Before the 18th century most artist didn’t title their paintings, and this painting is an example of how the later titles can sometimes cause misinterpretations for centuries, even forever ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

‘Two Cows and a Young Bull beside a Fence in a Meadow’

Paulus Potters paintings of animals, particularly cattle in the pastoral settings, were consistently sought after in a period when landownership was very prestigious. Collectors who maintained the lifestyle of a country gentleman, even if their fortunes were based on trade, appreciated Potters afire observation of nature and his sensitivity to atmospheric effects. Potter painted this exquisitely panel in the same year as his most renowned work, the monumental Young Bull in the Mauritshuis, The Hague. Both feature a powerful young bull, but here, rather than permitting one creature to dominate the scene, the artist created a dynamic group silhouetted against a cloud-swept sky.
@roni.neumark Whilst in Vienna last week we visited the celebrated Jewish Museum which exhibited many moving exhibits of former bad times. One unexpected pleasure was this Silkscreen print depicting the famous psychologist, Sigmund Freud. It is part of a series by Andy Warhol entitled ‘Ten portraits of Jews of the 20th Century’ . It is a curious cubist mixture of colours - very typical of the artist’s work. It was first shown by Warhol at the Jewish Museum, New York, in 1980 #jewishmuseum#vienna#sigmundfreud#andywarhol#fairheadfineart 🇬🇧
0 değerli çoban,
her zaman hareket halinde olan.
Büıün soluk alanların başı,
yol göstericisi (kral),
Prensliğini var etti,
Kutsal tacı başına koydu . .
Gökyüzü - tek prensi odur;
yeryüzü - en yücesi odur,
Anunnakiler - ulu tanrısıdır onların;
Tüm haşmetiyle yazgıları belirlediğinde,
Hiçbir tanrı ona bakmaya cesaret edemez .
Yalnızca ulu veziri , mabeyinci Nusku'ya,
Emirlerini, yüreğinden geçeni açtı,
Her şeyi içeren buyruklarını yerine getirmekle görevlendirdı,
Bütün kutsal kuralları, bütün kutsal yasaları ona emanet etti.
Koca Dağ, Enli! olmaksızın,
Hiçbir kent kurulmaz, hiçbir ev yapılmazdı,
Hiçbir ahır kurulmaz, hiçbir ağıl çatılınazdı,
Hiçbir kral yükselmez, hiçbir soylu rahip doğmazdı,
Hiçbir mah-rahip, hiçbir soylu-rahibe koyun-kehanetiyle seçilmezdi,
işçilerin ne idarecisi, ne denetçisi olmazdı,
Irmakların coşkun suları dolup taşmazdı,
Denizin balıkları sazlıklara yumurta bırakmaz,
Göğün kuşları engin yeryüzüne yuva kurmazdı,
Gökyüzünde sürüklenen bulutlar nemlerini indirmez,
Ovaların gururu bitkiler ve otlar filizlenmezdi,
Tarlalar ve çayırlarda zengin tahıllar yeşermez,
Dağ ormanlarında yetişen ağaçlar yemişlerini vermezlerdi . . . .

Studio Drift, Shylight, 2014, Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. @my_favorite_work_of_art
Studio Drift was founded in 2007 by Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta. The designers met while students at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, where they graduated in 2005. Their passion for nature, science fiction and technology blends in their site-specific installations and interactive sculptures. To translate their concepts into a final result they often work closely with researchers, programmers, engineers and other experts, always encouraging their partners to push the boundaries of technology. The result is an aesthetic, harmonious synthesis of the natural and the technical. The oeuvre of Studio Drift investigates the fluctuating relationships between nature, technology, and man. Their work engages with themes such as the illusion of freedom, the individual versus the group, and the tension between the real and the virtual world. Many of their installations are interactive, making the viewer a participant in the work. The works’ tranquil beauty invites us to pause and experience the wonder and stillness of what is unfolding. This moving light installation, designed by Studio Drift, combines nature and technology poetically. Certain types of flowers close at night, for self-defence and to conserve their resources. This highly evolved natural mechanism is called ‘nyctinasty’ and inspired Studio Drift to create Shylight; a sculpture that unfolds and retreats in a fascinating choreography, mirroring that of real flowers. Light tumbles from its cocoon, unfolds and glides down thanks to a system of refined technology. The calyxes are made from white silk. The installation was purchased by the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
