Doing your own hair and makeup for photoshoots is a lot of trial and error. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. For professional shoots, there’s almost always someone there to do your hair and makeup for you, but the shoots I do for fun/social media, it’s normally me spending hours - many, many hours - in my bathroom getting ready. My process typically involves obscene amounts of coffee, loud music, and mildly hating myself for the amount of time I spend trying to look pretty... but every time I get the photos back, I can’t wait to do it again. 😋
Yep, that’s a sleepy lady right there. But, I’d have it no other way. Working, prepping, living...grateful for all of it! Grateful to feel. Even to feel aches and to feel exhaustion. #suchislife#grateful#exhausted
Who would’ve thought Lil old me would end up at @keithsings loft for his birthday party last year. This was by far one of my most memorable nights from 2017. If only this man knew just how many times I’ve watched his movies, admired his craft and just how many times I’ve sang the song “patience” (Sung in dreamgirls) to get me through tough situations. This night was a universal sign that I was/am doing everything I need to do, to get where I need to be... I hope to be as humble and as cool of an actor as this guy right here ✊🏾 (p.s. you can tell it’s the dead of winter because some of my sweet sweet melanin took a slight vacation) #actress#actor#atlantaactor#atlantaactress#shesbasicallyfamous#hereallyisfamous#followyourdreams#creategoals#aspiretobethebestyoucanbe#grateful
I’ve grown to love modeling, but as far as creative careers go, acting and writing are my first loves-with abundant travel as their only real competition (the days I don’t want to be on the Doctor path again, anyway). Sometimes I even get to combine some of them-like this commercial “audition” where all I had to do was talk about a recent summer adventure (and I can’t wait to share more about that Sedona trip in the blog). Acting is the ultimate life skill...it’s gotten me through a Spanish 2 course I took years apart from Spanish 1 (I read from my computer for the web class while seeming 100 % like I was thinking of it all), it’s helped me through hundreds of jobs that you’d think have nothing to do with it, it’s made me confident in all manner of speaking and networking, It’s opened me up emotionally/spiritually/creatively, connected me with many of my favorite people, and enabled some of the best days of my life. I have competed in theatre, trained for years in film acting, performed in sketch comedy and been invited to troupes (that’s right, comedy!), played creatures and done accents, won awards, worked with multiple agencies, been in national commercials and feature films, and traveled for my career.
I share because...it’s easy to put people in boxes (after all, we are literally sharing our lives in little boxes)-to think models are one trick ponies, to think actors are just lucky folks who got picked up off the street, to think sick people can’t hustle or aren’t sick if they do, to think what you see is all you get, to think the jobs that look the most fun are easy. Even when you’re just being yourself in a room or on camera, or posting a video of yourself talking, being an actor-actually being one and not just saying it-means putting yourself out there in a way the majority of the population isn’t willing to. It means dedication to the unknown. It means diving in deep-into yourself and the human condition at the same time. And god, I love it.
Thank you to @option_talent for being my biggest supporter the last couple years in Portland!

In a future episodes of C&C we will talk about pre-production, the shoot and post production of @parkedthemovie with the team! A walk down memory lane! I hadn’t been back to Covington or Mystic Grill Restaurant ,the location for Parked the movie ,since our pick up shots just a little more than a year ago! Still pinching myself at the opportunity to shoot on the square and in the restaurant! Covington is very film friendly and Angie (owner of Mystic) is an amazing woman. We had the wonderful surprise of fireworks 💥 on the drive in! It turned out to be the big opening of the holidays on the square. Charming ! Watch the first episode now!
