Nick has been working very hard on the house makeover ever since we got back from holidays so tonight for his reward, I cooked his favourite, a deconstructed rice cooker chicken rice so that he can enjoy eating more dishes. Quite sure I did well slaving in the kitchen judging by the clean plates I had to wash. Love a man who eats anything and everything that I put on the table. Oh btw, if you like your rice flavoured, fry together chopped pieces of kransky (I got mine from my Turkish butcher and they are delish) with chopped salted fish, ginger, garlic and shallots, drained once done and put aside. Add the washed rice (I used brown rice whenever I make clay pot or rice cooker meals because the chewy texture goes well with the flavours) to the left over oil in the pan and stir fry until every grain is coated in oil. Once done, add the rice to your clay pot or rice cooker, add water and let it cook until it’s 2/3 through. When the water have nearly evaporates, open the lid and add back the fried kransky mixture to the pot, stir evenly through the rice and let it cook till perfect. Your rice will take on the salty flavour from the kransky and salted fish and it’s delicious. It’s great to be home cooking in a familiar kitchen but we have started to get itchy feet wanting to be out there exploring the great outdoors. Unfortunately the current weather is not really cooperating as intermittent rain is delaying the outdoors painters in doing their job. Looks like there’ll be more home cooked food served in this house. Also thanking @qbeez22 for the delicious fragrant fried shallots that lifted the flavours of the pepper chicken and carrot soup and fried Chinese greens. #melbournefoodie #goodfood #homecooking #onlyinmelbourne #blacksoychicken #cookedwithlove #tastyfood #flavouredrice #stirfriedveggies #asianslovetoeat #dinnerwithme #lovemyfood #yestofood #followme #comeeatwithme #melbournegirl #instalike #instafood #chinesedishes #imnotachef #cookingforthehubby #justcookit

What’s cooking good looking? I got a wok of Nyonya Chicken Curry with Pineapple Chunks for dinner tonight, a pot of goat curry going for dinner with our Airbnb guest tomorrow and even had time to roast a batch of drumsticks with herbs and turmeric for #bekotheyorkie I’m feeling good that everything is making the house smells heavenly and can’t wait to dig in. But most importantly, I’m stoked that these are homemade with love for those I care for. Hope your dinner is as good as mine😍. #melbournefoodie #homecooking #onlyinmelbourne #cookedwithlove #bestfoodpics #asianslovetoeat #dinnerwithme #lovemyfood #yestofood #followme #comeeatwithme #melbournegirl #instalike #instafood #goatcurry #imnotachef #roastedchicken #nyonyacurrychicken #dinnertime #justcookit #whybuywhenyoucancook #whatscooking #homecookeddinner #hungrymate #airbnbmelbourne #airbnbhomes #airbnbhost #airbnbopen #icookyoueat

#seafooddinner with a view. Sharing with you our top choice when it comes to good value for money meal in Phuket. It’s no joke because to us Aussies, a restaurant meal like this back home would have cost at least AUD100. Thankfully in Phuket, you will get seafood that’s cooked to perfection in authentic traditional flavours without breaking the bank. Located at the top of small hill in Kathu, the #no6restaurant was way much cooler (temperature wise) compared to the one in Patong, thanks to the wind that’s gently blowing throughout the night. The view wasn’t too bad and service very fast too. Our meal complete with 2 fresh coconut drinks each cost us THB650, which when converted, came to about AUD27, the cost of 1 dish back in Melbourne! Portions were big (3 dishes would have been ideal for us great eaters but we were greedy). If you are a small eater, 2 dishes with rice would be more than sufficient. Btw, if you drive up, go on low gear when going down in order to get better traction on the steep road. Don’t have your own transport? It’s ok, just go to their branch in Patong for a meal there or tell the staff that you want to catch their shuttle service to the one in Kathu. We’ve been eating here for more than 10 years and their quality has never let us down. Friendly service with a smile, this place would be the perfect venue to have a family meal away from the crowd. Breakfast with a difference - step by step guide to enjoy your breakfast buffet at 73 Degrees #anantaraveli To achieve this scrumptious plate, start with a few scoops of fried noodles for carbo and a ladle it with Maldivian tuna curry to give it extra flavour, both available from the “Hot Food Station”. From there, make your way to the “Egg Station” for the beef sausage and bacon pieces to vamp up your protein intake and lastly, to complete the meal, get some sweet corn mix and fresh cucumber pieces to complete your vegetable requirement from the “Salad Station”. The end result is something that looks fresh from a fancy restaurant which not only makes the ordinary #breakfastbuffet more enjoyable, it also earn you endless thumbs up from other diners for the masterpiece created. I love spicy food so I carry my own bottle of QBee’s “Kunyah Kunyah” with me for that extra spice hit needed. It’s made of fried shallots, garlic, crispy anchovies and a good dose of chilly flakes, fragrantly fried to make into an Asian snack. If you are in Malaysia and wish to purchase, you can contact the seller @qbeez22 direct for them. So what makes #singapore so irresistible to us that we kept on coming back to this tiny island that sits in the sea over and over again? Are we attracted to the shopping experience provided by the great malls at #orchardroad or the mystical journey exploring the plants exhibits showcased by #gardensbythebay Or could it be that we are just suckers addicted to the range of delicious affordable food at both food courts and restaurants that littered the country? Well, to be honest, we just love Singapore for being able to move forward embracing modernisation yet able to retain its traditional values. We love shopping at orchard as much as wandering around markets looking for pre-loved items. And although we love the range of tasty food at the Hawker centres, we also enjoy mixing up our dining experience by having a good meal at restaurants because they are much more affordable than eating out in Melbourne. We also love the fact that amidst the concreate jungle, one can still experience traditional charm by visiting heritage places like #kampongglam #littleindiasingapore #chinatownsingapore and still know that mosques, temples and churches will always have their rightful places in the society that thrives on racial harmony. So yes, we do love Singapore and we think you would too because based on our latest find at #marinasquaremall one smart individual came out with a witty idea of printing quirky local catch phrases onto purses and clutches. One of them that caught my attention was #chiobu which was matched to a phrase in #songofsoloman 4:7 which says “you are altogether beautiful my darling, there is no flaw in you”. And that my friends is how I would describe my favourite go to destination, Singapore. **do note that I’m not in any way trying to offend any religious groups** Follow @2nsinmelbourne for more places and foodie notes of our local and international travels.

