It's so simple to power things with USB and I strongly advocate using rechargable batteries (eneloop batteries are the best; trust me, they are incredible). It's better for the environment and saves piles of cash. And who wants to be stuck at an outlet these days?
Rechargeable USB battery packs are a must for me. People are skeptical because inferior battery packs have flooded your local store, cost a small fortune and perform like sh*t... I get it, once you get duped into paying $70 for a battery pack that doesn't stay charged and can't top off your phone more than a couple times, they feel like a scam.
I wish I were paid by Anker to plug their battery packs. Been using them for 6 years now and they completely kick ass. They are priced better than their competition. Built better than their competition. They also last longer, work better and look better than the competition. They are the best kept secret and should be a staple of every electronics using household.
This is my on-going sales pitch for these battery packs. Trust me, use your Prime shipping and this will be the best $40 - $60 you have ever spent. Ever.
It almost looks like I know what I'm doing! I don't know why making USB power supplies satisfies me so much. This isn't complex or clever. It didn't take me much time and anyone could make this. Regardless, building things, especially useful things makes me happy.
But why did I build this power supply???? My channel headphone amp was the only thing that needed a wall socket in my audio setup. Of course it took some non-standard power plug using 12 volts. However, by reading the output on the plug, I saw it only consumed 200ma. I have a bunch of inexpensive ($2.60 USD) DC-DC boosters (XL6009) that can take 5V and pump it up to a crazy 32V. The little booster I used is really efficient and the output voltage is adjustable. Plus, even though the booster costs less than $3, it can supply up to 4A which is really good and way more than enough for what I needed. Cheap project box, an LED on/off switch and a few cable glands turned inside out and I now have a way to run my headphone amp from a USB battery pack (Anker brand @anker_official of course). #anker#usb#battery#batterypowered#dailymaker#usmaker#maker#makerstuff#led#audiosetup#amps#powersupply#buildit#makestuff#simpleproject#tryit#youcandoit#awesomesimple#handbuilt#basementworkshop#satisfied#satisfaction#voltage#powered
