We are in love with Stink Beans. They add such a crunch and flavor to a stir fry.
Goong Phat Sa-dtor.
Delicious mouthfuls... Is this one of your favorite ways to eat Stink Beans?
Kam Koohn, the baby elephant + Willow, my baby girl. Both 11yo in the photo. When the grasslands are flooded in the summer, this is bathtime!✨ I have countless other photos of elephants but for #PPEco @passionpassport I wanted to share this specific photo of two beautiful creatures, each with extraordinary hearts, incredible intelligence and significant familial bonds, but with very different upbringings.
Kam Koohn was rescued by the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation (GTAEF) and @anantara_goldentriangle 3 years ago when she was 8yrs old. Her situation was dire, and the chain marks on her ankles, which will never fade, are the physical markings of her terrible youth. But now, she is happy, she is free, and she is loved immensely by her Mahout Family, the scientists at GTAEF, and her best elephant friend 7yr old Ying Luk. 〰️〰️〰️
Though there are 55 Elephant Camps in Thailand, only a select few are the Gold Standard. #GTAEF is one of the world's leading non-profit education and conservation foundations. We were there for a week learning about, and spending hours every day with these incredibly intelligent gentle Giants. 〰️〰️〰️
There are 22 elephants here, and all are rescue elephants. Some from Elephant Dancing Shows and most are from the streets. (when Thailand banned logging 25+ years ago, 4,000 elephants and their Mahouts -human caretakers- became unemployed. Elephants and their Mahouts are family, and for most it's a multi- generation lifestyle...and you don't leave your family; a huge majority of these elephants and their caretakers took to the busy streets of Bangkok, etc to make $ to feed their elephants, and their human families) 〰️〰️〰️
The GTAEF provides the Elephants, and their entire Mahout family, housing, meals and mandatory schooling for the children (in hopes to break the cycle of Elephant ownership). 〰️〰️〰️
Each night the elephants sleep in the jungle😊. The resort, nor the GTAEF, buy or sell the elephants...they belong to the Mahouts and their families. And it's eco-tourists that assist in the support of the Foundation and these beautiful intelligent gentle giants and their families.🐘❤️
I’ve been to Ko Samui 3 times but by far the coolest way to see this part of Thailand is on a Sailboat with @aelloyachtingsamui If you’re planning a trip here then you have to go on a real sailing adventure. It was the highlight of our 4 weeks in Southeast Asia! We sailed from Ko Samui to a unique beach on Ko Phangnan that’s only accessible by boat. Bottle Beach is seriously a slice of paradise!
Sometimes the simple things in life are the best.