The prospect of going home to cold Melbourne after 3 weeks of gorging ourselves silly doing a foodieroadtrip was really gut wrenching. Just the mere thought of it left us with cold sweats plus big holes in our guts only a good buffet spread could fill. We’ve received recommendation to try a special 1 for 1 Japanese Buffet at Tenkaichi Yakiniku Marina Square Shopping Mall and decided to give it a go. Would we be happy with the food and most importantly, is it really worth the value charged? Since the buffet starts at 6pm and just a short walk across The Helix Bridge from Marina Bay Sands, I was able to spend the time in between capturing sceneries of Singapore as dusk settles in. It was the perfect “till we meet again” memory that I wanted from this tiny island that we call our 3rd home. Being the first set of customers to enter the restaurant, we were given full attention the moment we were seated beside their big windows with magnificent views of Marina Bay Sands. Their “1 FOR 1 PREMIUM BBQ BUFFET” which at SGD124, offered us the best quality of unlimited food to satisfy our hunger during the 1.5 hours sit in slot (6-7.30pm). All four of us had an amazing time sampling nearly everything on the menu. The wagyu beef was was cut to perfection and grilled beautifully giving a sweetish charred taste that I could still remember until today. We also found out that the super thin ox tongue slices sizzles like dancing to a tune upon contact with the hot grill. Best of all, the smoking hot pieces still dripping in its melted fats were the perfect flavour enhancer to the sashimi platter. There, I found sauces and condiments which I combined to make my very own dipping sauce for the grilled meats and truthfully, for below SGD250 (around AUD247), the four of us had the most unbelievable time enjoying premium food at their best. Yes, we did smell a bit like roasted meat ourselves at the end of it but that’s perfectly fine. Bottom line, we walked out with happy tummies, big smiles and great praises for the restaurant for their truly fantastic service. Try it the next time you are in Singapore. #getoutthere #escapetheordinary #delicious

The #helixbridgesingapore is one of my fav spot to be because it presents so many different angles for someone like me, a person who loves taking photos yet not a professional photographer. Asians love to eat. No matter how full you think you are, there’s always space to sample more especially when it comes to good food highly recommended by someone who knows all about the tastiest places in Singapore, in this case, our very own Uncle Theng Hwee, who just arrived from Malaysia together with our Aunty Choo. We were whisked away to #joydenseafood at #westcoastrecreationcentre and boy what a feast we had. Everything that came out from the kitchen were faultless and a joy to the tastebuds. We started with golden treasures entree, sticky crunchy baby squid, assam steam fish, cereal butter prawns, braised tofu with ginkgo nuts, garlic oyster sauce Chinese greens for mains and ended with the traditional yam purée with pumpkin and ginkgo dessert which was pretty much out of this world because of its delicate texture and exquisite balance of flavours. That dessert in itself would have been a star dish as it brought forth the warm homely feeling of sharing a good dessert to end the meal where everyone would just sigh and slumped into the chair being so contented and unable to move. Although Joyden is open to walk ins, we suggest that local foodies join them as a member in order to enjoy their frequent promotions that are very affordable especially the ones targeting mid week diners (application available at all 4 Joyden outlets throughout Singapore). We are well known for our passion for food especially when it comes to dessert. So when cousin Joey @josephcjlim and wife Elaine @e1aine1ew suggested that we meet over food at #tiongbahruplaza it was pretty unanimous that it would be over dessert. Thankfully Dessert Story has a good range in their menu and we settled for one each of Snow Ice Chendol and mango. The chendol would have gotten 9.5/10 if it had been served with a little bit more brown sugar syrup, but since it wasn’t, it got a vote of 7/10 from all of us. The snow ice mango was incredibly good so at least we were pretty happy with the 50/50 success rate in choosing an epic dish from the menu. Thank you Joey & Elaine for the delightful desserts😍 Follow @2nsinmelbourne for more stories and tips on our latest #foodieroadtrip around #malaysia and #singapore #tripstagram #travelingcouple #travelgram #uniquelysingapore #comeeatwithus #tourismsingapore #asianslovetoeat #yoursingapore #singaporefood #followme #airbnbtravel #instagood #instafood #instatravel #ilovefood #traveldiaries #wanderlust #exploremore #happywanderers #goodeats #exploresingapore #foodcoma #hochiak #jalanjalancarimakan #asiandessert

Geylang Serai, the number one place to be if you want to try authentic and ultra traditional Malay food. Here at the wet market downstairs, you’ll find all the traditional wet and dry ingredients to use in your cooking. Once you make your way upstairs to the food stalls, it’s totally a different world because here, you can find a vast variety of Nasi Ambeng, Passambor, Nasi Padang, Dum Briyani, Nasi Ayam, Sup Kambing and kuih muih for desserts. We had the freshest and delicious shared plate of food from Hajjah Mona Nasi Padang that cost SGD20 which had a chunk of beef rendang, squid Sambal and two types of vegetable dishes which we thought was a bit excessive because it was more than the cost in Melbourne but we were told that the beef rendang cost a lot because it was a bigger chunk of meat. Comparing the prices, the same plate would probably cost around SGD12 at any Food Republic Nasi Padang stall but the flavours won’t be as near to what you could get from Hajjah Mona. To wash the food down, we had a big glass of “Lo Han Ko” which only cost SGD1 and this time we were super delighted because it would easily cost AUD4 back in Melbourne. Bottom line, if you want good tasty food prepared the traditional way, you have to pay for the fresh ingredients and hours of labour it took to cook. If you are a foodie and travelling to Singapore from mid May onwards, please make your way to #geylangserai as they have the #geylangseraibazaarramadan that stretches for miles selling all manner of food during the Muslim fasting month. It is something not to be missed, so go there with an empty stomach to have the best culinary experience in your lifetime. I received a message to check out the #laksayongtaufoo at #tiongbahrumarket as part of our foodieroadtrip so here we are to do just that. Took 10 of my favourite pieces to go with laksa soup without noodles and even asked for extra sambal which uncle gladly added to my bowl although he did caution me that it is very spicy. My verdict, it was good as the yong tau foo