But what is an apothecary?
It’s a community. .
It’s a place of healing.
It’s a person who has an understanding of herbs, their medicinal properties, and their uses to help those around them achieve great health!
Spikenard was discovered by the Ancient Egyptians, used as a luxurious aromatic and was used to anoint Cleopatra and King Tut’s tomb. In India, Spikenard was used in Ayurvedic practices to calm the mind.
In the Bible, Spikenard was used by Mary Magdalene to anoint Jesus’ feet before his burial. To anoint the feet with Spikenard was considered a humbling act, and in Mary’s case, an act of worship and appreciation for Jesus.
It's favored for spiritual journeys to the Otherworld and said to be helpful in dream work and astral travel. This is a grounding herb and worn as an amulet it can attract good fortune
This herb is associated with calmness, in respect to this; it is used to bring back peace and joy to those in grievance and pain.

In learning about tarot, I have also learned a lot about ritual and grounding. Pulling the cards is has become a pivotal part of my life in looking for guidance or in helping me meditate. Most mornings I pull a card, journal about it, and then carry the medicine of that card with me throughout the day. All of the pieces i make are dyed using natural materials, infused with the healing properties of those plants and also with the healing properties of tarot so that you can wear the medicine that I provide.
Can you believe this?! it's almost the end of October, soon Xmas will be here and then another year will arrive!!!?! 😱😱😱 Time really goes by soo fast!! 😯 sometimes when I don't get into sleep, i woukd try to think about all the little adventures i was lucky to have in the year, and also think about the difficulties and sad stuff i came across.. 🙈🙈🙈 then I woukd get all determined to make better life choices and create more adventures for myself!! then I would realise 💩 only so little time left this year and get all stressed out about all the exciting things I might not get to do (although I am not dying lol)😱😱 see, actually I have put myself into a bad loop that doesn't do any help to getting myself into sleep lol 🙄😆🙈 well actually I just wanna recommend a book that I've been reading these days ~the subtle art of not giving a fuck~ by Mark Manson! I'm almost half way through it and I'm liking what I've been reading so far! very unusual perspectives which I would like to try on myself!! 😎 📚
Other than the book, of course you should totally check out my Organic Sleep Fix, which is an oil serum handblended with organic essential oils and resins only (Lavender, Hay, Chamomile, Neroli, Frankincense & more) to help you destress and get into sleep more easily and have better sleep quality in a natural and safe way!! the best treat (ok maybe one of the best haha) you can get for yourself and your loved ones really!!😌✌(the made to order rollerball is available through Petal in the Mail subscription, which means free (international) shipping🌿) 📮
My own practice is doing abit of yoga, and then applying the oil and drinking some herbal tea, and then reading a chapter or two of some non novel stuff and then applying again the oil then going to sleep 😋👶✌ #sleep#reading#relax#tea#book#aromatherapy#honey from @contrse 💐💕
Fun Fact #4 :
I enjoy writing ✎
When I was in grade school, I liked having writing assignments. That to me was my time to shine and show my teacher that I am creative and unique. This was also a exciting learning experience where I would look forward to receiving the teachers feed back/ edits showing me where to improve. Fortunately/ unfortunately, I could now be considered one of those “grammar police”, big thanks to Mrs.Mizell. This is only because I enjoy the written word with such passion. Contradictory enough, I hate reading....books. I LOVE researching and fact finding! Things like, reading about world healers and their experiences with ayahuasca. Reading about self taught herbalists creating their own apothecaries and the steps they took to mixing up a salve. Even enjoy reading through articles discussing what travel necessities you should bring on a hike in the Philippines.
I say that to say, when I write, I try to write in a way that whoever may read it, and read like myself, can experience the words that have a challenging meaning as something you’re dying to discover. For me, it’s a fun way to express my creativity and I love giving someone the opportunity to come up with their own perception of what is written. I write to give the reader more to think about, as if it is tailored to each individual.
This was a poem I wrote earlier this year in the midst of waking up in the middle of the night. I found it hard to sleep but beautiful Luna was outside my window and immediately I felt I had to meditate to clear my mind of what felt like bees swarming cluttering my mental rest. I then had a need to pick up my phone to open notes (which I typically never do) and just started writing. I prefer paper and pencil as this lets my hand flow freely but hey, letting it fly! As I wrote, I could feel that each line came from deep within. After only about 15 mins, I realized I had just created a poem... There are several underlying meanings in this poem but several different ways to perceive them. So I hope you enjoy discovering and reading through this as much as I enjoyed writing it. ✰ ✰
We are all about quick and easy meals in our house. Quick and easy doesn’t have to mean low nutrition and empty carbs. This root veg + cous cous salad with fire cider vinaigrette took no time to whip up because I planned ahead and roasted the veggies yesterday knowing that I’d be short on time today. We are packing up our house to refinish our hardwood floors, yay for DIY. When the dust settles I’ll be updating the new (very humble, excuse my lack of web design skills) humble harvest blog with some of my favorite autumn recipes. In the meantime, check out my first post on how to make your own fire cider via the link in my bio.
Hi there, please meet my friend, fellow herbalist, homesteader, wife and mama Devon Young aka @nittygrittymama 💞
I adore the crap out of this woman. We met here on Instagram over a fraudulent account pilfering our pics and claiming them as their own. Devon contacted me to help me protect myself and our combined efforts conquered the picture pilfers! 💪🏻 and I’ve sort of kept her ever since 💞
Feisty gals seem to attract one another 😂
But that’s not the point, although it does exhibit how awesome she is overall.
Come a little closer....I have some B I G news. .
SHE WROTE A BOOK 📖 🙌🏻!!!! .
It’s all about herbs, healing and empowering yourselves. .
And YOU want it on your bookshelf, trust me.
I’m not sharing any more details, you need to follow this incredible woman for that 😉. Raw, honest and integral. Likely exactly what you need in your IG feed.
Stay tuned for Spring 2019... 📚 release to come!!! .

