In other news, I'm merging my two Instas because living in my little college town definitely made me feel like I was living two different & conflicting lives. I also had 2 different & unstable mentalities. Getting away from that environment, I think I'm significantly more aligned & confident with who I am & would much rather have to keep up with one account than 2 🙃 so. Feel free to follow at @arojeda21 😊😊
This guy AGAIN stuck with me the whole race. It's pretty awesome to have someone who can motivate you to get up those Hill Country climbs. My next suggestion for him-- quit his day job and become a pro racer/weekly winner of broken skull ranch because I've never seen a person tackle hills the way he does. Thanks babe for this weekend, you're the best. #austinsprint#hillsonhills