pieces themselves were tasty. I could taste the stuffed fish meat in the pieces and the bean curd skin was super crispy, just nice to be dunked in the creamy, tasty broth. Even Nick who had the #cheekueh couldn’t resist trying and deemed it delicious. As for dessert, can’t go past sea coconut and lychee because their mildly sweet and cold combo was just what we needed on a hot day. For those who have not been to Tiong Bahru Market to eat at their Hawker Centre upstairs, do pay them a visit soon. The whole area had undergone a major refurbishment recently and now has large industrial fans to keep the air circulating. Lots of stalls to chose from and with 3 of them had earned individual #michelinstar for their food, you really have nothing to lose. If you are a fan of Hainanese Curry Rice, you have to try #looshainanesecurryrice close to #tiongbahrumarket The business has been operating since 1946 making it an icon that is still pulling in massive crowd despite many trendy eateries popping up in the area. Our favourite combo from Loo’s has got to be curry squid, sambal prawns, stewed cabbage and fried onion omelette which normally comes up to about SGD5.50. Bear in mind that the squid is big which they will slice into smaller rings for your ease of eating. Food portion here is very decent and dishes flavoursome, so you really get the value of your money. There’s ALWAYS a queue outside the stall but then this is Singapore and it’s expected at all GOOD places. Thankfully, it moves pretty quick and in no time, you’ll get to savour a good meal at a very cheap price. When in Singapore, it is NOT A SIN to have additional midnight snack after the initial supper. It’s close to midnight as the Tan clan gathered at #adamfoodcentre for a midnight snack of #satay and drink and what a glorious start to the day it was. Nothing like a good dose of tasty protein and teh tarik to keep the body going😍. Loving the days in Singapore because we can have ANYTHING and EVERYTHING at ANYTIME! We had Durian dinner at 7pm and although it was quite filling immediately after eating, after a while we got hungry again. Thank God everyone was in the mood for a feast, so we headed out to #alazharrestaurant close to Beauty World MRT Station. This place is a favourite hangout for everyone serving 24 hours daily. Their menu is superbly extensive covering from cooked dishes to go with plain rice or ala-carte one meal wonders like burgers, steaks, canai, murtabak, fried noodles or Nasi Lemak. And because their menu is extensive feeding more than 500 people a day, please don’t judge them on their quality as though you are judging a 5 Star Restaurant. This is a place where you have a good feed with your family and friends. Their food is good enough to fill up hungry tummies while having great laughs catching up and we certainly had that. We did well ordering ours to share because they came out good. Lamb murtabak was tasty and crispy, the kueh teow was good and chicken briyani got all the flavours it needs. A bit disappointed with the cold desserts of chendol and ABC as they lack gula melaka syrup which would have taken them to an unbelievable level. Thank you to our childhood friend, Irene @lovictorian for joining us throughout the day’s meals from treating us to lunch in Bedok, joining us for durian dinner at Ghim Moh and again, treating us to supper at Al-Azhar. So happy to have you as part of our SG family now as there would be many more catch ups in the future. ***SWIPE FOR MORE PHOTOS*** This is the story when princes and princesses from various kingdoms came together for a feast on the king of fruits aka #durian sold by #leledurian stall at Ghim Moh Market in Singapore. They say the best durians from Malaysia are all exported to Singapore and nowadays China. I totally agree on that statement because Singaporean have been known to enjoy the best flavoursome ones for years. The ones from Lele are no ordinary durians folks because their quality is guaranteed. What the seller does is to have newly dropped durians from orchards in Pahang delivered to them daily which means they only serve you the freshest fruit starting from 5pm onwards. These fruits will be open for you when you arrive to ensure that you are satisfied with the quality that you get. The #musangkingdurian was selling at SGD16/kg and the #d24durian was just at SGD10/kg. Please note that it is highly encouraged that you call the vendor to reserve the number of fruits that you want. Most often than not, they are sold out leaving those walking in without reservations disappointed. We consumed about 6 fruits which resulted in smelly burps but that’s life back in Asia. True love is about accepting someone wholly, smelly burps and farts including😅 Thank you to cousin Ken for the delicious treat and to Irene @lovictorian for getting us a table and fresh mangosteen to complete the dinner. Best durians in SG indeed. You’ll never walk HUNGRY when in Singapore. Every corner is a good culinary adventure waiting to happen and we had an amazing session at 936 Spicy Hot Pot in #singlap This foodcourt is definitely a local’s favourite serving many variety of food under one roof. We were spoilt for choice and after a long deliberation, decided with the theme, “more is better”. We settled on the crowd’s favourite, sticky spicy baby squid, belacan kangkung and deep fried cereal chicken to go with rice for mains. For desserts, we had rojak and wet spring rolls filled with eggs and veg. Happy to inform that kitchen helpers were ecstatic to get clean plates returned from our table. Deliciously cooked food without breaking the bank plus this place is open 24/7! We will be back! #chaikueh and snacks are the best to start the day! Only in Singapore we get to do this as they are sold everywhere unlike in Melbourne. There were many raised eyebrows looking at me dousing the “chai kueh” with chilli and soy sauce so early in the morning followed by desserts instead of the traditional coffee or tea, but trust me, it’s the best way to get a kick out of living on the edge and enjoying life the way I want it to the fullest! So do what you want, live your dream and stop worrying about what society might think of you! Last night in KL and we went all out starting with dinner at #sariraturestaurant located at Wisma Consplant (facing Subang Parade). It serves traditional Indonesian food buffet which was surprisingly flavoursome. We had crispy fried chicken, fish in creamy coconut broth, beef rendang, sweet potato leaves, green and red sambals and crispy chips to go with steamed white rice. The menu took us back to the years we were growing up in the small town of Muar. They were unpretentious yet full of flavour just like how our grandparents would cook them for us. We then walked over to Paparich Subang Parade for supper and although the food was a bit of a letdown (nothing outstanding comes to mind as nearly all were lacking