“Submergence” was my favorite exhibit at San Diego’s @wonderspaces art installation. The artist is Squid Soup (@squidie). We walked through this several times and I took photos from several places. The whole experience changes based on your perspective. Thanks, @joeyshin1, for the recommendation!

POD2 is one of 12 works in her ‘Strange Fruit’ sculpture series created to celebrate the revival and revitalization of Aboriginal cultural practices across Australia. POD2 replicates the seedpod of the Australian gum-tree. The seedpod being the ‘womb’ for the potential of new growth via the scattering and burning of seeds through the agency of wind and fire. It references the resilience of Aboriginal culture and the hope that Australians be enriched by the fifty thousand years of wisdom and knowledge of Australia’s first nations people.
The She-oak, used to fire Latham’s cermic sculptures, is sacred to the Yamatji women of Western Australia.
POD 2, 2014

Denver Art Museum is known for its collection of American Indian Art and it currently has Eyes On exhibition by Julie Buffalohead who is a citizen of the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma. "A Little Medicine and Magic" was the first one I saw and I fell in love with her work. She uses metaphors, iconography, and storytelling narratives in her artwork to describe emotional and subversive American Indian cultural experiences, and often analyses the commercialization of American Indian cultures.
"In this painting, Coyote seems to tell the skunks (who symbolise the Medicine clan) to drop her purse. Buffalohead says this painting illustrates the battle women face in embracing or resisting characteristics associated with being female. Lipstick, purses dresses - are these choices or are they imposed? In the past, Ponca men who accomplished many war deeds could have a young woman of their own choice tattooed with star-shaped "honor marks", which are here drawn in lipstic on the skunks' bodies".
I want to be a millionaire and travel the rest of my days. Longing to be abroad and yet so happy to be back in the states to slip away and visit my peoples!!! Special thanks to @careful_is_my_middle_name for all the beautiful crazy workouts this far. Miss you always and your just inside. -
Late last week I finished these three pieces and plan on releasing them this Saturday. As I work on larger compositions over the next month, I figured it would be nice to make a few smaller sizes available as well. Plus, they’re framed + ready to hang ✨