After several weeks and many hours of work, my Halloween shadow box is done! There’s 10 pics, so zoom in on all the details! I don’t have a lot of free time between now and the first of the year, so I wanted to do one fairly large project for Halloween this season. I’m expecting to do the same for November and December. This project ended up being something of a love letter to @tim_holtz because roughly 85% of these materials and objects are from his various crafting collections. The many miscellaneous items in most of the scenes, the wallpapers, and the metal filigree accents are all Tim’s products from his standard and seasonal lines. In my graveyard and Haunted Mansion scenes, the shovel & axe respectively are made from @instamorph_team’s amazing moldable plastics! First time using it, and it was tricky but successful. The Bride’s gown was largely created from a 3D sticker I tore apart, and Tim’s distress ink. The mirror in the magic study scene was altered with distress crackle paint I found in a random drawer! All the papers and spells on the walls are from EverAfterMiniatures on @etsy. The bouquet, side table, fortune teller’s furniture, the hot glue spider eggs, the red skull candle, the hanger, and the ouija board with planchette were entirely made by me from scratch. Whew. The Oil Cleansing Method
Everyone desires glowing, acne free skin.
Contrary to popular belief that slathering oil on an already oily face just makes no sense. Ever heard the phrase 'oil dissolves oil'?
The #Oil Cleansing Method (OCM) uses clean oil and steam to dissolve the oil and other impurities which have clogged the pores.
Recommended oil for the #OCM is castor oil because of its immense healing and cleansing properties as well as its emollient, anti inflammatory, antibacterial and anti acne properties.
However, because of the heaviness of this very beneficial oil, you may prefer to dilute with a lighter weight oil such as almond oil.
Suggested blend: 20% castor:80% almond.
This can be varied with your skin type as desired.
Personally, I like to use my castor oil as is.
Directions: *Spritz or pour some of the oil blend into your palm * Rub palms together and massage slowly into the face * Give it some time so that the clean oil works its way into your pores * Soak a face cloth in 'very warm to hot' water * Place the face cloth over your face and wipe the oil off * Rinse out your face cloth under 'very warm to hot' water again, squeeze and wipe face a second time *Wash your face with warm water and a gentle face wash * Your face must now feel squeaky clean, fresh, glowing and tight as the impurities clogging your pores have been dissolved and wiped off * If you find that your skin feels a tad too tight, you may rub in a little face oil or moisturizer
The Oil Cleansing Method....perfect for every skin type

Today we have healing. Time to heal anything that is pulling you to be healed. Whether its relationships, friendships, family, or most of all, yourself. Give your energy to your healing and allow time to do its magic. Healing is a process, it doesn’t happen overnight. But as you heal, you will begin to feel the strength and the clarity that comes with it. Don’t lose hope and don’t give up on yourself. One day you will see how truly amazing your journey has been, and even through the rough days, you will find smiles. Blessed be

Ghosts, guides, fairies, goddesses and gods may seem mysterious, but these entities have been appearing in our lives since the beginning. Their names have been showing up in children's literature, in ghost stories and folklore for generations. Before that, some were deities worshipped by indigenous cultures whose voices were silenced and often forgotten. In modern day they inspire medical terminology, the names of pharmaceutical drugs and advertisements. These spirits are the friends of witches, intuitives, fortune tellers and those who visit other realms.
Their story may have evolved over time, perhaps the spelling of the name changed and the pronunciation no longer correct, but they should be honored just the same. Petition them at thresholds and ask them to point you in the right direction when at crossroads. Share with them your secrets and listen to your intuition when asking for favors. Look for answers in dreams, in symbols or in meditation.
Relationships with spirits should be mutually beneficial; you both will work for what you receive.
Doing the research for this book opened up a direct connection with the spirits that have always been present in my day-to-day life. They had been quietly waiting for me to say hello for so many years. Many thanks to my sisters @tamedwild for their faith in my ability to take on such important projects 🙏🏼

Forgiveness. I have mindfully chosen the rich colored herbs for the healing of the heart, throwing in any others that I felt inspired to include. There are days that we need to heal our hearts by forgiving the world, forgiving others and most of all forgiving ourselves.
My forgiving heart healing brew includes, roses, the beautiful red pineapple sage, echinacea, oxeye daisy, elderberry blossom, mullein and horsetail.
I sit sipping my tea and offer up gratitude for the ability to be able to soften my heart and offer forgiveness. This opens up a space for love to flow and keeps the unwelcome energies of anger to build up in my body. Be well, love and hugs, jonnie dee #tsht#touchsomeoneshearttoday#openyourheart