the oomph for me to rave about), the company on the other hand, was excellent. Our business partner, Chin was there with his wife Michelle, whom, together with Anna @annabas101 were my classmates since primary 1, my kennel partner during the years of breeding and showing Silky Terriers, Cris Lee, came all the way from Sunway to join us too. It was a fun night full of crazy laughter and not wanting to put an early end to the night, we then went to Maccas USJ to have some ice-creams. What a beautiful night it was gathering memories with those we hold dear to our hearts. It was close to 1am when we had to bid farewell to everyone as we still have lots of packing to do before catching an early morning flight to Singapore! To say that we had a good run with our foodieroadtrip around parts of Malaysia would be an understatement. We had such a fabulous time exploring the best flavours of Malaysia thanks to family and friends who took it upon themselves to be our tour guides. Massive thank you from us for this amazing time. The past 2 weeks, we have been driving around on our foodieroadtrip which was made possible by the loan car provided by our business partner in Msia at Easy Autogate. This little beauty has been our savings grace taking us across states from Johor to Perak. The #peroduamyvi 1.5 manual is not only a reliable car, it is also very fuel efficient (hitting an average of 15km/litre on the highway and about 10.5km/litre going through constant traffic in the city). It has the power to overtake, pretty stable for a small car yet roomy enough to carry full passengers with luggage. The turning radius is excellent and thanks to its size, pretty easy to park. It has served us so well, it is only fair that we give it a good wash before we hand it back to its rightful owners. Thank you Chin & Michelle for giving us this chance to relive the good times we used to have going on weekend road trips with our friends and family to enjoy the food interstate. It’s something that we truly missed living in Melbourne and to be able to do it again really left us much recharged. For those looking for a good reliable car that can take you places without burning a hole in your wallet paying for petrol, the Perodua Myvi is your answer. If you don’t believe us who have been driving hundreds of kilometres in this beauty, why not take it for a test drive? I’m sure you would love it too. Known as “THE MAMAK WITH A KILLER VIEW”, Rani’s Corner at Taman Saga, 68000 Ampang Selangor is also one that serves authentic Indian food on top of others like roti salad “salad roll”, maggie goreng “fried instant noodles”, roti tissue “crispy thin flatbread drizzled in butter and sugar” and sup kambing “mutton soup”. The view that you get while enjoying the food is enough to get one intoxicated on the majestic beauty of KL City Centre. We were there when they were just starting to cook so this became a teaser trip for what we could have the next time we are back in KL. Thank you TC @tc7542 for taking the time to show us all the viewing points of KL City from around Cheras and Ampang. Can’t wait to be home again to try their food! At #waterviewhululangat where one can come for the scenic view while enjoying good food as added bonus. We had been snacking while shopping for stuff to bring home so couldn’t order much since it was close to dinner. The food nonetheless, were deliciously prepared in Thai style and came out super fresh, served with fragrant long grain rice. Guest are encouraged to feed the ducks, fish and together with the picturesque setting, you can feel your worries melt away. A great place for family gathering just a stone throw away from #kl. I’m glad that hidden gems like this place still exist for the city folks to enjoy. Too many skyscrapers turning the city into a concrete jungle so people need to seek respite where the eyes could feast on nature’s beauty. We felt amazingly refreshed just after an hour here. You should try it too. Free per view to anyone who dares to get down from their car. Fast traffic on the road but it was worth it because the view of #kl was bloody fantastic. Unfortunately I can’t reveal the exact location as it’s not safe and might cause a massive jam if everyone starts to stop by to take photos. The first time I saw Jessy @jcchris smile in person was when she came to surprise me during dinner at #curryleafrestaurant Damansara Jaya, secretly organised by our sneaky bestie, Junie @yenjunie Unknowingly, this gathering was turning into a serious session of hardcore food and succulent lovers as we found out that Jessy loves her banana rice nearly as much as the beautiful succulent collection she has at home. Oh btw, Jessy is the current “Succulent Queen” reigning on the “Plant & Garden Malaysia” FB page and a commercial scrapbook designer, so to actually meet her in person was indeed a treat. And best of all, our collage mate, Aida @darlingator is also into succulents and cactuses plus another creative soul who dwells in mixed media. To have all my dearest friends who are fans of banana leaf rice gather over a great meal was a blessing. We kept on ordering more and more food until the shy waiters became too familiar with our table, they immediately came even before we raise our hands to order more. The #bananaleafrice here was served with tasty condiments which they weren’t stingy to serve. The ala crate curries and fried dishes were cooked fresh and their garlic nan super crispy. Service was good because they were super attentive making the dining experience very pleasant. Snorts and loud laughter could be heard tables away because everyone was just having a good time. Thank you Junie, Jessy and Aida for spending precious time with us making our foodieroadtrip a memory to last a lifetime. From lunch to dinner, our foodie mate, Aida aka @darlingator kept to her promise to keep us company throughout the day. We headed out to #thecurvedamansara to walk off the extra pound or two, gained from lunch and had fun shopping together with @aiveeloh before she left for her dinner engagement. The crowd at Curve was madness so after deliberating on what we should review next, we decided on #littlepenangcafethecurve Ordered 2 #friedkueyteow and 1 #rojakbuah to share and although the rojak buah was spot on, the fried kueh teow could be a bit more burnt in order to make it more fragrant and tastier. Our rating for the complete experience is 8.5/10 because they were attentive and delivered the food in record time despite the crowd. Thank you Ivy and Aida for being our shopping buddies for the day. Truly appreciated🙏🏼. The quest to seek out new eating spots lead us to #alimuthuandahhock at Ara Damansara. It was relatively small joint favoured by locals and by the time we got there just after 12 noon, most of the dishes were already sold out😭. Nevertheless, we managed to get them to scrape up 3 plates of Nasi Lemak with “ayam goreng