Repost from @byjoeecheong using @RepostRegramApp - Check out my new handmade rattan bag. Clearly day dreaming of the day we can go to Bali and can’t wait for that to happen. Painted some beach colours for watercolour study first (; and don’t forget to use my code “JOEE10” for discount when you purchase this soothing and hydrating face mist from @organictouchmalaysia to cool your face when you head to the beach! •
Catch me on my insta stories for today’s high tea event by @bioessence_my!
A pile of bespoke homes sketched, inked, calligraphed, and ready to be painted tomorrow 😅
I really love the 8x10 and 11x14 (and NEW 12x16!) versions of these house portraits. Working on a larger scale is more fun! How do you feel about the scale of artwork in your house? The bigger the better?
Amazing sketch by @jennarainey
Sketching has always been my first love. In school, I always doodled instead of taking notes. It helped me listen...I’d sketch flowers, write names in cursive and eyeballs! Alllll over my papers! That definitely helped in developing muscle memory, but because I didn’t go to art school, I had to learn the technical stuff on my own and through lots of research. What’s really transformed the way I sketch is translating each subject into its basic shapes and lightly sketching, circles, ovals, cones, etc. before actually putting in the contour of the subject. It’s a guide! I’m so excited to show you guys more of this process in my next book! I cover 6 different floral shapes and multiple flowers for each shape in both a loose and realistic watercolor style. This piece I’m sketching is for a section on floral composition where I cover the importance of the zig zag and rule of thirds! This book doesn’t come out until spring 2019, but get excited. There’s SO much good info packed into this thing. Adding watercolor to this sketch next, which with the values I’ll be using, you won’t see the sketch underneath. You can’t get rid of pencil lines once you add paint on top, so keep that in mind! Using a @faber_castell_br 4B pencil on @legionpaper Stonehenge aqua coldpressed paper! What’s YOUR favorite thing to doodle?! #jennarainey#watercolor#watercolour#art#artwork#paint#painting#sketch#goodmorningart#art_daily#watercolorflorals#floralwatercolor#instagood#instadaily#dailyart#leafwatercolor#top_watercolor#artistic_nation#arts_promoter#wewholeart#buzzfeedart#artistic#sketch#drawing#fabercastell
Played around with some floral patterns today before diving into a week full of client projects!
I also started my first @watercolorsummit lesson this morning, and I am SO excited the summit is finally here. I registered months ago when it was first announced, because some of my favorite artists on Instagram are teaching in the summit, and the classes are for all levels! I completely agree with their mantra #neverstoplearning and believe it is super important to not only practice and hone your craft, but to continually challenge yourself with new subjects and techniques. I am so excited for everything I will learn over the next couple of weeks from these amazing artists!
I love "buckling" up the water when using watercolor in my illustrations. After it dries, it's fun to see how the color evolved & what the final piece looks like. Here is the beginning of that process. :)
