This morning when my alarm went off for work (teaching baby ballets) all I wanted to do was curl into a ball inside my warm bed and hit snooze!
But instead I reminded myself that I LOVE what I do, I thought about how much I ADORE the sweet souls I teach, I remembered that after a morning of teaching dancing I then had an afternoon filled with my own dance training 💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼 Why on Earth would I want to curl into a ball when I had a day as beautiful as that ahead of me? Exactly! But I just needed to remind myself of that.
Having a ‘why’ is unexplainably important to me. On a tired day it’s like a magic pill of motivation, and on a mentally bad day it can change everything. There were days in my anorexia that just getting out of bed in the morning was a miracle, I sometimes fell asleep thinking I may not wake up breathing simply because I felt I had no ‘why’ or reason to bother.
Now every morning I open my eyes to the sound of my alarm, and okay-okay I may moan and wish I had 5 minutes more, but right now I am the fittest and healthiest I have ever been - I can dance, run, teach, laugh, jump, turn ☀️ & I am the most determined that I have ever been to continue being just as strong and happy.
Find your why and use it wisely to keep yourself on track, passionate and positive 💛🌻 So the next time your alarm goes off think and remind yourself of your ‘why’, you wont believe this difference it makes.”
Reflecting on 3 yrs of my fitness journey after the biggest setback of my life. In 2014 I had a random health scare & was in hospital for 3 days, I wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything not even water & lost a lot of weight, the before pic was prior to being in hospital. As I was a semi-pro footballer I always trained & was fit but never really lifted or went gym. The scariest thing about the setback was the doctor telling me to re-think playing football or even training in general which was such a shock & made me realise although I was active I took my health for granted. It also made me realise I need to think long term as at the time I was just going through the motions in life. The combo of gratitude for my health and the fact I may not recover well enough play football again gave me motivation & that was the inception of Y-Fit. The next year (2015) or so was tough as I recovered but couldn't really train or kick ball, I had my football analyst job which kept me going & was silently working on the brand (which launched Sept 2016). Doing research & the ground work as I had no knowledge or experience of the clothing industry but had a passion for it and approached making the brand from the pov of the athlete rather than a fashion designer. By the grace of God I recovered really well and joined the gym in the summer 2015 with the aim of building muscle and trying to get fit and back into football. As soon as I started lifting I was hooked. I was so motivated and my why was fuelling me to work towards my goals and dreams everyday. It took some time to get strong and fit, but I was seeing results, physical & psychologically. I found purpose and something big to aspire towards. Now I'm stronger, fitter and healthier than I've ever been at 27. My biggest personal low is literally the best thing to happen to me strangely enough, because I think I would have just drifted through life & settled for whatever. Just goes to show that suffering can produce character, gratitude and the motivation to overcome & how blessings can come from setbacks. Now self-employed, the brand is doing well, I feel great and thankful, playing football again and working towards my dreams.
