I’ve had the idea for this self portrait for months so it’s really rewarding to finally have the finished product. The color scheme did NOT end up how I imagined it in my mind but I’m obsessed with how the orange background shakes things up. I really can’t stay away from warm colors even when that’s my game plan. Like whose idea was the yellow shirt??
Insight into my personal art collection: Since opening my gallery in 2012, I focus on purchasing works mainly by the artists I exhibit and love, such as this sculptural wall object by Nicolò Baraggioli (“HTIK”, 2018, pink, painted plexiglass sheet on an L shaped black plexiglass clamp, 22,5 x 15 x 5,5 cm). Artist statement Baraggioli (*1985 in Genoa): “My work expands outward from a central point of minimalism, into a world of texture, colour, and material. I am interested in investigating the concept of space, boundary and the aesthetics. My works are representations of that exploration. Focusing mainly on painting, producing minimal abstract works using a combination of materials and a variety of different types of paint creating separate dialogues about simplicity and rigorousness, these works often reference found compositions as well as interests outside of art, such as philosophy, Greek mythology, movies, classical music and nature. Within the work there is an attempt to find the perfect balance, to embrace the idea of beauty and abstraction in their most intrinsic connotations.” #nicolobaraggioli @n.baraggioli_art
**The end is near!**
Four designs done, only one more to go! But which one do you think it is? Give me your best guess in a comment below!
It's been 10 days since I sat down at the computer to give five photographs a little polish before entering them into the @wraptious autumn competition...last Wednesday! 10 days in which I learned a lot about picture editing, various computer programs, file formats and just how bad I am at estimating time scales.
Overall it's been a pleasant experience, kind of fun but also a little stressful. I'm grateful for all I've learnt and even if I don't make it into the second round because of entering this late, it'll be OK because of the knowledge I am taking away from this.
Thank you to everyone who keeps asking about my progress and to those who are ready to vote the moment my entry drops. You guys are awesome!
So, which painting do you think I'm working on for the 5th design?
All will be unveiled shortly so stay tuned and make sure to follow @tanjahassel_art to stay up to date!

From #MarkBradford to #HenryTaylor and #JacobLawrence , African American artists made a splash during @sothebys Contemporary sale this week. Both Taylor and Lawrence achieved auction records for their works, while Bradford cinched over $3 million for a work included in a retrospective for the artist. Pictured here: Taylor's "I’ll Put a Spell on You" (2004), which sold for $975,000.
