Pulling out my best impression from the movie Say Anything. 😎 lol trying to photograph a sleeping anaconda off the Pantanal, Brazil. Not a super crisp image, but it brought me back to that moment. The currents were so strong right where I was that I could only hover for a second or two, until I was pulled away by the flow of the water. Then I would swim to the other side of the river and pull myself back to where I was and try to do it again. What a kick ass place, Brazil is for wildlife. So much cool sh*t to photograph. Can’t wait to go back in 2019. #anacondas#greenanacondas#wildlifeexpeditions#wildlifephotography#sdmadventures#brazilwildlife#dreamtrip

Last week I walked through our fantastic forest and saw this huge anaconda (eunectes murinus)! It's so great to stand with such a rare and mystic animal face by face. Great moment! Normally anacondas are round about 3,50 metres long, but this snake was over 6 metres long! It was the longest snake I ever saw. It's true! All of you know it!
Look at the yellow shining eyes. Wow it's incredible! You feel the power of this silent and merciless hunter. Luckily the snake only ate an apple, so i disappeared in the woods. Magic moment!
Hoy es el #diamundialdelosanimales !!!! .

There is a reason big fish, and big crocs, and snakes for that matter too, live to see old age: they are shrewd. A few years ago my team and I caught the world record for longest live, verifiably measured wild anaconda. We named her Eleanor after my grandmother. She was resting on floating vegetation in the warm morning sun. The giant anacondas love the floating grasses because if any threat comes, they can dive under immediately. From the tip of a large canoe I saw her, and she saw me, and immediately started going down. Clever girl. When I splashed into the swamp to where she was and wrapped my arms around her it was with the full knowledge that this nearly twenty-foot snake was in full control. She weighed more, was stronger, could swim better, and had dozens of re-curved teeth to use in her defense. The team of 8 researchers with me jumped in too and all of them tried to grab parts of her, but there was nothing to stand on - the water was 20 plus feet deep. We held onto her tail as she thrashed around, and for a moment coils as thick as any of us were emerging and splashing everywhere. It was like fighting the Cracken. When I got control of her head I lost control of everything else, I could no longer swim and could no longer protect from her coils. It was the rest of the team that kept me afloat, and hauled me – and the snake - up onto the boat so that we could measure her and collect data, the first information gathered on green anacondas in the Peruvian Amazon. You can’t tranquilize an anaconda, so for now studying them has to be done the old-school way. Thankfully, not all of them are that hard - or dangerous - to catch, like this small 6 foot female we found on the edge of stream in a swamp. Doesn’t matter how small or large the snake is though, each anaconda I work with I consider the privilege of a lifetime.

Did you know that the green anaconda is the longest snake in the world?
This animal is the largest existing snake (ofide), with a weight that can exceed 200 kg and a body circumference of over 30 cm. Despite this does not hold the record length, in fact the reticulated Python, although less heavy and heavy, can reach 9.5 meters maximum length, surclassing, then, the "barely" 8 meters maximum of the green anaconda (average adult specimens arrive at 6 meters). To attack the prey it coils to them and suffocates them, so to then be able to eat them, using the same tactics of the pythons.
Anacondas are constricting snakes, that is, they do not have poison but they suffocate the prey. They hunt prey of size between those of a mouse and those of a black caiman, but their favorite prey remains the capybara
Despite the considerable size, these animals move rather smoothly through the water, where they spend most of their lives. Thanks to the position of the eyes and nostrils on the tip of the snout they can see and breathe when submerged in water and tend to ambush their prey.
