Wildlife Wednesday
I'm going to be doing a look into animal conservation and learning and sharing information I have learned in an effort to make people more aware and appreciate if the wildlife we still do have in this world.
New studies have come to show that there may be as little as 3200 tigers left in the wild in 2010. Their population is only 7% of their original numbers and in the previous 10 years has dropped an astounding 40%. Factors causing this include deforestation and mass poaching for their skins which are used to make ridiculous expensive clothing and body parts used in 'traditional Asian medicine'. Massive conservation efforts have been made and recent information states the tiger numbers globally have increased to 3890 tigers. You can help this positive trend by refusing to buy animal fur products and products produced from tigers.
Additionally, visit
donate.wwf.org.au/Help/Tigers
And learn more about conservation and there is a donation option and is another way to help.

Our zookeeper, Ryan, has been working with King Vulture, Aztec, for several years and has seen much improvement in his behavior and their relationship! ❤️ Aztec is Zoo Miami’s 53 year-old King Vulture. He came to #ZooMiami in 1999 from Birmingham Zoo at the age of 34 and quickly became a guest and staff favorite due to his brilliant coloration and equally colorful personality. Although he is one of the oldest King Vultures in the United States, Aztec is still a fantastic and charismatic representative of all vultures.
King Vultures are not native to the United States, but are found throughout Central and South America. Like all other vultures, the King Vulture is a scavenger, meaning that their diet consists of carrion. While they have excellent eyesight, their sense of smell is not highly developed. Because of this, they rely on smaller vultures that have a better sense of smell to locate a carcass. King Vultures have an incredibly strong beak designed for tearing into the tough hide of a carcass. King Vultures mate for life and lay one egg in a nest in the ground that both parents will care for. Chicks hatch with completely black feathers, skin and beak and do not get the white feathers and brightly colored head until they are about 5-years-old. Males and females of this species look identical to one another in both size and coloration. Natural predators include snakes, which prey upon eggs and chicks, and jaguars, which may predate upon adult birds. Many theories surround the name “King Vulture”, one of the more interesting ones is that the ancient Mayans believed that the King Vulture was a messenger between the gods and humans!

Nile Crocodile
Crocodilus Niloticus

Second only in size to the Saltwater Crocodile, the Nile crocodile is Africa's largest reptile and one of the lardgest reptiles alive today. The most common of Africa's crocodiles, the Nile crocodile is found in nearly all of Sub Saharan Africa's freshwater bodies. However, recent genetic tests show that crocodiles found in West Africa and the Congo previously believed to be Nile crocs actually represent their own species, the West African crodile (Crocodilus suchus). Nile crocodiles are abush predator, floating log-like at the waters edge before suddenly lunging and seizing their victim. The prey is then pulled under to drown before being dismembered and devoured in large chunks removed with the "death-roll". Although they primarily feed on fish and small antelopes, animals of considerable size are also known to be taken. Buffalo, giraffes, hippos, rhinoceras, and even elephants have been attacked. Nile crocodiles often congregate in large groups at basking sites or regular kill locations such as river crossings. The large males rank highest in dominance with juveniles ranking lowest.
*The crocodiles of the Seychelles islands were once believed to be Nile Crocodiles, but have been proven to actually be Saltwater crocodiles.
Length: 10 - 20 ft (3-6 m)
Weight: 880 - 1,760 (400 - 800 kg)
Status: LEAST CONCERN

DID YOU KNOW... A Wombat's main line of defense is their toughened posterior.
When running away from predators, wombats rely on their super-powered rumps to protect them.
Their rear-ends are mostly cartilage, which makes them more resistant to bites and scratches. At the end of a chase, wombats will dive into their burrows and block the entrance with their butts. They’re also capable of using their powerful backs to crush the skulls of intruders against the roofs of their burrows.

