Waller Family Vacation Day 1: a few hours in Chincoteague Island, VA! Hung out on the beach- it was Owen’s first time on a beach and putting his feet in the ocean! He was scared of the noise of the waves at first, but then he warmed up to it. We almost had a big mishap on our hands when Aidan managed to accidentally drop both his and Robs shoes in to the water, but luckily a little scrambling saved all the shoes! And the reason we came- I’ve been wanting to come here since I was a very little girl and tore through all of Marguerite Henry’s books. On our way towards the beach, I spotted one pony and started tearing up. On our way back out from the beach, I spotted a whole herd, including two babies! I had to jump out of the car so I could go watch them. It was so amazing to see wild horses happily roaming, just like I had always pictured them. 🐴💗 Now more driving as we push on to Florida! Thankfully the baby has been pretty reasonable, so hopefully we can make good time through the night! #wallersinthewild#roadtrip#familyvacation#roadtripwithkids#roadtripwithbaby#chincoteagueisland#assateagueislandnationalseashore
I do not know ALL of the horses...but some days dreams come true. Apparently the F16 Thunderbirds from the Ocean City Air Show practice today spooked Chestnut’s band of 6 down into the state park! I have hiked north a few times and not met them, but there they were! The first horse is Chestnut (M6MS-G born 2008). The mare with the dark mane and white markings is Bonnie (T6K-A born 2002). The third mare is I believe M2EINS born in 1994. There were 3 other sorrel mares with Chestnut. If anyone knows them, cue me in? Could one possibly be Shasta N2BHS-J? Going to be learning about this band of six as soon as I can and it was such a treat to see them!! (And oh yeah...there was an air show practice in OC! More on that tomorrow!)
I gotta say, I was a little jealous of N2BHS-H Patricia Irene this morning. She stood peacefully snoozing in the breeze, in the marsh north of the Verrazano Bridge. Oh the rest of Yankee’s band was also there, but she stood apart, enjoying the sun and the breeze. What a lovely morning!
I don’t think I posted this one from last week. The campers in the State Park seemed to have the food on lock down....but that can’t stop a fella from trying or being curious! Just remember...they go for ANYTHING that may even LOOK like it contains food! Like a paper bag of charcoal! N2BHS-O Sarah’s SweetTea dumping out the charcoal briquettes...just to make sure!