berempah”, “beef rendang” and fried eggs. The rice has the right amount of coconut milk without being too creamy which I think most of the health conscious foodies would appreciate. The fried chicken could do with a bit more herbs so that their flavours would pop out a bit more. For the locals within the area, this place is the go to hotspot for breakfast and lunch on weekend because there are ample parking around the area. If you want to check out this eatery, check their FB page under “Ali, Muthu & Ah Hock”. ***SWIPE FOR MORE PHOTOS*** Have you seen oysters as big as these? Nick and I were speechless because we are used to tiny ones that’s just 1/10 of these monsters! This is a tale of our road trip to #kualaselangor with our besties @yenjunie @tc7542 and @hmseen that was so full of giggles and laughter, we all had sore jaws even before reaching the restaurant. Restoran Kwang Wah came highly recommended by TC who is also a tour guide. His familiarity in choosing the seafood meant only one thing for us, we are in good hands so bring them on! The appetisers came in the form of trio of blanched shellfish, cockles and 2 types of whelk. Then came the oysters, spicy bamboo lala, Chinese steamed fish, belacan veg and two types of crabs cooked in sweet and spicy egg gravy and fried in salted egg batter. The big and thick flesh of the oysters made it a bit bland so you have to eat it well garnished. It is a bit chewy and not one you can just swallow in one gulp or you’ll surely choke! I do think that it is something that would make a good flavour and texture enhancer to your omelette or deep fried in garlic and curry leaves batter. Nevertheless, the 5 of us foodies had a great fun enjoying the food coupled with soft salty breeze while feasting our eyes on the picturesque scenery. The total bill was just above RM400 (around AUD130) which was including 2 rounds of drinks for all! If you are feeling famished after reading this and want to try them out, the address is No 1A, Jalan Bagan Sungai Yu,

#22halestreet you stole my heart at first sight. Believe it or not, this is the first time this self proclaimed “foodie” didn’t have any food photos to show!! Our big group of 8 adults and baby Miles were at 22 Hale Street for late lunch but none was able to take photos of the food because we were busy checking out the deco! We actually had 2 plates of “Nasi Kerabu”, 3 plates of “Char Kueh Tiow”, 2 plates of “Oyster Omelette” and 1 plate of “Rojak Buah” to share plus 10 servings of drinks. None took any photos because we were famished and ate everything at an amazing speed, clean plates were taken back to the kitchen in record time. Both the kerabu and kueh teow were ok, the rojak buah spot on, but the oyster omelette was a bit heavy on the egg which made the oysters seems drowning in them. The drinks were great and we had a fantastic time catching up while admiring the beautiful antique decor, put together by Puan Seri Dato’ Sandra Lee Wei Feng. The idea was to establish a gallery that showcase the history of Ipoh from the people’s point of view while promoting art as a collaborative culture. It also serves as a distribution point for the handy craft made by members of #persatuandaybreak a local #ngo that champions and creates opportunities for people with disabilities. Thank you @azrulazmi0106 for introducing us to this amazing place. I’m now itching to organise a private function here so someone quick hire me to plan your event! Malaysian know that #ipoh is famous for two types of food and one of them is the #savourybiscuits Welcome to #chinghanguan a pioneer in the industry with the business running since 1949. Now in the hands of the 3rd generation, the biscuits are still being made by hand using the family’s traditional recipes. Nick and I love our #hiongpiah aka #fragrantbiscuit very much and to be able to get them fresh from the source is like a dream come true. They are round, slightly flattened, have sweet sticky filling made of malt and shallots, encased in a baked flaky pastry and lastly topped with toasted sesame seeds. We can eat these biscuits 24/7 everyday if supply is not the issue! That’s how much we love them😍. When I was doing a research on Ching Han Guan, I came across a post by @alwaystravelicious which I think is the perfect description of what you can find once you step foot into the shop that I wish to share with everyone since I don’t blog:- http://alwaystravelicious.com/2013/02/05/ching-han-guan-biscuits-ipoh/ Remember that it is PARAMOUNT that you pay them visit the next time you are in Ipoh. The ONLY right way to start the day when in Ipoh, have white coffee at Kedai Kopi Sin Yoong Long which is situated at 15A, Jalan Bandar Timah, 3000 Ipoh, a busy corner of the town due to many coffee shops around the area. What I’m trying to say is, to have coffee here, do prepare yourself to fight for a car spot because parking is a pain. This coffee shop only sells great coffee and a few other beverages to go with toasted bread with or without half boiled eggs and caramel custard which was pretty darn good. What food they don’t sell to satisfy your cravings, you can order from the opposite food stalls and ask them to deliver to you seated inside #sinyoongloong We had crispy Chinese pancakes which unfortunately were a bit too burnt for my liking but still tasty and bowls of curry mee delivered. All in all, it was a very traditional way of having breakfast which I sorely missed because my late grandpa used to take me to one a few doors away from our old house to drink coffee and have my toasted bread with butter and coconut jam which we called #rotikawin One thing to remember though, where there’s good coffee, there will be many people vying for your table so be kind to other customers by leaving once you’ve done eating. It’s the right thing to do too. Oh btw, this was our first day babysitting the new kid in the clan, “Miles Smiles”. For one who just got up after a 2 hour drive, Miles wasn’t grumpy at all. In 2 seconds after being passed to Nick, he was all smiles again. Could be that Uncle Nick’s infectious laugh got to him but seriously, baby Miles is one happy kid, everyone would love to cuddle and shower him with kisses. Ipoh, the capital of Perak was once a tiny village which experience a rapid growth thanks to the tin mining industry that started off in 1880. Its status grew and with it came the influx on population that expended the original boundaries. By 1895, it became the 2nd largest largest town within the Federated Malay States. Although tin mining is no longer a viable industry after its depletion in 1970’s, Ipoh has since enjoyed a prosperous growth and put itself on the tourist map as one of the must visit destination in Malaysia where one can explore Buddhist temples built inside limestone caves, admire beautiful #britisharchitecture of the buildings, sample its famous chicken rice and savoury