Wanting a Tarantula?🕸🕷 There are over 800 known species of Tarantulas, so don't worry if you're feeling overwhelmed!
Caring for a Tarantula is fairly simple, but there are some things to keep in mind.
First, everyone has their own reccomendation on what makes the "best starter Tarantula". Here's my two reccomendations:
🕷Chilean Rose Hair (Grammostola rosea) and/or Antilles Pinktoe (Avicularia versicolor)🕷 The Rose Hair is a classic pet Tarantula, but in my experience is really just kind of boring. They're beautiful, docile, fairly hearty and usually eat well, but again they aren't very active. With any variety of Pink Toes, you'll get the same beauty, calm demener and hearty-ness, but they seem to be a little moody and somewhat inactive durring molting and premolting. Obviously, do your own research and make the choice on your Tarantula yourself, those are just my suggestions!
Second, make sure you have the right tank set up. Keep the humidity levels high, don't put them in a cold spot (They mostly come from tropical areas, so keep that in mind), use a good substraite, give them places to hide and don't put anything in with them that could poke or hurt them.
Third, feed them 1-2 times a week with gut loaded crickets. Don't leave uneaten crickets in the cage with your spider. Make sure they have water and you remove any molts from their cage.
Forth, treat your spider with respect. They do have fangs, they can bite you, and It is possible you can have a reaction to the bite. Be very careful when handling your Tarantula. If they fall, it can hurt or even kill them. Also, if your spider seems to be getting ready to molt, don't handle them. They're more sensitive and definitely more irritable.
Remember to do your research before bringing home any new animal friends!
Thanks for reading🕸

Some snakes like to bath but some don't. It is good to bath snakes because if they have a small water bowl and they are a big snake, they wont be as hydrated as they are supposed to be. If they aren't hydrated, when you stroke their scales with your hand going to their head, their scales will pinch your fingers and will feel like an insanely rough carpet and trust me, it doesn't feel nice at all. Snakes also feel a lot more comfortable pooping in water. Im not sure why this is but at least they don't poop on you! Follow me @_corn_snakes_ for more information on corn snakes and maybe pythons! Cat bite update!
This is the bite area three days later, as you can see it’s infected, swollen, and discoloured. >>>> swipe to see the antibiotics I’m on. They’re HUGE and POWERFUL. I also had to get a tetanus shot (I couldn’t remember if mine was up to date) and a topical ointment.
I got a couple of messages and comments about the bite, so I just want to clarify a few things.
1. I don’t blame the cat. Yes, I was trying to help but they were in fight or flight mode and despite their warning signals I was cocky about my handling ability and didn’t take proper precautions.
2. The cat has all their shots, this is not a case of rabies / toxoplasmosis / ringworm / parasitic infection or anything else. This is a classic cat bite bacterial infection. Every single cat bite may result in this. They harbour bacteria in their mouths for this exact purpose. If they don’t kill their prey or rival immediately the idea is the infection will do it for them.
3. Any animal can bite. Cats, dogs, birds rodents, lizards, amphibians, even fish. Proper handling does reduce this possibility, but never eliminates it. Watch for warning signals, show respect, and understand that when working with animals it is ultimately your fault if you get bit. Never blame the animal. Always seek medical attention.

I hope this has all been informative for people, and cleared up some questions. Hi just wanted to say a few words to new pet owners or anyone who owns any kind of animal please please do not trust or take any information that pet store workers give you on animals to heart I'm not saying all pet store workers are like this most I've encountered are and please don't think just because they work in a pet store that they know how to care for every animal and know all about them just remember because they work at a pet store does NOT mean they know what they are saying or doing I've had multiple pet stores try to sell me mice in place of rats and think that I couldn't tell the difference between the two and kept insisting they were rats and tried to over charge me for them and then I recently had a pet store try to sell me pinkies saying they were rat pups and you can clearly tell a significant difference between them just trying to give a warning cause when I first started getting fish and reptiles they all gave me bullshit info just so they could get rid of the animal so please research before you buy something not only from a pet store but anywhere so you'll know what your getting into beforehand #pets #pets #reptiles #snakes #ballpython #ballpythons #animal #animals #animalinfo #petinformation #petowners #petowner

