Dreaming so big. Adventuring so hard. Living so loud.
Being unapologetic about our desire to help others build the life we are through service, love and good vibes. Doing it together. Changing the way we think about this beautiful world and our lives in it. Impacting it less and loving everything in it.
If you need some belief borrows ours because it’s spilling over.
We get ONE. ONE life to make INCREDIBLE and ENJOY. If you’re not doing those two things every single day it’s time to rethink..
April’s Star and Yankee Prince from February 18th 2018
4 days till we go back to Assateague! I’m super excited! I was going through the pictures from the day trip we took in February and I realized there were pictures of Yankee Prince. The pictures were of Joy’s band so I’m kinda confused as to why he was in Joy’s band.
April’s Star is currently in Chip’s band last I herd... 😂😂 Alright I’ll stop with the horse puns!
This trip last year was the 1st time I saw Yankee Prince and the February trip was my last. RIP little buddy, we miss you!
Band stallion N2BHS-AG Joy is never shy about how happy he is to see CARS on HIS S-curves! That boy likes to meander...right on the yellow line. I think he RELISHES blocking traffic to take a poo!💩 #assateaguetrafficjam
Playing around with a photo app was only meant for some flare online, but a friend asked to purchase just as it is and I actually love it! Glad she asked!
Cotton candy colors bathing Mr. Frisky Hooves and his seven mares. Taken October 3, 2018, in the marsh off of Bayside Drive.
In the Maryland District of Assateague Island National Seashore, the herd is managed as wildlife. They are a feral, wild herd. That means no vet care, aside from the use of birth control darts some years. Because the herd target number set by the park service is 80-100 and the herd currently numbers 79, birth control is not currently being used. So that means BABIES!!! A new foal was just announced who was discovered in the back country during the September census, born to mare Jojo and presumably her band stallion, General Harker (he sired her last in 2016 and although she may always have “strayed”, she has been mostly with him since) and IT’S A COLT!! A little sorrel guy with a white star. I’ve yet to see him, but if I do, will post his cute self.
So with the new little colt, N6BMT-FQ, along with Bob and Giggles’ August colt (N9BM-JQ), plus the several who are coming of age to be bachelor stallions in the coming month, and Mr. Frisky Hooves finally gaining mares at age 5, I myself am hoping to see more foals upping the numbers again in the next five years or so!
Pictured is 6-week-old colt N9BM-JQ on the dunes. Just because! 😍 I plan to seek out Jojo’s new colt sometime this fall as they are in the back country and I am worn out!
One tries not to lecture visitors. But I have to say there are occasions that stick in my mind where I am SO RELIEVED they listened! This is 12-year-old mare N9BFNS-E Something Special who has been hanging out with Mr. Frisky Hooves’ band in the Bayside campground of late. She was “guarding” this spigot, as the horses do at times. A man figured she was thirsty. So he walked up to her and turned the faucet on. I said OH NO NO NO TURN IT OFF TURN IT OFF!! Gladly he listen and turned slightly to walk away. As he did, one of the fillies in the band wanted to get in on the few dribbles that had already fallen from the spigot and Something Special was having none of it, kicking at the filly! Had he stayed where he was standing, I fear this man would have taken that kick to his ribs.
PLEASE! They know where the fresh water ponds are and they go there several times a day. Honestly, there’s a pond not far from this spot. But if they get used to the spigot being turned on, they guard it and also, as you can see, tend to block bathrooms and showers nearby. Secure the food. Turn off the faucets. Stay 40 feet back. “...words of wisdom...let it be, let it be...”
Side note? To me, she used to be “one of the brown ones.” But she was with Yankee’s band all last winter and I was around her more. She is a spunky girl and I just love her! Look for the tiny white forehead star and the “snip” on the end of her nose. (Stallion Joy has a similar snip...but checking the undercarriage for man parts helps!)