biscuits or explore its famous theme park, #lostworldoftambun Even #lonelyplanet has a dedicated page on #ipoh and voted it as one of the best Asian destination to visit in 2016. Last minute decision to do a road trip to Ipoh because we can. Also, we were told that it’s a great place to retire in Malaysia where you can still get affordable houses and good food. The air does seem cleaner here and best of all, we have a personal tour guide to lead us to the best places for food. On top of that, we are meeting up with Perak‘s most aspiring young farmer, @azrulazmi0106 over some delicious food, so yes, this is one trip we were lucky to have. Head out to #kompassion for the best #thaifusion food in #kl We were invited by Andre and JingEn to join their family for dinner and of course to have our long awaited introduction to baby Miles. Kompassion proved to be the perfect restaurant that delivered everything that they promised in terms of flavours, portion and presentation. Great place for lunch or dinner with family but finding a parking spot can be a bit tricky. We parked way further up the residential area in front of the playground and walked a few metres to the restaurant. It was very hard to chose the dish of the night because they were all good but after much discussion, we decided upon the duck, nuts and pomelo salad because it was truly delicious on its own. Don’t forget to try their delicious fusion desserts too because they were a class of their own. Suria KLCC is Kuala Lumpur’s shopping Mecca and Malaysia’s version of Harrods in London. You can get your hands on many designer items for both men and women as they have an impressive line up from #karllagerfeld to #dior #gucci #tiffanys and many more. It has garnered a huge following of die hard shoppers and diners as the number of in house restaurants there are pretty impressive too. Nick and I wanted to check out the shopping vibe and of course to see for ourselves how much more the food at the #rasafoodarena would cost after one has exhausted most of their funds shopping. Predictable Nick settled for his favourite chicken rice that cost RM8.90 and I went for a plate of the famous #nasikandar that came with 5 types of dishes; fried chicken, beef rendang, stewed turmeric cabbage, pickled cucumber and hard boiled egg plus a glass of limau ais that came to RM22. The flavours we got from these dishes were spot on, close to excellent in fact, which was surprising coming from a food court catering to a large quantity of hungry shoppers. So if you are out and about in the great KL and want to seek respite in a sheltered environment after an exhausting day exploring Petronas Twin Towers that left you super hungry, why not check out #suriaklcc like we did. This is Nick, my partner in crime, my rock and strongest supporter of all my crazy adventures. Once a very shy boy, Nick has outgrown that side of him and is now a super outgoing guy who loves #durian the #kingoffruits which I had lost interest in because I fell so sick after overeating them, I was hospitalised for a week. It happened when I was a kid but the memory of having to take lots of medication and being on a drip lingered, so until today, I won’t eat them. So ladies and gents, if you want to know what makes a great marriage, this is it. The ultimate sacrifice to love and endure stinking burps, farts and snores of your partner plus even crack open the fruit so that he can continuously eat non stop. Love ya @nicktan.69 Btw, don’t you think Nick makes a great model for #durianss2 coz I think these photos speak louder than any words could on how much he was loving his time eating the fruit 😍Stay tuned for more stories on our #foodieroadtrip around #malaysia and #singapore by following @2nsinmelbourne #tripstagram #travelingcouple #travelgram #theresnoplacelikehome #tourismmalaysia #asianslovetoeat #malaysiatrulyasia #drivingaround #followme #airbnbtravel #instagood #instafood #instatravel #welcometokl #traveldiaries #wanderlust #exploremore #happywanderers #exploringmyhomecountry #kualalumpurmalaysia #explorekualalumpur #hesmyworld #myhusbandlovesdurian #cuticutimalaysia

With such a rich history being ruled by foreign powers and as the preferred trading port by sea traders, it is to no surprise that many of the foreigners fell in love with the local women and ended up calling Melaka their home. Most prominent among them were the Chinese traders and the middlemen acting between the British, Chinese and Malays whose inter-racial marriages to the local Malay women gave birth to children of #peranakan descent, known as #baba (male) and #nyonya (female). They normally adopt the local customs to assimilate themselves into the society, most famously known for wearing beautifully embroidered Nyonya Kebaya that has since been an icon for the nyonyas of Melaka. For all foodies out there, you should also take note that the Melaka Peranakans are also well known for their delicious cuisine and for that, we decided to pay homage to them by trying out the food at #nancyskitchen at Taman Kota Laksamana, Melaka. It was indeed a delight to try out an authentic Peranakan restaurant and to say that we had a blast was an understatement. We got ourselves a plate of “Pai Tee”, the Peranakan entry made of thin, crispy tart shell, filled with thinly sliced vegetables and poached prawns then topped with spicy, sweet sauce. For mains we got ourselves the “Nyonya Laksa” and for desserts, the traditional Nyonya kuih calked “ondeh ondeh” and “seri muka”. So satisfied with the food served, we decided to take home a few dishes, “pineapple & prawns in coconut broth”, “belacan four angled beans”, “deep fried fish fillet with spring onion” and the “nyonya chang” to share with Nick’s folks who couldn’t join us on this excursion. The prices we paid for these delicacies were so affordable, we wish we were hungrier so that we could try all the dishes. Thankfully, we do go home often, and there’s always a next time to try the rest. If you are a foodie who loves bold flavours, do yourselves a favour by trying out the Peranakan cuisine of Melaka. Best food money could buy yo! Stay tuned for more stories on our #foodieroadtrip around #malaysia and #singapore by following @2nsinmelbourne #cuticutimalaysia