The truth about Opossums

1. Natural immunity. Opossums are mostly immune to rabies, and in fact, they are eight times less likely to carry rabies compared to wild dogs.
2. Opossums are a natural source of pest control. If you hate snakes you should love opossums. They're actually immune to almost every type of snake venom making them an easy source of food.
3. They seem scary and mean, but in reality they are actually incredibly sweet and smart animals. Those kept as pets or those rescued show incredible amount of affection and intelligence.
So, before you throw rocks at me or call me mean, ugly, diseased, useless, remember you're the one that gave me these horrible reputations. I am different than I seem!
Thanks for reading🌼

So, you want a Newfie? Are you sure? Maybe you should read this first... Are you prepared for... 1. Their size? These adorable teddy bear puppies are quick to steal your heart, but these babies get to be 110 - 150lbs, sometimes bigger!
2. Feeding what seems like a literal bear? Obviously they eat more than a Pomeranian or a Chihuahua, but did you know an adult Newfoundland needs between 4 - 6 cups of food a day?
3. Large dog vet bills? It is very common for it to cost more to take a large dog to the vet. Medication, anesthesia, and vaccinations are all dosed and priced according to your dog's weight. You should also know a Newfies life span is rather short, only 8-10 years.
4. Shedding? Grooming is a MUST! Daily brushing and weekly baths will help keep the shedding down, but you're not going to get away from the fur completely.
5. At least 2 years of owning a puppy? Similar to Labs, Newfoundlands act like puppies for the first couple years of their lives and need constant reminders of their training. The good news is, they're very smart and learn quickly so training is usually pretty easy.
6. Are you okay with slobber? They drool!
7. The amount of exercise they need? Long walks, trips to the dog park, going for swims and lots and lots and lots of play time!
8. The cuddliest dog, ever? Newfies are big lovers and think they're lap dogs. They grow extremely attached to their humans and will want to be with you 24/7.
There are many people out there that will tell you Newfoundlands are the best breed of dog! This is true, they're great. Good with kids, loyal, funny and they have the biggest hearts!
Once a Newfie owner, always a Newfie owner!

Newfoundland are a great fit for a lot of families, but their size and grooming needs might not be the best for you.

Remember to do your research before bringing home any new animal friends!

Leopard Geckos are the most common lizard to own. Readily available in almost every city, they're an easy animal to get your hands on. This does not mean that Leopard Geckos are easy!
Here's the "need to knows" 🦎 If you read my Crested Geckos care sheet and think you're good to go with all small lizards, you're wrong! Leopard Geckos require a much different care system. 🦎 Leopard Geckos need a dry environment. The humidity should be kept below 50%. *One of their hides should be a humid hide. Spray this area down once a day to give them a place to shed.*
🦎 There needs to be a warm side of the tank. I don't recommend an over head heater. An over head heater with a basking spot can actually get too hot and burn your baby. The better alternative is an under tank heater. These reptiles are nocturnal, so they don't need a UVB light. 🦎 Bedding can be a number of different substrates. For young Geckos paper towels may be the safest bet. For older guys you can use reptile carpet, tiles or flat stones. Be careful with sand or other fine partial bedding. Your Leopard Gecko can easily ingest these things and they can become harmful. 🦎You can only have one Leo per tank. It's not safe to house 2 together.
🦎 Geckos need hiding places on both sides of the tank. They also should have a shallow water bowl that provides clean, purified water daily. 🦎 Live incest are a must. Crickets & Mealworms dusted in a multi-vitamin or vitamin D powder should be their main source of food, but they can have waxworms or super works as a treat! 🦎 A 20 Gallon tank will do just fine for a Leopard Gecko, you don't want to use too big of an enclosure or they may not get adequate use of the warm side of their tank.

Remember to do your research before bringing home any new animal friends.

