picked up this lil fella the other day + i’m super stoked because it was Kodak’s first camera built in the US that used 35mm film! Kodak invented 35mm film so being able to own + shoot with one of their early 35mm cameras is super cool. this one’s called the Kodak 35 + it was originally released in 1939, with a few different models being made before it was discontinued in 1950. this particular model was sold for about $24.50 in 1939 which would be around $420 in 2018 money.. so it was fairly affordable for the time! i’m finishing up a test roll on it today, so please feel free to follow my film account @analoghippy if you’re curious on what the photos will look like! ilusm + i hope you all have a wonderful weekend + also thanks for reading this far 💝🎞
about a year and a half ago i started to only (almost - 66/69 posts) post film images, no digital. not beacuse i am some fanatic that thinks film is so much better than digital - because to be honest - with a modern digital camera and lenses you simply blow film cameras and old lenses out of the water (regardless of "character") - but because i noticed a need to slow down. put a digital camera in my hands and i will use all the tricks it allows to do all the incredible things i can not do with film (and to the naysaysers there are a hell of a lot of things you cant do with film - just think about the need for an FFL filter if your shooting daylight film inside with tungsten lights to mention one "small" point) and i will "pray and spray" with the best of them. does that make me a better photographer - i think not. do i get some good photos? yes. i got my first kodak 126 film camera (the ones where when you developed the film you got a free roll back with the pictures) when i was 11. that was almost 50 years ago. i photographed most of the photos for the last two years of our high school yearbook and developed and printed them myself so although i am no master i do know a bit about getting a good print - and i know that digital spoiled me and made me forget a lot i had spent years learning. thats why i went back to film. and thats why now i am going one step further. i have posted a lot of crap in the years i have been on instagram - just to post, to share, to have that instant gratification we all so desperately need (whether we admit it or not) - so now i take the next step. if it isnt worth printing and hanging on my wall (or giving to someone to hang on their wall) then it isnt worth sharing. so from now on i will only post what i think worthy to print (of course a lot of that might be crap too - but at least i was prepared to spend the money on paper and ink to print it). i hope this hasnt been too rambling and that a few of the poeple who read this understand where it is coming from. with each print i will give as much infomration on camera, film, scan technique and print that i can. (all in the first comment as instagram doesnt let me add much more. :) )
