Bayon temple, favourite of the three.
At the heart of Angkor Thom is the 12th-century Bayon, the mesmerising, if slightly mind-bending, state temple of Jayavarman VII. It epitomises the creative genius and inflated ego of Cambodia’s most celebrated king. Its 54 Gothic towers are decorated with 216 gargantuan smiling faces of Avalokiteshvara, and it is adorned with 1.2km of extraordinary bas-reliefs incorporating more than 11,000 figures. This morning we woke up at 4:30am to witness the Sunrise in Angkor Wat temple. An unique unforgettable experience 😭🙏🇰🇭
It might be hard to wake up that early and unfortunately the sunrise is one of the busiest times there HOWEVER sit down next to one of the lakes and see the sun rising. While most people will go for breakfast shortly after we decided to hit the temple entrance and were one of the first ones to step inside! Follow the sun and run to the back and you’ll be able to explore this massive ancient temple by yourself as most people will be in the front.
Get ready to spend at least 2 hours there.. YES this is how big it its but definitely something you need to explore! Have you ticked this off your bucket list?! Because we just did!