The TRUTH about Betta Fish
1. Bettas don't live in tiny mud puddles. They need clean water and can't live in a small cup their entire life.
2. Bettas don't prefer small spaces, they actually can swim miles a day in the wild and you shouldnt put a Betta in a tank less than 2.5 Gallons.
3. Bettas need a LOW FLOW filter. Most people just put their fish in a bowl with some rocks and that's it. You should use a LOW FLOW filter for Bettas in order to help keep their water clean.
4. Betta Fish can't live in tap water. No fish can live in tap water. Use purified water with a few drops of water conditioner.
5. Betta Fish need to be fed a mixture of pellets and live/frozen food everyday or every other day.

Above are some examples of GOOD Betta Fish set ups!

These are only a few facts on Betta Fish that people simply don't know.

Savannah Monitor = a classic case of "What you buy vs what you end up with"

These lizards are sooooo cute at the pet store. Usually about 3-4 inches, average about $35 and are fairly friendly. They're sold around the world in pets stores. The issue comes when people don't understand what they're buying!
These tiny babies, grow to be 3 - 5 FEET! This is not a "tank pet". They can't live in a tank or a cage their entire life and they do require a lot of care.
So, before you swipe your card because you've fallen in love, be sure to do your research!! Thanks for reading!

So many people are fearful of snakes for plenty of reasons, but the vast majority are simply afraid due to the lack of knowledge and proper handling of snakes. They truly are beautiful creatures that require a great deal of respect, trust and the right handling. My Felix here is the perfect example of a docile snake. Being docile does not mean there isn't a risk of being bitten, but that I handle him the right way so that he is comfortable being held. With the right information and care, snakes make great additions to your pet family and I have thoroughly enjoyed my little boy 💚🐍

ZO 🐘🐘🐘
_____________

Zo or elephant are the largest land animals in the world and only one mammal can’t jump!
but they can swim!!
they use their trunk to breathe like a snorkel in deep water.

They're highly sensitive and caring animals, can feel emotional, cry, play, have incredible memories, and laugh..
(so cute and adorable..😆) Elephants have the longest pregnancy of all the animals. It takes a female 22 months from conception to give birth.

They have greeting ceremonies when a friend that has been away for some time returns to the group.

They're social creatures, sometimes “hug” by wrapping their trunks together in displays of greeting and affection.

So lovely animals 😊💕

KENAPA YA ULAR SELALU MENJULURKAN LIDAHNYA??
.
.
Pernahkah teman-teman melihat ular yang sedang merayap? Ketika berjalan, ular selalu menjulur-julurkan lidahnya yang bercabang dua. Kenapa ya kira2...??? 🙄
.
Begini nih penjelasannya.

CHEETAH 🐆🐆🐆
___________

Built for speed, cheetahs are slender, with long thin legs and a long tail.
Cheetah is the fastest land animal in the world, reaching speeds of up to 70 miles per hour. They can accelerate from 0 to 68 miles per hour in just three seconds. 💛
Cheetahs are the only big cat that can turn in mid-air while sprinting.

They have coarse, short fur that is yellowish tan in colour and covered in solid black spots.
Black tear-shaped streaks on the face help to reflect the sun when hunting.

Cheetahs are the only big cat that cannot roar. They can purr though and usually purr most loudly when they are grooming or sitting near other cheetahs.
Cheetahs cannot climb trees and have poor night vision.

Just 60% cheetah can survive until adults, when baby, they're like a big cat, they're can't have ability to protect their self from predator.

A pufferfish or fugu, first glance, they are slow moving, gentle, beautiful. But beware. When threatened, these fishes can transform themselves into weapons and turn into one of the deadliest creatures in the world 😱

One pufferfish contains enough toxin to kill 30 adult men.
They can be discretely or brightly colored. There is often relationship between the body coloration and the amount of toxin produced by the fish (brighter colors are often associated with large quantity of toxin in the fish)

When threatened, they can puff up to make themselves up to three times larger, they can take in so much air inside their stomachs that they bloat and turn into large, perfect balls. This makes them look harder to eat.