When in Spain, one should try their paella but if you find yourself at #jonkerstreet #melaka the number one food that you must try is the #chickenriceball Hoe Kee is not known for their delicious chicken or for serving an extensive menu, yet, we decided that our next meal was to be there because one thing for sure, they are well known for their delicious and super tasty rice. Yup, you heard me right, we went there specifically for their rice. Might sound a bit weird but trust me, we have not lost our minds after walking all over #dutchsquaremelaka in the scorching sun. The truth is, we have heard so much about Hoe Kee’s tasty rice, we wanted to test for ourselves whether it was delicious enough to be eaten on its own. Boy oh boy, the rice came in perfect small balls and so tasty, they were indeed bloody good just on their own. To take the flavours to another level, enjoy the rice drizzled with sweet soy sauce and a healthy dose of chilli made specially for chicken rice. After all that walking and sweating out a storm, this was indeed a much needed meal to refuel our energy. It was hot and we were sweaty. On my mind there was only 1 thing that we must do that is to locate #jonker88 to try their #famouschendol Technically the shop wasn’t that hard to spot as its bright red banner awning flapped in the wind shading the few people queuing outside the shop waiting to get a table. If you have been following our journey, you’d know that we are not really the patient kind of people to wait around especially when a prized chendol is at stake! Nick told me that he saw people walked in to the back of the shop and off he went to investigate. Within 3 minutes, he reappeared with a bowl of chendol in his hand, drizzled with golden brown palm sugar syrup that seemed to call out to me “N, N, taste me quick”. Despite the many onlookers, Nick and I gobbled and slurped the whole bowl within seconds, all the while standing up. The verdict, the best tasting chendol we’ve had so far, served in its original form. The coconut milk was super creamy, strings of chendol slightly firm and springy and the palm sugar syrup superbly heavenly. The moment we finished the first bowl, Nick went back for another and that too, was gone in seconds. So folks, we hereby declare that all the raving reviews are totally legit and because of that you MUST visit Jonker88 for its amazing chendol the next time you are in Melaka. #asianslovetoeat and there’s nothing in life more glorious than being served freshly cooked seafood, you could practically see the steam drifting up as they carry the plates to your table. Salted egg crumbed squid, buttered prawns, steamed fish and chilli prawn paste vege were consumed within minutes yet their flavours lingered in our minds throughout the night. Need I say more? FYI this wasn’t cooked by a fancy restaurant with a big signboard but rather by a guy who’s trying to make ends meet looking after his 2 kids because his wife ran away with another man. I personally think the wife is loco for deserting a man who can cook as well as him because I would be contented to just eating salted egg crumbed seafood for the rest of my life! Well what can I say, one man’s meat is another man’s poison and the people of #portdickson is lucky that this guy is here to stay cooking up a storm for his loyal customers. The tiny place doesn’t really have a name and only known to locals so the next time my inlaws go over, I’ll ask them for the location details to update this post. Ahh #seremban The whole town is currently undergoing a major change in parking system resulting in free parking for now, which only means one thing - it’s pretty much impossible to find an off street car park in town unless you are planning to wait in your car for one to be vacant. Your wait could last between 1 minute to an hour or longer. For people like us who do not have the patience nor time to play the waiting game, we abandoned the original plan to have the famous #serembanbeefnoodles and instead head out to something that’s available at the shopping centre. #oldtownwhitecoffee serves a range of traditional delicacies in a fast food environment and we were surprised that they were pretty decent except for the dessert only because the ice shavings were too rough to absorb any of the syrup flavouring. Nevertheless, it was pleasant to be able to enjoy a simple meal in an aircond environment without the pressure of having to immediately vacate our seats for others waiting to have theirs. Our #assamlaksa was fragrantly delicious, the #currymee satisfyingly spicy and the #fishnoodle was tasty and fresh. For the prices that we paid in #ringgitmalaysia I would gladly have them everyday if it means I don’t have to crack my brains wondering what to cook. Our last breakfast in Muar with mom has to be at a place we all love. This is one place we know at heart that could guarantee the best tasting #satay that’s so tender and juicy, just one bite would send you to food heaven. Our favourite is the #satayperut because they are so soft they practically melt in your mouth. Among the 3 of us, we had 60 sticks altogether which of course would last us a few hours travelling on the road. And while there, don’t forget to grab yourselves a few bowls of their #sotoayam which is to be eaten with a few spoonfuls of the #sambalkicap We always save eating at #sataywarisanmuar till the end of our stay because we kinda want to #savethebestforlast The next time you are in Muar, this is definitely the place to start your day on the right note! I never realised how tough it is to do a dedicated #foodieroadtrip until now. The constant eating is of course wonderful but it’s also adding roundness around my tummy (mind you, if the roundness occur elsewhere, I wouldn’t be so judgemental😉). Nevertheless, I’m known to stick to what’s I’ve decided to do so off we went to check out #restoransuptulangzz for their supposedly famed #supgearbox and #meerebus Truthfully, although the Mee Rebus was pretty ok, the soup gearbox was a total failure simply because the shanks have not been boiled and stewed long enough for the meat to fall of the bone. I recommend that anyone that goes ZZ for this to ask the server to check whether the pieces can just fall off before proceeding to serve because we totally couldn’t get any meat from ours. Because of that, the soup itself didn’t have much taste and disappointment was apparent around the table. From ZZ we then moved on to #kacangpoolhaji and #abcspecial at the #tamandatoonn food court This time, everything was on point and all of us left with big smiles on our faces. Thank you to mom and her friends, Kak Kiah and her sister, Datin Yan for being our tour guides around JB. Totally appreciated🙏🏼. Who would have thought that people would queue up in hot humid weather just to get a plate of banana fritters? In Johor Bahru, Pisang Goreng Mawar has amassed itself a cult like following who would brave the intense heat or pouring rain to get their hands on these crispy golden perfectly fried banana fritters. Best of all, the place also sells many other traditional favourites like “stuffed fried tofu”, “nasi lemak”, “bubur pulut hitam” and a huge range of “kuih muih”. We scored ourselves a tasting plate and finished everything in minutes. Finger licking good was the verdict and if you ask me whether they were worth queuing up for, my answer is a solid YES! Oh how festive our first meal in #johorbahru was as we had a great time feasting on Restoran LC Catering’s fantastic fare of “Nasi Serai Udang” (Lemongrass Rice with Butter