In Japan, pufferfish aren’t pets. They are a delicacy. A dish prepared from pufferfish is called fugu.
Only specially trained chiefs can clean the fish properly and prepare delicious and toxin-free meal. Just one wrong cut of the fish meat can result in the death of the customer.

Pufferfish have four teeth, two at the top and two at the bottom, so cute 😄

Now we shouldn't underestimate this animal, becasue pufferfish are among the most poisonous animals on earth and there are more than 100 species of the world.🌊🌎✨
F U G U 🐡🐡 _____________ A pufferfish or fugu, first glance, they are slow moving, gentle, beautiful. But beware. When threatened, these fishes can transform themselves into weapons and turn into one of the deadliest creatures in the world 😱 One pufferfish contains enough toxin to kill 30 adult men. They can be discretely or brightly colored. There is often relationship between the body coloration and the amount of toxin produced by the fish (brighter colors are often associated with large quantity of toxin in the fish) When threatened, they can puff up to make themselves up to three times larger, they can take in so much air inside their stomachs that they bloat and turn into large, perfect balls. Turtles have been alive for more than 200 million years. They have been alive longer than mammals, birds, crocodiles, snakes and lizards.

The shell of the turtle is what makes it unique. The top domed part of a turtle’s shell is called the carapase and the bottom underlying part is called the plastron.

Turtles can memorize they were first born and will re-incubate their eggs in the same place.

My childhood animal, super cute 😆💚💚

In Indonesia, we know a man who can't be loyal to a women is often referred to as a BUAYA DARAT (land crocodile)..hahaha

In the wild, crocodile is a loyal animal, they just marry one female.
A crocodiles will not search other female if the first females have died or been killed, so sweet.. 💕

In addition to their strong jaws, crocodiles also have very keen hearing.
It is so good, they can hear their babies calling from inside their egg.. 💕

Tako or octopus, like chimpanzees, dolphins and crows, octopus are among the special set of intelligent animals that have been observed using tools.
They learn easily, including learning by observation of another octopus.
They can solve problems too. amazing😍

Octopus have three hearts.
Two pump blood through each of the two gills, while the third pumps blood through the body. amazing 😍

Like a chameleon, octopus can change their skin color, but just three-tenths of a second.
Octopus can almost instantaneously match the colors, patterns, and even textures of its surroundings, like a ninja..hahaha😂

When discovered, an octopus will release a cloud of black ink to obscure its attacker’s view, giving it time to swim away.
The ink even contains a substance that dulls a predator’s sense of smell, making the fleeing octopus harder to track.
Fast swimmers, they can swim like a jet.

For all of their amazing abilities, octopuses have short lives that typically last only a few years. Some species drop dead after just six months.

I'm so amazed with this animal 😍💙💙
and i think octopus is a sensitive animal, they prefer to be alone than live in groups.

Every animal has a strong life, who strongest will be on the top, and the weakest will be died, that's about eat or eaten.
They must survive for their life, for their child and for keep their generation.

And this is POLAR BEAR, the world’s largest land predators, weighing up to 600 kg, up to 3 m tall. On average they live to be about 25 years old. ❄

The fact is, their skin is black!
cos the reflection and scattering of light they become white or yellow, polar bear can swimming too..haha so cute 😆

Polar bears are also equipped with strong noses, they can smell so far from their target, they are will wait patiently to get their target and can walk so far away to hunting their target

So cute animal but anytime they're can died because striving or drowning, tiredness swimming because the distance of the island still far away and also global warming..!

Clanger cuddles time! 😍
Clanger is a Madagascan common tenrec, she may look spiky but most of her spines are actually course hairs. If startled, she will jump back erecting her neck crest of spines. Common tenrecs are the largest land dwelling type of tenrec.

I'm going through an awkward phase 😰🐧 as penguins and other birds grow up they go through a stage called molting where they replace their feathers! In this case this little guy is replacing his juvenile feathers with his new adult feathers, hence his odd appearance #factoftheday #savingparadise

LONG time no post, but it was well worth it! I'm in the Galapagos Islands 😍 which were named for their giant tortoises seen in this picture; the old Spanish word galapago meant saddle, a term early explorers used for the tortoises due to the shape of their shells. 🐢
Although these giant tortoises used to roam the world sadly these guys are one of the last two remaining groups in the world, the other group living at the Aldabra Atoll in the Indian Ocean.

I spent a lot of time in the past working with big cats and I truly loved this experience. But I'm honestly shocked that I've found more and more zoos don't make the facts clear about white tigers! 🐅

White tigers are not a distinct species or sub-species that are seperate from orange Siberian or Bengal tigers. Their coloration is due to a recessive trait found in homozygous individuals of the aforementioned species which resulted from a mutation of a protein in charge of melanism (coloration). In order to produce other white tigers, inbreeding is utilized to perpetuate this trait. But not only is this trait unnatural in the wild, it like many other recessive traits is accompanied by a wealth of health problems. Due to this many white tiger cubs are stillborn and even more will not survive to adulthood. Although Jellybean here is clearly gorgeous, is it worth breeding these animals and perpetuating suffering? I personally think not.

Red Wolf.
Canis rufus

By the 1970s, red wolves were believed to be extinct in the wild chiefly due to persecution by humans. Reintroduced in 1987 to North Carolina they now have a population of over 200. They hunt animals such as deer, rabbits and raccoons and live in packs with a social organization similar to the grey wolf. The coat is tawny-cinnamon mixed with grey and black, and is darkest on the back.
Length: 3 1/4 - 4 ft.
Weight: 40 - 90 pounds.
Status: Critically Endangered.

Hey guys, I had a QA ( #livingwithyuna ) a while ago, but I did not had the time to awnser some of your questions yet.... I hope in this post I'll awnser a couple!
foxes are not for everyone. They are extremely hard to care for. Make sure that it is the right pet for you. You can't keep them in an apartment you can't keep them indoors only, you need to own a lot of space and live around a lot of nature like woods or countryside, they need a huge outdoor enclosure/pen, and if you want to take one I recommend to take two at the same time so that when you are off to work they are not alone in their enclosure and have someone to play with during the night. They hide their food everywhere so also underneath your pillow or in your shoes. They destroy everything they want. They never get 100% potty traind. Will urine mark everything that they call theirs and they pee out of excitement. Their urine has a skunky musky smell everything in the house will smell like fox.... you will hear it from your friends that you smell like fox. this foxes like Yuna don't exist in the wild, they are bred by the fur industry today ther exist 90+ colprs bred for fur we call them silverfoxes. So if you want a fox you can try to contact a fur farm and ask them if you can buy two of their baby foxes so you can save their lives. Some people also breed foxes and sell their kits.... than you have to look for exotic animal breeders.
Make sure to visit someone who owns a fox before you buy one this is very important!

Himalayan Marmots

Himalayan marmots are found most often between timberline and snowline, at elevations of 3,500 to 5,200 m. Temperatures in these areas typically range from 8 C to 12 C. Himalayan marmots occur primarily in dry, open habitats, including alpine meadows, grasslands, and deserts. Much of their habitat falls within the Northwestern Himalayan alpine shrub and meadows ecoregion. Vegetation in this ecoregion is dominated by stunted evergreen shrubs and birch-dominated forest patches. At higher elevations, this shrub-dominated community shifts to open alpine meadows. This ecoregion is largely protected due to the presence of critically endangered snow leopard . Like other marmots, Himalayan marmots dig large burrows, which generally restricts them to areas with light-textured and adequately deep soil. The burrows of Himalayan marmots are exceptionally deep, typically ranging from 2.0 to 3.5 m.