Prawns) and “Nasi Serai Rendang Daging” (Lemongrass Rice with Beef in Thick Coconut Gravy). We love the flavour but find the 3 tiny pieces of sambal squid served in the small side bowl is a bit too little. Nevertheless, there are many great choices on offer here which makes this place a fantastic place to have a family gathering or company dinner. And the drinks, oh my, look at the watermelon juice and air sirap Bandung that we ordered. They seriously tasted as delicious as the look in the picture. An overall great experience and definitely a great start to our gastronomical journey in Johor Bahru. So mom wanted to introduce us to a new eatery called Lepak Lepak which serves both traditional and a Western fusion food. Mom ordered their fried kueh tiaw, Nick had fried yellow noodles, our good friend, Dr. Freddy Gan had the lamb chop and I ordered the chicken chop. Lamb chop was on the tough side for being grilled too long but everything else was spot on. Nice friendly service and Nick had requested for super “kau” which is loosely translated to super concentrated iced Milo and he was so surprised when they actually delivered exactly that. Very affordable and good friendly service from beginning to the end. Give them a holla the next time you are back in Muar. #foodieroadtrip #imasuckerforfood #asianslovetoeat #bangsajohor #muarfood #tourismmalaysia #eatandbehappy #muarjohor #malaysiatrulyasia #foodbassador #malaysianrestaurant #muarbandardiraja #followme #airbnbtravel #instafood #instagood #traveldiaries #wanderlust #eataroundtheworld #foodcoma #cuticutimalaysia

“Air Pear” which translates to “pear water” is something we Muarians grew up drinking. It is nothing close to pear juice. More like water mixed with pear syrup which probably has high concentration of sugar that is not too healthy, yet everyone who lives outstation or abroad will dutifully have a glass of it every time they go home to #muar The shop sells fruits and has been run by the same family and they were surprised when I took some photos to the extend of asking my mom what was happening. When I told them that both Nick & I missed drinking the water so much and wanted something to remind us of the shop, they started smiling and even asked us to go home more often. When back in Muar and craving for a full selection of traditional Malay #kampungdishes head out to Restoran Intan at Tanjung Agas where you will be blown away by their range. Our only problem was to decide on which to chose because everything looked so good. Oh and the verdict, super finger licking good. On point with the different flavours which made each dish stands out and leaving us wanting more. A must try for foodies but make sure you head there early to get the best because they usually sold out by mid afternoon. #foodieroadtrip #goodeats #imasuckerforfood #asianslovetoeat #bangsajohor #muarfood #sotasty #tourismmalaysia #eatandbehappy #muarjohor #malaysiatrulyasia #eatwithpassion #foodbassador #malaysianrestaurant #hochiak #muarbandardiraja #followme #airbnbtravel #instafood #instagood #traveldiaries #wanderlust #deliciousfood #eataroundtheworld #foodcoma

Both our moms were good friends so that makes @lovictorian my oldest friend even before we started kindy. And this great lady is one accomplished superwoman having succeeded in her career and as a mother of two. So proud of her and it was a miracle that we got to catch up for a short while over #satay and #lontong at “Chop Tin Sang Long” before her trip to France. Can’t think of a better way to enjoy #muar traditional breakfast than with those whom matter most. Have you tasted #oldchangkee latest invention, the Nasi Lemak Chicken Currypuff aka #nasilemakchickeno Well, if you have not, do make your way to any of the Old Chang Kee outlets in Singapore to give it a try. Well, this is it, the icing on the cake for #ourtampineshub has got to be the Hawker Centre with so many stalls catering to a wide range of taste buds. We just couldn’t get past the fruit rojak $5.50, fried kueh teow noodles with cockles $4.00, nan platter $6.90, Hainanese Chicken Rice $3.50, Durian ABC (shaved ice dessert) $2.50 and Leng Chee Kang $1.80! It is safe to say that you can have a good feast for a friction of the price from Singapore #foodcourt #simplyloveit #asianslovetoeat #tripstagram #travelgram #tripphoto #noborders #bestholiday #traveldiary #tripadvisor #exploreasia #airbnbtravel #passportlife #visitsingapore #yoursingapore #amazingcountries #ilovesingapore #exploretheworld #instatravel #exploremore #newadventures #traveladdict #exploretogether #bbctravel #escapeordinary #womentravel #travellingcouple #happytravels #enjoythejourney #wanderlust #travelbug #goodcheapeats #everythingunderoneroof

When you love what you do, you automatically do it well. Serving an Asian one pot wonder and #homegrownfigs for dinner was a hit. Best of all, the fresh homemade fried shallots from @qbeez22 added an amazing fragrant and a crunchy element to an already tasty dish. I was told it was a spoon licking good meal and that kind of remark was enough to leave me singing the rest of the night. #melbournefoodie #goodfood #homecooking #onlyinmelbourne #cookedwithlove #tastyfood #bestfoodpics #asianslovetoeat #dinnerwithme #lovemyfood #yestofood #followme #comeeatwithme #melbournegirl #instalike #instafood #ricecookerchickenrice #imnotachef #greatfood #asianonepotwonder #whybuywhenyoucancook #homecookeddinner #hungrymate #airbnbmelbourne #airbnbhomes #airbnbhost #airbnbopen #icookyoueat #palmoilfree

How do you serve the humble “Maggie mee goreng” aka fried instant noodles? Well, at my place, the moment we decide to have instant noodles, our mood will always turn festive. FESTIVE, yup, you heard me. Back in Malaysia, we grew up eating instant noodles. Back then, no one cares about calories or harmful wax coating on the noodles. Life was simple. Fast forward 40 years when our lives are restraint by fear associated with the things we eat or do, both Nick & I still caved to our childhood favourite like fried instant noodles once in a while but always served with a twist. So last night it was fried instant noodles loaded with garlic, chillies, seafood tofu and bean shoots served with chunks of tomatoes, baby rockets, dry curry chicken, fried egg and crispy shallots from the @qbeez22 range of products for that added oomph. Was it good? Well, my stomach did the happy dance and @nicktan.69 said no divorce letter will be in the mail for the next 6 months if I continue to serve up food like this😉 #melbournefoodie #goodfood #homecooking #onlyinmelbourne #cookedwithlove #tastyfood #bestfoodpics #asianslovetoeat #dinnerwithme #lovemyfood #yestofood #followme #comeeatwithme #melbournegirl #instalike #instafood #drycurrychicken #imnotachef #greatfood #friedinstantnoodles #whybuywhenyoucancook #homecookeddinner #hungrymate #airbnbmelbourne #airbnbhomes #airbnbhost #airbnbopen #icookyoueat
